I have read (I dont remember where though) that SMG and Nicholas Brendon approached Joss Whedon early in season 7 about making Buffy and Xander a couple. Would you have liked (or shipped) this romance?

All I can think of at this point is basically incest. I view Buffy/Xander/Willow as almost sisters/brother. I don't want any of them to hook up with each other.

I don't see it as incest,i mean a lot of couples start as "just friends"
Probably not- I mean, I really love Xander together with Anya, to me they are utterly perfect. That said, however, the Xuffy ship had the possibility of acting as a 'connection' between Buffy and everyone else, if that makes sense.

I do agree with Blaze in that it is well, kinda does feel like incest. Xander is such a brother figure in Buffy's life (and vise- versa), that yeah, you won't see me being ethusastic about it, but I guess I'm not exactly completely anti the idea of Xander and Buffy together.

No, not during season 7, they had both came so far by then, that it would have felt weird for Xander to go back to season 1 with his feelings

I think it would have been nice in season 7, I voted no, but I mean no overall, but if it was just in season 7 I wouldn't have minded.

Would have done away with the Spike crap nicely, and I liked seeing them acting like a family at the start of season 7 with Xander taking Dawn to school and stuff.

Yeah, sure, why not? Buffy desperately needed a love interest in season 7, Xander seems like a good enough choice to me. Actually, it kinda annoys me that this is something left completely unexplored in season 7, even as a possibility. I mean, they are both young, attractive, lonely. I'm not saying that they should tear each other's clothes off just because and proceed to have passionate sex or anything but has it really never crossed their minds, even in a joking manner? Come on, aside Dawn, these two don't have anybody else in their lives post season 6 finale, we don't even see just them share a drink or talk about life and shit. I think it's kinda weird.

When it comes to this pairing in general, I'm not some crazy supporter but I don't mind it either. It's all about the story to me and I think that those characters have qualities that when collided could result in an interesting relationship. For one, they really know and get each other very well. Xander is a rather caring person and he has this awesome ability to instantly detonate Buffy's insecurities and make her feel good about herself, it's a good thing to have, also, he knows how to piss her off just enough to make her open up and besides that, if there's one human in all the world that could survive dating Buffy then it has to be Alexander Lavelle Harris. Seriously, in my opinion Buffy needs somebody who doesn't care that she's the slayer and Xander kinda develops into such a person throughout the show. And Buffy, well when Buffy's in love she's really in love, loyal to a fault, no matter how much you screw up and Xander kinda screws up a lot. Xander leaves Buffy at the altar, you bet they'll be having make up sex and laughing about it 48 hours later. What I'm saying is, they would be able to sort out and patch each other in a relationship.

And I sound like some Buffy/Xander shipper, don't I? Bloody hell.

Yeah, it's some rather in your face stuff, kinda like Willow/Tara in relation to Dawn.

Great analysis
I'm not a big shipper of Xuffy or anything, just thought it would be a great story for the series ender. The girl who rejected Xander now loves him,it would be full circle,i dont know,i just kind of like that story. 😛

Didn't you learn from BtVS that spells are dangerous!! :p
I would have loved to see Xander and Buffy together. I agree that the start of Season 7 definitely made me feel like it was coming, but then Spike came back. :/ I think by Season 7, both Buffy and Xander had grown so much and it would have been a beautiful pairing.

I would have liked to see them together. Whether it would have taken place in S7 or beyond, just a short thing or a more long-lasting romantic relationship, I think it could have worked. I was into the teasing of it in S8, even though it didn't go anywhere.

Ideally, the beginning of S7 would have worked best for me.

I've been thinking about it and I've sort of changed my mind. As much as I dislike the idea of any Scoobie dating (that hasn't changed), it could have been a good storyline, but in my mind it only works if Anya and Spike aren't there. Plus because both Xander and Buffy are so important, if it were gonna happen I'd hope that they spend a lot of time developing the relationship (and Willow's reaction), meaning that they'd have to remove a lot of time spent on other character, which might actually have been beneficial in s7. Done correctly, this might have made s7 better in it's whole, even if I dislike the idea of Xuffy.

I put a spell on you, thats why you changed your mind :D
Nick Brendon said a few years ago that he and SMG were playing the beginning of S6 as though Buffy/Xander was going to happen. He said it just made sense to them that that was where the show was going to go with their relationship. It wasn't until they'd filmed the first few eps that they realized that they were wrong and had to pull back on the 'couple' aspect of their relationship.

Personally, I never wanted it to happen. It just doesn't seem natural to me, especially considering what we know now. I shipped Xander/Dawn from 'Potential', so I was happy with what happened there.

Yes, a part of Xander might always have something for Buffy, but at the same time, for him to actually want to start a relationship with Buffy would feel like Xander would be taking a HUGE step backwards to me.

I'm happy where everyone is now, I don't want Buffy to be with ANYONE any time soon.

I'm one of the people who see Buffy and Xander together as almost incest, and that has been nothing to do with my support of Spuffy. Buffy and Xander is, to me, just one step away from suggesting Buffy and Giles. I just can't see any way that it could work.

Agree!
Just wanted to say that this ship usually goes as Bander, I think. 😉 And I kind of spotted Dawn/Xander vibe as far back as S6, when Xan-man pointed in general direction of behind himself and proclaimed 'I am going to marry that girl!' then turned around and noticed he was pointing at Dawn, not Anya. I immediately assumed it was a foreshadowing, and indeed it was.

I gotta admit,I find this quite surprising. I didn't think so many would be against it lol. I don't mind it at all,i just didn't expect it. 😛

God, no.

I was proud of Xander when he turned Buffy down when she came on to him. Xander and Buffy have an incredible friendship. I'd hate to see that ruined. Let's face it, Buffy's relationships don't end well. She's a romantic train wreak. But honestly, their relationship has been damaged so severely, perhaps beyond repair...maybe it wouldn't even matter if they dated? It'd be in bad taste, since het sister is/was with him.

I would have looooved to have seen Bander in S7. Those first few episodes with Buffy and Xander as parental figures to Dawn were lovely. I think by that time both of them reached the right level of maturity to be a couple - IMO it wouldn't have worked in the early seasons.

The fact that Buffy has a male friend her own age that she is not romantically involved with is a positive, good thing! It makes their friendship unique, I like the fact Xander (eventually) got over her.

Maybe some other character can learn a thing or two...😀

I think Xander is beyond the feelings he had in the early seasons and I don't think Buffy ever really meshed with the idea of having feelings for them. I honestly don't think they would be able to look at each other that way and have that kind of passion for one another. Their friendship is untouchable and amazing but that's what it is--- and I definitely feel like it's more valuable and more beautiful than a romantic relationship between them would be, quite like Willow and Xander.

I don't think I could get behind a romantic relationship between Buffy and Xander. I really liked the idea of Xander getting over his feelings for Buffy and the two of them forming a strong relationship that isn't based or leads to romantic/sexual feelings. It is quite rare for TV (and movies too) and I think it is good to show a positive male/female relationship like that. I wish it would happen more often.
