YA Reader?

Are any of you YA(young adult) book readers? I love to read..it like second on the list of things i love to do(1st is watching Buffy). I mainly read Supernatural/Paranormal Young adult (YA) books. Most of them have a good romance in them somewhere haha. Anyways are there any YA books or books period that you really love? id like to know so maybe can read them too.

I started to get into the House of Night series, but the library didn't have the next one so I haven't read it in a while.

I love anything and everything my Francesca Lia Block. But she's not for everyone. But they are very often reminiscent of fairy tales and myhtology.

One I read that I really enjoyed was called "Keturah and Lord Death." by Martine Leavitt. I really like the fairly tale like quality to this one I did like the love story quite a bit.

My favorite book of all time "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak is categorized as YA in America but adult in other countries. It's not as romancey though.

Hmm. Love the Princess Diaries too. 🙂 The main character is almost as much of a geek as I am.

and Skulduggery Pleasant.

I read a lot of YA novels. I started with Gossip Girl or something I don't remember long time ago. I read a lot of the supernatural vampire ones now but I still read the normal ones. Some of those were/are Gingerbread, Shrimp and Cupcake. I also liked the novels The Boyfriend list and Guyaholic. I read most books by the same authors or series. So like the books I listed I will go and look for more and stuff like that.
I think the first series though that I bought a lot of was The-A-List besides for Junie B Jones when I was younger 😛

Overall I read anything that has my interest. If it sounds interesting I say okay I will read this.

I don't read much of anything anymore. 🙁 I love to read, but unfortunately I just don't have the time to read for pleasure.

I was a total YA reader. I liked the horror stuff and I did read a lot of Buffy novels.

Fear Street was my favorite. I read some Christopher Pike though I never took to them as much, they seemed a bit too old for me at the time I chose to read them. I still glance at the section when I'm at the store just cause it's habitual and I'm curious!

I'll read a YA book if it's been recommended to me, but it's no longer my go-to section of the 'bookstore' (I say it in inverted quotes because I now read on a Kindle).

I read The Hunger Games earlier this year, which I really enjoyed, and I Am Number Four, which I did not (pile of poorly written rubbish).

I'm not sure how many of these strictly qualify as Young Adult, but I have enjoyed:

The Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling

The His Dark Materials trilogy by Phillip Pullman

The Haruhi Suzumiya series by Nagaru Tanigawa

I used to read a ton of YA novels, then I stopped. I loved all of Meg Cabot's books, my favorite being the Princess Diaries series. I am basically a combination of Mia and Lilly from those books. 😀

I'm starting to get back into YA novels now cause I realized I've been missing out on a lot of great stuff, thanks for the reading suggestions! 🙂

My favorite YA author is Sarah Dessen. I adore her so much, it's freaking crazy. Just Listen and Lock and Key changed my life.

Have you read any of the Kelley Armstrong books? Her stories are good.
She was once the New York Times No:1 bestseller. She also wrote in the Angel comics. On her site, for writers, many of the people there have blogs and some of then write YA stuff and they recommend other people.

I'm not suggesting you go there instead of here, but going to both sites isn't a problem. I've been going there for a while now.

I'd like to re-mention The Hunger Games and Vampire Academy. Also, if you watch Vampire Diaries then you should read the books. Theyre totally different but worth the read.

Nope. I'm a YA who doesn't read YA books, I guess. (I have read things like HP, but I finished the series when I was 11... I haven't really read any similar books since then.)

Unfortunately, Most all books aimed at my age group has some sort of romance, or in recent times, Vampires. There just isn't enough variety, and too many predictable plots.

Apart from Harry Potter (which I think are EVERYONE novels, not Young Adult novels) the only other YA stuff I lave read is the Kevin and Sadie series by Joan Lingard. I read them as teenager and they were about a Protestant girl and a Catholic boy falling in love with each other at the height of the Northern Irish Troubles. They were actually amazing books. I must see if I still have them in my attic.

I used to enjoy YA books, they made a nice balance to my usual reading materials which are often quite heavy or stuffy, but then on a whim I picked up a "House of night" book and it was so horribly written that I couldn't even finish it (I can barely remember the story but the writing was just... ridiculously amateurish and irritating) and ever since I've been shying away from YA books.

But after reading a series of religious books (and with some years of distance to the House of Night horror) I now feel like I could use something more 'light' and I'm curious to give the Vampire Diaries a try. 🙂
