Two words: Bram Stoker.

Dracula was really the book that got me into vamps and stuff when I was a kid (and later on Anne Rice), of course I suppose you could also count the almighty "Count" from the Muppets 🙂 My favorite.

Though I've never only been drawn to only vampires, I've always supernatural and horror themes in general so Buffy was a perfect fit for me when it came around.

Not particularly. I read the Twilight books before I watched Buffy, but I didn't really like them and those were definitely not real vampires. 😉 I can't think of any other vampires that I'm familiar with, since I don't watch True Blood and i've never read any Anne Rice-ish novels. I've always liked supernatural elements though.

I'm surprised to see that so many people actually don't like vampires!

When I was young, I really loved a cartoon called Mona the vampire, it was the story of a girl who imagined adventures with her friends, and in those adventure she was a vampire. It was cute. At that time, I also liked a lot Dracula wants to die with Leslie Nielsen, it was my favourite movie.

Then I fell in love with Buffy, but not really for the vampires, because they are really not the center of the show (even tough the show has 'vampire' in his title).
Then I had to read a book for class from Annette Klaus Curtis, which was about vampires too, and I really loved the story. Don't know what the title is in English, I think it was something like "Silver Kiss" (The solitude of the bloodsucker in French). And we had a few classes on vampires (how did the myth appear, vampires in litterature...) and I loved this classes so much, because I felt like a Slayer learning all those stuff 😀
I absolutely loved the movie "Interview with a vampire".
Then I read Twilight and loved it (not so much of a fan now).
I also read the first tome of the Vampires Diaries and loved it.
I read the first tome of the Vampire of Manathan (this time because it was about vampires) and didn't like it.
True Blood and Vampires Diaries are in my "to watch" list.

Thing is, I never felt like I loved those stories because they were about vampires. Might have been with ghouls or werewolves and I would probably have liked it too, I guess. I just always loved gloomy stories with magical creatures, and stories with vampires are often, I don't know, kinda awesome/epic. Plus, vampires are the sexiest stories.
I guess I'm in the vampire lovers 😛

I love vampires, and always have enjoyed the various mythologies surrounding them, wayy before I watched Buffy -- so, they were a drawcard, but obviously a show/movie/book needs to rest on more than just a cool premise; Buffy/Angel goes above and beyond in the character development & comedy stakes xD

~I've always loved Bela Lugosi's turn as Dracula...as you can probably tell from my sig -- what a devilish charmer of a man! xD
~Bram Stoker's original novel is one of my all-time favourite books, I own at least two copies of it.
~I also have an unhealthy appreciated for Coppola's Dracula, despite a lot of garish weirdness, and, oh, Gary Oldman...omnomnom xD
~I love the Interview with the Vampire movie -- I've been meaning to get my hands on the books, though! I enjoyed it as a rather emotive story, and again, all the delicious men, especially Antonio Banderas and Tom Cruise...who'd've guessed they'd make such gorgeous vampires? ^^

(Oh, and I hate Twilight -- I've read all the books, and seen the first movie...I want those hours of my life back...!)

I have always found the super natural interesting and have been into it, so I have always found vampires interesting. I think that BtVS did increase my interest in vampires a lot. The way vampires are shown is how I have always seen vampires even before I have watched Buffy.

I have seen and read many other forms of vampires and I like BtVS's verison the best. Even when I was a Twilight fan (I know shame on me....) I thought sparkleing vampires was not believable.

I think there's a parallel between vampires and addicts that I find interesting... they are pure representation of addiction...

so, that's my intellectual side, emotionally, there's just something sexy about the whole concept (which might make me seem weird)

But, in any case, buffy is my absolute favorite vampire world

Do you find yourself taking more interest in vampires in general because of Buffy? Or have you always liked vampires, even before Buffy? Do you watch vampire shows and movies because of Buffy?

No, I wouldn't say I am. Something that really bugs me is that after people hear that I'm into Buffy, they ask me if I'm "into vampires" - insinuating that I'm some kind of vampire groupie fangirl. Actually, I'm not particularily into vampire stuff. I mean, I've read Anne Rice's books, and I watch True Blood (who doesn't?) but I didn't find Buffy through an interest in vampires. The thing I like so much about True Blood is that it doesn't romanticise vampires.

I just think of Buffy as a great show that happens to have vampires in it. It's not even about vampires, really - it's about the emotional lives of people.

Ever since I saw a ghost some 46 years ago I became interested, that led to witchcraft, the occult and demonolgy including the vampire thing. Then came the folklore, mythology and the Sci-fi.
In BTVS I was mainly interested in Willow's experiences, I saw the 1st season DVD of True Blood, I thought that was crap and didn't bother with any more. The best laugh was with the film Lesbian Vampire Killers.
As for werewolves, the Oz werewolf has to be the worst ever and not a patch on the Underworld look.

Been watching classic vampire movies from way too young an age, and actually get taken for a vampire (or someone from Harry Potter 😛) a lot... so it's certainly not just Buffy for me.

Recently, I've been getting a tad bored with vampires though. Seems to have got overdone to the point of can't-be-much-bothered-with-it-anymore lately. *cough*Twilight*cough*

I'm a Horror fan. I like Monsters and that stuff in general and I like Vampires.
But more the old ones like Dracula or Nosferatu. (so no Twilight)

I didn't watch BtVS because of the Vampires. I was curious what it was about.
I couldn't really picture a show about a Vampire Slayer. When I first watched it, I didn't have any idea what to expect.
The show didn't make me watch more vampire shows or movies.
When I hear "vampire" I think "Cool! Vampires! Buffy!"

I've never had much interest in vampires. Never thought I'd watch Buffy in a million years, let alone be this obsessed with the show. Nicholas Brendon and Xander's character were the only reason I watched a few scenes and then read fanfics. Spander fanfics made me watch the show.

That's why I don't really care about new vampire TV shows and movies.

Buffy originally attracted me because of it's characters rather than it's vampires. I didn't tune in to watch 'em get dusted or see their distorted vamp faces and yellow eyes. It was the characters that got me. But the dynamic of the human and supernatural worlds being just peripheral to each other was so intriguing, I kept watching. I read the Twilight series, I loved Interview With the Vampire (Ann Rice is FAR superior), and still watch my recorded mini-series of Salem's Lot with Rob Lowe when I get the urge. Vampires are interesting to me, but it's the characters behind them that I truly am drawn to.

Buffy is greatly to thank for my introduction to the world of vampires. I had heard of them before and caught glimpse of movie but I never thought much of the creatures of the night. Which is weird cause since I could watch tv I love all things SCARY. I am a horror freak here for sure. That is why I check Buffy out. The first episode I watched was Bewitched, Bothered, & Bewirled. I fell in love at first sight. The dialouge, plotys, characters, all of it was AMAZING! I say Buffy is to thank for my vampire craze because it was cause of that show I gave ones like moonlight, and vampire diaries a shot. Which i love both now 🙂
Vampire Diaries is my #2 show right behind Buffy 🙂

I liked *some* vampire movies before Buffy, but BtVS got me really hooked on vampires, especially because of the way the show depicted vampires. Of course, specifically, Angel, SPIKE (love him!!!) Dru and Darla.

Now I'm hooked on Vampire Diaries and True Blood. But I couldn't care less for "Twilight" ... sparkly vampires, PUH-LEEZE!!! 😀

Oh, I'm totally remembering that I adored The Lost Boys back in high school! So maybe I did enjoy vampires from early on LOL. I know they've done 2 sequels although I've heard they're bad, but my sister & I have vowed to have a mini-marathon and watch all 3. It seems that the Lost Boys was the movie that updated vampires for younger people, what with the hip young actors and cool music (I had the album, yeah, vinyl). I mean, I can't hear "Cry Little Sister" without thinking of the movie:

ITA! What's more for me is that a lot of vampire stories (Twilight, Vampire Diaries) are teen stories. And there are not a lot of teen movies/TV shows that I'm interested in these days besides Buffy (which I think transcends age groups) and Glee (and I'm always more interested in the teachers' storylines than the teens LOL- that's because I work in education!).
