Do you think Whedon will ever return to the tv format for story telling, I personally believe this is where he was best.... what do you guys think?

He recently co-wrote an episode and, predicably, it was briliant. Deftly turning the origins of Hydra on its head, making it much cooler/more dangerous/older.

By way of consulting, executive producing, and occasionally writing or directing an episode of some series or other, even creating and setting up a new series, almost certainly, he will return to television. Almost certainly, however, anything as time consuming as running a series the way that he did "Buffy," "Angel," or "Firefly," not a chance, especially considering his success record with the two Avengers movies. The big screen is going to be his primary work area for quite awhile to come.

I don't know how comic-adapted series work, but... do the writers like Joss have that much freedom in creating such major plots? Are they pre-determined by the original comics?

I'm not that familiar with Hydra in the comics but as I understand it they were alway more into magic/occult than alien tech/lost knowledge. Also their origins seem to be a lot older on the show, more than just 'modern dasy Nazi's'.
Obviously the movie/tv-verse has to deviate from the comics somewhat. Tony Stark creates Ultron, not Hank Pym, Thor's an alien, not a 'God', Falcon is actually cool, that type of thing.

So I'm guessing Joss and everyone at marvel worked it out- maybe they gave him the specs and then he wrote how the revelation would come about inthe story. I could buy that, since Joss has a history as a script doctor- modifying existing works- and would/should be able to work around such plot constraints.
