Your BB experience: When you first joined

So, lately I've been looking back at my old posts and thoughts when I FIRST joined BB (back in '08, I believe) and going WOW, was that really me? (And not in a good way, lol)

As well as looking back at the very first people who welcomed me at BB, and smiling about how much as changed in those few years. 🙂

So basically I'm just wondering what stories you guys have to tell about your experiences when you first came here. 😀

Some questions to answer, but feel free to add your own...

1. Why did you join BB?

As for myself...

1. I joined BB because I loved Btvs, obviously. 😛
2. Yup, I considered MANY, but this one was the very best. 🙂
3. Hm, I really don't know, but I had a lot of fun debating with people like Tajana and Flanny at my old Buffy and Angel: The Age Difference? thread. 😀
4. Lol, something that has always bothered me was that when I first joined I made a thread in the "Newbie" area, you guys all welcomed me, but I never posted in the thread again to thank you guys for the welcome... I dunno, but it really irritates me, I always feel so rude when I'm looking back at the thread. 😀
5. I thought that everyone was really nice, WAY smarter than me 😉, and that the site was really big. Granted, my "mother site" (the first forum I ever joined) was MUCH bigger than this one, but I still felt pretty overwhelmed for a while. I probably should've gotten adopted, but I was too lost to understand HOW to get adopted! 😀
6. I guess I love BB a lot more now than I did before. See, for me, BB is really similar to a close-knit school. We have around 1,000 kids, teachers (the mods), principals (administrators), a Code of Conduct (FAQ), cliques, and all that good stuff, but overall most of us know and like each other. 🙂 Either way, I suppose I have much greater feeling of "belonging" here, lol, I guess you just fit in more the longer you stay here. 😀
7. My answer to #6 pretty much also answers #7. 🙂
8. Well, as most of you know, I stuck around (when I first joined) for like a week, then left for over a year. Then came back for good. 😀 I think that that's because when I first joined Btvs was more of a fad/obsession for me, but when I joined again I had really fallen in love with Ats/Btvs, and it became a regular and integral part of my life. 🙂

1. Why did you join BB?
I was rewatching Buffy and Angel, well I was almost finished, and thought it would be interesting to see what others had to say. And maybe post a few (and I mean few) things myself.

2. Did you look at/join any other Btvs/Ats site first?
First a swedish one. Even if it was still active it felt like it was a close group of people so it would be hard to break into that and it was so few people that you'd stand out more and I prefer to keep to the background. So I thought it would be better to join a more worldwide board. Went looking on a few and decided to go with the one that attracted me the most. Which was obviously bb. I'm so shallow. 😀

3. Your best BB moment?
Not sure I have a best moment. But feeling so at home so quickly was great.

4. Your worst BB moment?
All the trouble some time ago. Don't want to go into that again but everyone that was a member at the time know what I'm talking about. Seeing people behave the way they did hurt on so many levels. On both sides and I wasn't completely innocent myself. I see back on it with shame. On a personal level it was the beginning of the end of a lot of truly wonderful relationships.

5. Your first impression of BB?
That people was way more friendly than I had expected. And it was so easy becoming active. And I thought I was just gonna be lurking.

6. Your impression of BB now?
It's still great. Not as wonderful as it was during my first year but way better than during my second. As I see it we're still rebuilding.

7. How has your perception of BB changed since you've joined?
Not as a whole. We've had our ups and downs but the main thing still stands. Lots of great people in all ages from all over the world to discuss some shows that ended a long time ago with. And not only that. You get great online friendships with people you can count on if you need them.

8. Anything else?
Bangelxx and Joyce Summers which I both love for different reasons (and one I could easily have as an online crush on) made me want to be sorted into Drogyn. We're all fools at some point. 😀 One of my first memories was thinking that ~angelic slayer~, as she was known at the time (I hope), must be one of the most amazing people I've ever had the privilage to meet, online or in real life. And that still stands. Such an amazing young (to my surprise) woman.

1. Why did you join BB?

:blush:...Um, I kinda got booted from this other Btvs forum I was on. Ok, I know, I suck! but I was new to the net and had no idea about forum etiquette or anthing like that...stop looking at me like that...I've reformed! See! 😛

So anyway, after that fail fest I was looking for a new place to hang my Buffyverse tin hat and it literally took me 6 months to find BB. I joined, and well you all know the rest.

2. Did you look at/join any other Btvs/Ats site first?

3. Your best BB moment?

That's easy, when I won New Member of the Month and was asked to become a mod on the same day. It was amazing. I had only been here about a month and a half, totally loved the place and was just happy to be able to come here and have fun and then to be asked to be part of the staff? Fangasm!

4. Your worst BB moment?

I don't want to get into this either but read TK's answer to this question because it is my answer too.

The whole thing makes me a sad Kean 🙁

5. Your first impression of BB?

Oh, GOD! Not another dead forum! lol Little did I know...

7. How has your perception of BB changed since you've joined?

Absolutely, that has to happen over three years. Everything changes, we just gotta roll with the punches.

1. Why did you join BB? Because I was soooo into BtVS that I wanted a place to get even more into it 😛
2. Did you look at/join any other Btvs/Ats site first? Nope. I googled Buffy and found this 😀
3. Your best BB moment? Hmm... I'm still fairly new so I can't really answer that question. lol
4. Your worst BB moment? I think in general it's just the way I post. I can't articulate my thoughts properly and I usually end up wording things wrong; which leads into me having to make post after post explaining myself :lmao:
5. Your first impression of BB? I thought it was pretty cool. A little stricked though, but I think that's because I'm only a part of one other forum (non-whedon) and it gets pretty bad over there. lol
6. Your impression of BB now? I LOVE it 😀
7. How has your perception of BB changed since you've joined? Like I said, I'm fairly new so I'm still getting used to it 🙂

Why did you join BB:

After not watching Buffy properly for years, i've recently become fascinated with the show again. I found myself wanting to find and speak to people who felt the same and after searching on the internet i found BB.

Did you look or join any other Buffy sites: No i saw this one first :smile3:

Your best BB moment? Only joined a couple of weeks ago but at the moment i'd say i liked the welcoming thread, was a nice touch. Also its great when people say they like what you said.

Your worst BB moment? Making a point in a thread about me thinking the lesser characters wouldn't do well after Buffy, that point was destroyed showing i still have much to learn.

First impression of BB? I enjoy it because like tonight i can straight away talk about something i've seen or like tonight how my views have changed etc.

How has your perception changed? Hasn't changed still a friendly, interesting place which i enjoy checking throughout the day, but its only been a couple of weeks :biggrin3:

1. Why did you join BB? It seemed like the best Buffyverse forum on the net, and it definitely was.
2. Did you look at/join any other Btvs/Ats site first? Yep, I joined ********* as well. I still visit SA, but not nearly as much as I do BB.
3. Your best BB moment? Making friends and winning VH's Member of the Month.
4. Your worst BB moment? I don't care to discuss this lol.
5. Your first impression of BB? I was very overwhelmed at first and was afraid I wouldn't be "accepted" since it seemed very clique-y. Little did I know how easy it was to be welcomed.
6. Your impression of BB now? It's an integral part of my internet life. I usually visit it daily and it's one of my top favorite sites on the net.
7. How has your perception of BB changed since you've joined? See above.
8. Anything else? I just want to say that some members here have become some of my best internet friends! 😛 😀

1. Why did you join BB?
I always watched the show but got the dvd set last year and watched it all over again..so i got interested again and searched for a forum to see what others thought of the show.

2. Did you look at/join any other Btvs/Ats site first?
No...it my first forum for anything lol..so its all new to me

3. Your best BB moment?
I'm so new..so i don't have one yet...

4. Your worst BB moment?
Lol..prolly when it took me a whole day to figure out how to start a thread..i'm a little hard headed so i didn't ask for help or to be adopted.

5. Your first impression of BB?
Its cool..i enjoy reading other peoples posts..some of ya'll articulate your words well that i get overwhelmed sometimes lol..i say to myself "thats what I wanted to say but couldn't figure out how to like that."

6. Your impression of BB now?
Still cool..alot of good topics here, nice people..but i'm still trying to fit in cause i see alot seem to know each other well which is a good thing.

7. How has your perception of BB changed since you've joined?
Can't really answer since i'm still new.

8. Anything else? Just a thanks to all the people who put together and contribute to this forum being a great experience. 🙂

Hm, actually, oddly enough Kean, I barely ever recognized your existence until a couple of months ago, and I never even knew that Lyri was here until she posted in my Switcheroo thread! I say it's odd because now you guys are like the Queens of my world. :tongue3: No wonder I left right after I joined, I hadn't yet gotten to know you awesome people!

Anywho, One thing that I've noticed is that my spelling and grammar has improved a lot since I first joined. I mean, everyone types a little too quickly here and there, but for the most part I think that my posts sound much more articulate and... good. :tongue3:

Also, something very clear in my memory was the first time that I ever posted a really good post, my Spuffy S6 Style thread. I spent a couple of hours writing, accidentally deleted it 🙁 , then wrote it again (it took me 6-7 hours to write) and felt so pleased. Finally, my posts had more than just a measly little paragraph. It gave me a really strong feeling of accomplishment, but also made me nervous that people would expect me to ALWAYS give posts that awesome. Which, since it took so much effort to write, I obviously wasn't going to do. 😉 Of course, nowadays I can easily write really amazing posts (If I don't mind spending my whole day doing it, anyway), so that's fun. 😀

Of course, I'm probably going to look back at this in a couple years, smack my head on my desk, and wonder what the idiotic twelve year-old version of myself was blathering on about. 😀

2. Did you look at/join any other Btvs/Ats site first? No, I googled Buffy Forums and it came up with this. I've never looked back.

3. Most of my experiences have been quite good.

5. Your first impression of BB? I was very impressed on how active it is and how huge the forum was. Oh and how friendly everyone was.

6. Your impression of BB now? I don't go a day without checking it! Its an essential part of my life and would cry if it ever closed down.

A few fellow members over at ********* had come here and caused a bit of a rickus in the chat, and I came to read about what they did and make sure you guys didn't hate us. Then I stayed.

Several.

3. Your best BB moment?
When my Raiden/Christmas banner won.

4. Your worst BB moment?
Blackadder. Every moment reading a post of him, arguing with him and finally finding out about the child pornography.

5. Your first impression of BB?
Big, confusing.

6. Your impression of BB now?
Big, inviting.

7. How has your perception of BB changed since you've joined?
It's more like a home now, compared to when I came here and everyone hated "my" forum (*********).

1. Why did you join BB?

I discovered BtVs and Angel last year. Since then I was so excited about those new shows...I was like"where was I when they were shown on tv?" and I wanted to find someone to discuss them about. I have very few friends who know Buffy, and those who do are not so much interested as I am( I am a Buffy nerd obviously!!!). So I searched Buffy forums in Google and I don't know maybe the PTB or Buffy's slayer power led me here:tongue3: Seriously I found this forums by chance!!! It was one of the greatest moments ever!

2. Did you look at/join any other Btvs/Ats site first?

No. I was lucky to find immediately exactly what I wanted. Which is this place obviously.

3. Your best BB moment?

Well I enjoy my time so much here that I can't really find JUST ONE good moment! :biggrin3: I would say talking to all those interesting people here, discovering that other people like Buffy and Angel so much, being nominated as an underrated poster. Really I have an amazing time here.

4. Your worst BB moment?

I haven't had any yet. People here are so nice to me and we all have interesting discussions. I know that we are at war with Spuffies...(lol I am just joking!). Even when I disagree with someone, I learn to see things from a totally different point of view which actually helps me understand the shows and the characters much better.

5. Your first impression of BB?

At first I was lost.There were so many threads and so many posts!!! I haven't been in many forums...just three with BB included and those were for other shows and actors. I have no great experience with how threads and signatures work for example, but I learned from other people here who seem more experienced.

6. Your impression of BB now?

It ROCKS! 🙂

7. How has your perception of BB changed since you've joined?
I visit it quite often and enjoy my time here. At first I used to come here every time I finished an episode because I hadn't watched the whole shows like many people here. Now I have completed the series and I can do some rewatching and analysis of the characters!

8. Anything else?

What can I say? I am proud to have met people of all ages here who love these shows and in addition have such interesting opinions about many matters, not just the shows. I am glad to read everyone's posts and I am happy that I am a member cause it makes my day!!!

My Abbie winning (along with others) lil' pumpkin bellie award and starting my new year in 2009 with a PM asking me is I wanted to become a Mod 🙂

I'd rather not dredge it up but it was in 2001/2002

5. Your first impression of BB?

It was bigger than the other forum I was on at the time and full of friendly people willing to tach me how to use things like photoshop and msn lol I had only just got my first pc in 2001!

Still love it and the members in it 🙂

7. How has your perception of BB changed since you've joined?

Very much so. As I mentioned earlier there was a little bad time for me in the early days and I'm glad to still be here and know the members that i do and thank Buffy Summers for running such a great site 🙂

1. Why did you join BB?
I had been checking several forums, this one included, reading the things that the members posted, and this seemed to be the best balanced site. Most of the others were so pro Spuffy that there was no real challenge for debate there. The Boards seemed to be the best balanced as far as all of the different ships were concerned, the discussions were always both interesting an consistently civil, and the people just seemed to be the most friendly.

2. Did you look at/join any other Btvs/Ats site first?
The only other Buffy/Angel forum that I was ever a member of was the WB's official web site, long defunct by the time that I came here.

3. Your best BB moment?
It's always been so much fun here that it would really be hard to single out one single moment, but the month that I spent shipping Bangel was among the happiest, not because of the Bangel thing as much as why I was there. (If you can't figure it out, you'll just have to wonder).

4. Your worst BB moment?
I really don't think that I've had one of those yet.

5. Your first impression of BB?
That it was a friendly place, with a lot of nice people who were willing to be patient with an old antique unreformed Trekker-turned-Buffy-fan like me.

6. Your impression of BB now?
Pretty much the same as my first impression, except that a whole lot of those nice people, I'm very proud to say, I now consider friends.

7. How has your perception of BB changed since you've joined?
I no longer see it as just another place where a bunch of people gather and love Buffy. The people here care about all kinds of things. They have their own views, opinions, and interpretations of countless things, and they are for the most part polite, articulate, and courteous when discussing their opinions with others.

8. Anything else?
Yeah. The Spuffies are gonna take this place over, because the Bangels have gotten fat and lazy and complacent. They won't even see us coming before they are completely overwhelmed. Adopt-A-Bangel is their only hope of survival.

I was searching for Buffy/Angel forums and this one looked the best! I wanted desperately to find a place to talk about the show with other fans.

2. Did you look at/join any other Btvs/Ats site first?
No. This was the first one I joined.

3. Your best BB moment?
Winning awards 🙂

4. Your worst BB moment?
Finding out about Edmund Blackladder...and being temporarily banned. 🙁

5. Your first impression of BB?
Awesome, active, and well-organized board with lots of style!

6. Your impression of BB now?
Same as above. 🙂

7. How has your perception of BB changed since you've joined?
Well, I know more people now, so I feel more comfortable here.

8. Anything else?
This place is so amazing, I'm so glad it's here. 🙂

1. Why did you join BB?
I had nobody else to talk to about btvs. I used to go on a very small forum that was attatched to a fan website but it was closed. I was having buffy withdrawlas!

2. Did you look at/join any other Btvs/Ats site first?
As I mentioned, I was part of a small forum but apart from that I was not apart of any other btvs sites. I did look at countless sites.

3. Your best BB moment?
When I was voted Merrickan of the month and got the Why We Fight award in the same week. I never felt like I was part of the buffy boards gang more than in that moment.

4. Your worst BB moment?
My first fight. Not fun, mostly because I got all nervous and blubberd. Yes, I have found a way to do that over the internet.

5. Your first impression of BB?
I thought it was just amazing. I had no idea a place like this still existed and was in awe. It is put together so professionally. I was also really scared because everybody seemed to know each other really well and I was like the new kid. Plus, this bad thing that had happened was just finishing and I remember this meanish fight going on between two members in this thread where I had commented on the thread's topic. I remember HisMrs saying something like "Guys look, Emzzie has now obviously seen what you are both saying. Our newbies don't need to see this." And I remember feeling very protected and I knew this place was going to be great.

6. Your impression of BB now?
Fantastical and fantabulous. I am addicted and adore it. The people I have meet and the discussions I have had have been a blast.

7. How has your perception of BB changed since you've joined?
Well, I don't feel like the newbie anymore!
