Your best ever gig?

I'm a big fan of music and you can't really beat seeing your favourite band/artist live! So I was just wondering what everyones best live experiences were like and who you went to see?

I'd say my 3 favourite ever gigs have been The Eagles, Lifehouse and 3 Doors Down 🙂

Find it very hard to pick a specific concert.

It's easier to pick certain moments.
Like hearing Black Sabbath (original line-up) play the song Black Sabbath. Just magical.

Or every time I've heard AC/DC play Let there be rock. Will never get tired of that.

There's also other great experience like meeting cool The Donnas fans, from both England and Germany, before their concerts in Stockholm and Hultsfred.
That made those concerts very special even though I will rank any AC/DC concert higher from a musical viewpoint.

I have 2 favorite gigs... so far...

AC/DC at Hockenheim in 2009. 90,000 people on a race track. It was sooo frickin amazing. Really great.

Iron Maiden at Frankfurt in 2011. My second Maiden gig. The crowd was awesome. Really rough, but it was so much fun. I was exhausted after the concert. I never felt so whacked in my entire life!
Oh, and since were already talking about music and gigs... Maiden are coming to Europe next year. I'm going 4 times 🙂 Twice to Frankfurt (they added a second night due to the incredible ticket demand), once to Singen and to Paris 🙄

It's hard to pick just one show; but one of the best shows I've been to was Coldplay. I'm not a huge Coldplay fan but was very pleasantly surprised by how good they were live.

Raidohead also puts on a great show.

My top 3 would be

1) ZZ Top. I love ZZ Top. I loved the whole concert. No more words.
2) Five Finger Death Punch. Huge fan of FFDP and I loved it. Again, no more words.
3) 3 Doors Down. They were much better live than I expected. A great band.

The biggest letdown concert I've been to was System of a Down. I love SoaD but was very dissappointed with them live. It was just kind of... eugh.

The best I went to was the Led Zeppelin open air festival at Knebworth House in '79 (?). The show was sold out in a few days, (400,000 tickets) so they did the following weekend as well.
Then there was the Hawkwind concert in Birmingham in '76 (?)
And the ZZ Top concert in Melbourne in '87

Oh, it's hard to pick just a top three! I saw The Black Keys last night and they were freakin awesome! 😀 But, if I had to choose, it would be:

1) David Bowie - He was so damn good, there aren't words to describe it. I love him 🙂

2) Foo Fighters - I've seen them play like 7 times, and I have every intention of going again. They just put on such a good show, they always sound fantastic, Dave Grohl is a great front man, really funny and he just seems like a nice guy. I have always walked away from one of their concerts feeling totally satisfied 🙂

3) No Doubt - This was my first ever big concert when I was like 14. They were just awesome. I remember being right down the front, right infront of Gwen Stefani and just being totally mesmerized by her.

Special mention goes to KISS, Deep Purple, Queens of the Stone Age, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Iggy Pop, Prince and The Living End.

Also I would say the biggest let down concert I have ever been too would have to be The Rolling Stones. I've never been a big fan of theirs, but I thought why the hell not? It's the Stones, they should be good. And they did play well and everything, but the energy really sucked. The crowd was horrible, and it really did just feel like Mick and Keith were just going through the motions, doing it for nothing but the pay check.

I also gotta add The Smashing Pumpkins, The White Stripes and The Vines to the worst things I have ever seen. So dissapointing 🙁

[MENTION=8277]ItMustBeBunnies[/MENTION] I second Smashing Pumpkins. I've never seen them live, but a couple of my friends have, and they said the Pumpkins, particularly Billy, sucked live. I'm a huge fan of them, but from what I've heard, their live shows tend to be a little subpar.

I've only been to one gig (weird, being the music junkie that I am), and that was The Red Hot Chili Peppers. They came to the Verizon Center this summer, and Anthony and the crew certainly did not disappoint. And Josh is an amazing guitarist, he doesn't deserve the flack he gets. John Frusciante will never be replaced, and Josh never tries to. Most of them are reaching 50, yet they rock out like they did back in their younger days. They're my favorite band, so obviously it was one of the best nights of my life. 🙂

Deftones were amazing! i have seen other bands but these guys gave it there all and Chino (the lead) sounded fantastic even when he was jumping around 🙂

ZZ Top is probably my biggest positive surprise.
Not sure why but I had imagine them being rather tired and boring these days but they put on an amazing show. Just brilliant.

Ugh thee Eagles, im so jealous. I have seen Life house and 3 doors down here in Hawaii though. I gotta say that my favorite concerts have probably been,

Papa Roach (I know, completely different from the other groups but they were great live)
oh and Elton John was good too, I saw him twice in 4 days haha. Ex had tickets and then a few days later a friend had tickets but no one to go with so I was in. lol

Two of my faves were -
Queen on their Night at the Opera tour - December 1975 at Birmingham Odeon. Just superb - they were coming to the height of their powers.
The Specials and The Selecter at Barbarellas club (also in Birmingham) in 1979 at the start of the Two Tone ska revival.
I don't get out to gigs anymore but I've seen some pretty good bands way back in the day 🙂

Ozzfest 1998. Like all festivals I enjoyed some bands and not others, but for me it was a pilgrimage to see Sabbath play. Bill Ward wasn't well, so he had been replaced but they brought him out onstage to get an appreciative cheer from teh audinece. Then Ozzy pulled his trousers down 🙂

They were awesome during the main set but the encore was the best 15 minutes of music ever. Iommi launched into the riff for Children of the Grave and I totally lost my s**t. I have never heard anything so gutturally powerful in my life.

When they're retiring (hopefully in no less than 10 years) and they're going to play an official "last concert", then it's probably going to be in the UK. And I'm gonna be there. Then we could go together. 🙂
But for this tour, 4 concerts seem enough for now. I have to take a vacation for 3 of them, I can't go to the UK as well 😱 Would be awesome though 😀

The Eagles were honestly incredible! I'm excited that you're a fan of 3 doors down and lifehouse too! I would love to see Bon Jovi actually, perhaps one day! And, I've seen Papa Roach live too and they were brilliant also! 😀

I did get to see Pantera play. Besides Sabbath, they were the best band by quite a way. The legend of Dimebag playing live isn't just posthumous hype. The dude could riff with the best of them and shred HARD. R.I.P. Darrell Abbott 🙁

Tool a few years ago at Metaltown were so good it was scary and then a year later there was Dio at the Sweden Rock festival which was amazing. I've been at a lot of great gigs though... it's so hard to pick just a few that were the best. 🙂

I have been to close to two hundred shows. From local, regional and mainstream bands. So I must always narrow it down to three/four. 🙂

Social Distortion / Tiger Army - I saw this show in Cincinnati in 2003 I think. TA blew it up and SD brought it down. It was probably the best show I ever went to.

Rancid / Legendary Shack Shackers - I saw them in Nashville in 2008 maybe. It was a while back. The show was great. It was the first time I saw Rancid play a full set. They must have played for an hour and a half. It was great.

A Global Threat / The Unseen - I think it was these two groups. I saw them in Orlando. Kill Street Punk show.

Leftover Crack - Orlando, FL. Amazing show on my birthday. Great great great! Before squatters became so in-crowd and the shows didn't stink so much, hah.

The Casualties / Roger Merit - In New Orleans. Near the the end of the show, like two dozen cops raided it. It reminded me of the scene on SLC Punk. The show was full of sing-a-longs on stage, beer, etc. Unfortuantly, it ended with my coming up with money to bail two guys out of jail.
