TV. From the start. Not because I was a fan of any of the people involved. Just the most decent thing on tv when I got home. Weren't hooked straight away. That took some time.

I was 6 when I saw my first episode ever, but I wasn't interested. Two or three years later, I decided that I wanted to start from the end and work my way forward (I seriously don't know why)...so I asked for season 4 for Christmas. I thought that it was the last season of the series haha. I finished it and I had NO clue as to who anyone was. I became so beyond obsessed because I had to know who the hell Faith was. When I first watched This Year's Girl, I thought that a demon had possessed Buffy or something and that it was torturing some poor girl in her dreams.

I came up with such ridiculous conclusions/ideas/theories because 99% of time I had no idea why certain things were happening or who certain characters were/where they came from. Now, that would frustrate the hell out of me, but I'm so happy that I did it that way. I don't think that I would have liked season 1 if I'd seen it first, and season 4 really appealed to me as a kid. So every Christmas from then on, I received a Buffy dvd box set. I think my grandparents gave me season 2 as a graduation present (5th grade). But yeah, that's where it all began.

Thats very...intersting!! Really, from the back forward...never heard that before. In no tv show!
I watched it when it originally aired, I started with season 2 episode of Surprise. Its always been my favorite episode and its what turned me into a Bangel fan.

I can't really remember. I saw it from the start when it premiered in the UK, I have a vague memory that it may have been because my best friend's big sister watched it, and we used to idolise her (she was "cool" haha!)

Now you're cool too! :D
I watched it when it first aired...I missed a few episodes and started watching it again from The Puppet Show and was hooked. Mum and I used to watch it together, she had a crush on Angel I think. 🙂

My sister watched it a lot when the first three seasons were aired, and I would sometimes watch it with her, even though it scared me quite a lot. She stopped watching after season 3 because she didn't like season 4 very much, so I never watched it again until a couple of years ago when I saw it on Netflix. Glad I picked it up again!

Erm . . Alright, I'll admit it. I started watching it because David is hot. Alright?

Seriously, I saw him in a poster and was like, who is that guy? And then I got a VHS boxed set that was the highlights from season 2 and I was like . . . :O This is Awesome!!!!!!

And that's how it all began. lol

I remember it as it was yesterday!! 🙂 My aunt was babysitting me, and she was watching BtVS. I was very young though so I don't remember much, the only scene I do remember was that Buffy had spent the night with Angel and she got up in the morning an pulled the curtains, then Angel was hit by the sunlight and had to jump away from there.
After that I didn't watch it again until early season 5 (mostly because I didn't know the name of the show, when it aired or which channel haha). But when I started watching season 5 I got addicted!! 🙂 And when I got around 13/14ish years old, I started buying the DVD's 🙂 I remember I used to spend my birthday money on them!! And I loved it!! Good times!! 🙂

I've been watching since the very first episode. I was pretty hooked to it from the beginning, but wasn't a huge fan yet. After Becoming pt. 2, it affected me so much that I went on to the internet to find out everything I could about the show, and especially on the cast; I remember myself finding out about the actors and getting surprised by each fun fact. This is by the way, where I also became a SMG fan.

A friend of mine had started watching the show and when I visited her she asked me of I wanted to see a couple of eps with her. I didn't need convincing though, I'd heard of the show before and had a feeling I thought it was good. It SO was! 😀

First I want to say that your way of becoming part of the Buffyuniverse is pretty cool.

And then I read your quote on top. And I had to laugh out loud. Or lol for those who prefer...😀
No serious the Comic starter was me ! I was on the town library and saw them! It was just for fan because they looked interesting and so I borrowed them. Then I read them. I have to add here that I didn't understand at least the half ot the things I read there. But anyway I loved the comics. The sense of humor there was great, the drawnings amazign. I gave them back, not thinking about them for a long time. Then I saw some new comics from season 8. I took them home and the Buffy fever turned back. So I bought season 1. More for fun than really interest. And after I saw season 1 episode 1 I was catched. Forever what means till now. 😀 . After I watched season 7 I re-borrowed the comics a third time and now (the most of) the written things there make sense to me! And that's how I get to the Buffyuniverse! Thank you Dark Horse! 😀

😀! That's so funny! And a really unusual way of starting watching Buffy. I'm glad the comics can lead to more people watching this awesome show! 🙂

Why's the movie not in the Poll? :-(

So anyway, that's what I first saw, I think - I saw the movie, I think way back around the time it came out, or perhaps when the VHS first came out. Can't quite recall.

I happened to like the movie, "original vision" or not. I even liked all the things that Donald Sutherland supposedly changed/added. It worked for me, even if it *was* rather goofy and silly.

Then, yeeears later, when the TV show was popular, I happened to be living in a place where someone had a big ol' TV and we had cable, so I watched a few episodes (tho', admittedly, I was a big fan of Xena and Sex and the City at the time, so mostly watched those).

Anyway, watching a few episodes of Buffy in Season 5 or Season 6, I got confused - so much seemed to have happened, it seemed pointless to try to catch up ("Another soap opera, why bother?" was my attitude at the time).

Over the years, though, I'd kept hearing so much about it, and all these other vampire shows popped up, and I'd put together a nifty Home Entertainment System, so I decided to dive full-bore into The Mystery That Was The Whole Buffy Series. Started watching them on Netflix, then decided to get "The Chosen Collection" boxed set, and watched the whole series, almost at least one every night. My friends and girlfriend thought I was nuts.

After that, I couldn't get enough, and was sad it was over. I eventually bought the Angel DVDs, but haven't watched them yet - my prime love of Buffy was the Buffy character herself - tiny blonde girl who kicks ass, ya know? Same motivation as Whedon... "Why does the cute blonde girl always get killed off in these movies anyway?" - it was nice to finally see the tables turned in media. Same reason I loved Ripley in Alien. Always a big fan of empowered, strong female role models (I'm a guy, but my mom always emphasized strong female role models).

Now I have *almost* every comic collection that's come out since that was Buffy-centric (just at Volume 2 of the Omnibus series, not interested in all the Spike-, Angel- and Faith-and-Angel spinoffs), all the Season 8 collections, and am reading the Season 9 comics as they arrive.

Still, nothing lasts forever - my love for Buffy is probably an indication of my yearning for my lost sense of Youthful Discovery that I had back in my own highschool and college days (where I was a dateless dork like Joss, tho' not as creative 🙂 ).

Why's the movie not in the Poll? :-( Mhm, good question. Sorry :O
I started watching it when it aired here on TV. Was pretty much hooked from the first ep.

I wanted to watch it since it started, but for some reason I didn't until half way through season 2, every thursday at 6.45 on BBC2.

Very detailed :D
For me Buffy started with the TV show

For me Buffy started 9. October 1998 when the TV show originally premiered in Germany.
At that time Sarah was pretty much unknown to me. I may have heard of her in connection with I Know What You Did Last Summer which actually came out a few month before Buffy, but I didn't see the movie until much later.
I really loved the show right from the start and was a loyal fan over its entire run.

I do not recall when I saw the Buffy movie for the first time. It may have been on TV before the show and I may have seen it but it surely didn't leave an impression with me.

So the 9. October was a really ceremonial day for you as Buffy-fan! :D
I watched the first ever episode, with my mum. Loved it. Then I started recording it when it was on late at night and used to get up every Wednesday morning at 6am so I could watch the latest episode before going to school.
