If you're already married, was your wedding how you dreamed it would be? If not, what would you change?

If you're single, what does your dream wedding entail?

I've never had an idea of a dream wedding, and I'm unsure if I even will get married. One thing I know for certain is it will be cheaper than the usual. I can't stand overblown weddings, so I would prefer it personal, couple of close friends and family only. And the cat.
 
That's a beautiful dress. My dress was also not white or ivory, when we got married last year.

Our day was great. It was quite big (and more expensive than we thought it would be!) but it was very personal to us. It contained many geeky references. Buffy, Angel and Spike were mentioned in my speech too. 😉

But most importantly, it was a great, fun day. All our friends and family still say they had the best time and that's what made it the most special to us. I wouldn't change a thing about it. 🙂
 
My first wedding was fine. Big because I was in a culture where parents invite their entire social circle, but they paid for it so no prob. There were a few issues but nothing to fret over.

However...Me being the crazy fan girl that I am. I had a faux fan girl wedding planned for last Summer. I paid a LOT of money to have a detailed doll made of the groom. I had a dress, ring, wedding cake ordered, site chosen, cake toppers etc all ready to go. The doll was not done on time, even though I ordered it early, paid extra to guarantee it's completion etc.

Of course, in spite of promises, lies, lies and more lies the doll was not complete. I did not receive it until 6 weeks later and when it came it was a horrible cheap mess. So...the wedding never took place and seriously, I was depressed for a long time. After all the planning, hype, anticipation, excitement with friends over a silly, but fun event, and then nothing.

I didn't have the heart to reschedule.

The whole thing just totally sucks. I had attendants, we were going to hold the ceremony at a waterfall, it was going to be so amazing. Instead I just ended up with wedding cake (it was too late to cancel the order) and egg on my face. Can you imagine how it feels to get stood up by a doll?

Eventually I did make the doll myself, and he's awesome, but we have no plans to marry in the future.

Yes, I do appreciate how bizarre this sounds, but really my friends and daughter and I were having a lot of fun planning it all. Other fan girls will understand.
 
To me, being in the center of a huge wedding is more a nightmare than a dream. Thankfully, that goes for my husband as well. We were quite content with cohabiting, when we got married it was because securing his rights a father was easier that way. We secretly nipped off to my favourite old rock and married at the registrar's office there. The only ones who knew, were three friends, one who was my best man, and a couple who are both close friends. I can't remember which of them signed the papers, in our heads they were my husband's "best whatever" together.
 
I loved my wedding and wouldn't change a thing about it!

I never really had any visions of a dream wedding and found the whole ordeal overwhelming so when Mr. Brinkster and I got engaged I was firmly on the court house/city hall wedding train. That didn't last long and somehow our wedding snowballed into a 150 person wedding which Mr. Brinkster ended up planning most of.

One of my favorite parts was the flowers. I was dead set on simple flowers rather than the usual centerpieces and most florists have a flat (starting) fee for florals and for some reason flowers was the one thing I was not going to spend money on...so I ended up doing the flowers myself and they turned out awesome!

We had lots of good food, open bar and good music. Our guests had a blast, Mr. Brinkster and I loved every minute of it, and we're still getting compliments about it. I wish I had pictures to humblebrag share, but I won't be getting those back for another week.

If I ever get married, I want the wedding to be in a forest...in one of those magical spots where the trees form a sort of room, and shafts of sunlight stream down through the leaves. Mandolin and flute music...wind chimes too. Sort of a Wiccan ceremony, actually. And flowers EVERYWHERE!

We had no flowers at all, except paper flowers made by a lady on Etsy. All the bouquets and button holes were paper and the venue was outside in a garden so didn't need decorating with flowers. I doubt we saved much if any money doing it that way instead of using a florist, but they turned out to be lovely keepsakes for everyone! 🙂

I'm in the same boat as @Professor Walsh (weird sentence). Being the centre of attention, all eyes on you for the majority of a day with lots of people and goings on, sounds mega stressful and not "perfect" at all.

Perfect for me would be just us both (me and @Professor Walsh, not my other half) wedding near the sea with just a few very close others. A few photos of the ceremony for us to keep for ourselves would do fine. Pub afterwards for a pub dinner and a few beers then home to watch Buffy.

OT but on our honeymoon, we went to NZ and at the foot of a very large dormant volcano right next to the Pacific Ocean there was a massive Tsunami warning sign. Basically, if there's a tsunami, run up the volcano. I thought it was kinda funny.

Sorry, @Anyanka Bunny Killer's post just made me think of that!

Tsunami's, Tidal Waves, whatever you call them are often caused by an earthquake away from land. The effect on the waters surface is a wave that spread outwards in a circle. So like the prof said, really far away.

As for my wedding, it brought the family together and because of those who attended we made the whole front page of the local newspaper. The reception was good as well, in a local pub near an estuary with an old hill near. Magical it was for the hill used to be a haunt of witches though not Wiccan, they were said to be black witches. A very picturesque place.
