I've just realised that I haven't started a thread that isn't awards-related or modly in quite a while, so here we go...

What is the earliest historical event you can remember? I'll kick off with - I remember watching (on TV 🙂) Neil Armstrong walking on the Moon. BTW I can go further back 😉

are we just talking about news related? cuz if we are, mine would have to be the bombing in oklahoma city....

The one I can think of right off is Prince Charles' and Princess Diana's wedding. My mom and I stayed up late to watch it live on TV!

Eek. I can't think back that far.

So, probably earliest would've been the Oklahoma Bombing. I was in seventh grade I think. We were in school and watched some of the after-coverage on it on tv.

The next one would be 9-11 (I don't remember a lot things sometimes). I spent the whole day trying to explain to a five year old what was happening (because her mother wanted the tv on, but was too 'busy' to answer her questions)

I imagine I remember Tjernobyl... But then again, that was a few months before I was born so.. probably not.. Same goes for the murder of the Swedish prime minister Olof Palme, also a few months before my birth, hm.. Guess it's just that people talked about these things a lot when I was a kid..

Then it's stuff like the fall of the Berlin Wall.. and the Sovjet Union.. But again, I'm not sure if I actually remember it or just imagine to remember.. The first thing I know for certain that I remember is like... the Kosovo/Balkan war (hey I don't know what different wars are called in English but you know what I mean)..

EDIT: Ok just remembered that I remember oh so clearly the EU referendum.. in Sweden, that is.. And that was five years before the Kosovo war..

(Heh, did I mention my head is a bit messed up at the moment? Geeze I must seem confused, lol..)

I can vaguely remember Jimmy Carter giving State of the Union addresses. and I definitely remember the hostage crisis in Iran, cos it went on and on...was on the news like every day.

I remember the death of one of the Popes before John Paul II was Pope. I remember my mum dragging us to church for a special Mass. I think there were two in quick succession just before him, 1978 or something.

I don't remember the Pope, but I do remember the election. We waited, watching the news, to see the white smoke rising from St. Peter's......

Pope John Paul the 1st, right? Was pope for like month or something. All kinds of conspiracy theories about his death...

I remember when Estonia sank, I don't know how well you people from other countries knows this but here in sweden it was a very big thing. I remember that we didn't have so much real lessons in school, instead we talked about what had happened.

Oh that's true.. I remember that as well.. gah my memory is weird though..
i live in Northern Ireland, so i've lived with 'historical events' my whole life.
but i guess the first one i can really remember would be the Shankill Road bombing in 1993...i was about 7.

What was that cult leader's name...the one that made all those people drink poison? Jones....something or other? I remember that.
