OK, here's the big one...I can remember where I was when I heard President Kennedy had been assassinated...in class at Alcester County Infant's School. The headmaster, Mr Wilson, interrupted our lesson to tell the teacher (whose name escapes me) the sad news.

I have liek the worst memory ever...I remember beign in social studies class when we heard about 9/11...i remember not thinkng much of it because all they said was two planes crashed into the world trade centers...it didnt really hti me till i got home and saw the news...I was in eight grade then...im sure somethign happened when i was younger than that but i honestly have very few memories before about 6th or 7th grade...thast probably nto good...

I vaguely remember the Oklahoma City bombing, but I've never been much for the news. What I most remember is 9/11. I was in seventh grade, in study hall, and someone ran into the classroom and told us to turn on the tv, it was crazy. Everyone was freaking out.

I vaguely remember Cjernoble, and I remember the Berlin Wall coming down but other than that my memories are really vague. I have never been one to watch the news a lot.

This is by no means my earliest memory but one of my most vivid historical memories is from when i heard that Kurt Cobain was dead. I remember that day and how it effected me very clearly indeed.

Slightly off topic i know but the theme of this thread made me think about it again.

I'd have to say the death of Princess Diana. I was in third grade and I didn't really get it. I didn't know who she was at all, so I wasn't quite sure why every channel on television was talking about it. But, I get it now, don't worry. 😉

I had a mind blank for a second there and I don't know if this is the earliest historical memory of mine but it is certainly prominent! I remember hearing about the tragic abduction and death of little James Bulger on the news as clear as day.

Man! Now I'm depressed! 🙁

Mine is somehow related to the Cold War I think... 1991, I remember quite clearly seeing my parents impressed by what they had heard on TV or something and I think they tried to explain to me that sth had changed... I guess I didnt gt it but somehow it marked me, lol

I remember the 1969 moon walk...but my first historical memory is from 1967...Canada had its Centennial that year, and I remember wanting to go to Montreal to see the Expo, and that cool American pavillion. The wars in Bosnia (or at least I think it was there) in the beginning of the 90's. I remember being afraid that it would spread and that we'd be caught up in it.

Then we've got the Estonia. Which I remember vividly since they cancelled the showing of MacGyver and had a lot of extra news programs, which at the time annoyed the crap out of me. The anger for not getting to see my favorite show was a good emotion to hide all the fear of the reality and tragedy of Estonia.
