Hi!

I was just wondering. What is your favorite movie genre?
What kind of movies do you enjoy watching the most?
I'm well aware that there are many sub-genres and that many movies rank among multiple genres and that it's hard to settle for just one.
I can't really decide either 😱

Anyway, just write what kind of movies you like and give maybe a few examples 🙂

Edit: I just checked 'multiple choice', so you can choose more than one genre.

Since time immemorial, OM3.0 (I really should stop with the third-person referencing, I'm creeping myself out) has been a connosieur of Horror, with Sci-fi/Fantasy running at close second and third respectively.

My preference in Horror is in the older flicks, from the 50's right on through to the 80's. That was the real stuff, without which none of the current crop would even exist. Sure, they were primitive to young eyes, but one must obviously consider the time they were produced.
I tell ya, though, they were honest and entertaining productions for the most part and they did a hell of a lot with what little they had to work with.
I'm not saying there weren't some stinkers among them, but there's always going to be, regardless of genre. No getting around that.

I could list a few examples, but there are way too many good ones to choose from. I'd have to sit and think about it a little first......

There are lots of genres that I enjoy (pretty much all of them except action) but my favorite is comedy. I'm more a TV person than I am movie person... Just because I'm ADD and it's harder for me to sit and pay attention to an hour and a half movie rather than a 40 minute or 20 minute TV episode. If I'm going to sit down and pay attention to one thing for that long, it's going to make me laugh.

I love Political Thrillers 🙂 so I voted other...and since it was multiple choice I also voted action.

Although I must admit, I have a horrible soft spot for silly chick-flicks like 13 going on 30, The Notebook, Uptown Girls, Legally Blond...don't judge me! 😛

I went with Adventure, Thriller and Horror.

I think Raiders of the Lost Ark is the perfect example for my taste in movies. All three are in there.

But I also really enjoy crime movies like Heat or Bullitt and Sci-Fi/Adventure-Stuff like (the original) Star Wars and Jurassic Park.

What I don't like is Fantasy like Lord of the Rings.

Oh, and I forgot, I'm also a fan of old movies from the 40's to 60's.
Mainly Hitchcock's work such as Psycho, Rear Window, Rope or The Man Who Knew Too Much.

Yeah, wow! You hate fantasy THAT much? I have an elvish tattoo! I love Raiders of the Lost Ark!
I like horror but really only the 90's slasher flims, they try to make them serius but I can not stop llaughing the whole way through. But I have to say chick flicks are my favorite, they make me laugh so much its redonkilus.

I love romantic comedies as they don't take much concentration. I have a really short attention span with films so something light and predictable suits me fine.

Yeah, plus there's always a hot guy! ;) lol
I chose horror and romantic comedy, because I love funny love stories, but I also love alot of horror movies and most of my favorite movies are in the horror genre.

I like comedies, action and thrillers, and even some dramas but my overal favourites have to be horror and sci-fi. Films that combine these two genres are some of my favourites, including Alien and Aliens. I Like sci-fi fantasies like Star Wars, but not pure fantasies like Lord of the Rings so much. However I do like the new installments of the Batman series. Final Destination's a good horror one for me, my favourite comedy film would have to be Dumb and Dumber. A sub-category I quite like aswell is Appocalyptic sci-fi films such as War of the Worlds, Day after tommorow, 2012.

I am a movie girl and my by far favorite genre is horror. I was raised watching horror movies I just love them so much.

I also voted for action because I love a good action flick and then drama of course. I was going to vote for comedy but it takes a lot to make me laugh I usually prefer dark comedy like Election and American beauty. I think The Hangover is the first comedy in a while that made me really LOL.

"But I also really enjoy crime movies like Heat"
These are a genre in their own and I love these kind of movies. Casino and Goodfellas are probably my favorites.

Comedy is my favorite factor since I enjoy laughing..so it could be any kind of comedy but i'm twisted and enjoy dark comedy a lot lol....but other favorites are Crime Dramas, and old school Horror.

I don't think I have a favorite. I voted for like 6 things, lol, and then I realized I forgot to vote for a few more. I like all movies. My top favorite movies are Bladerunner, The Way We Were, The Prestige, and Everyone Says I Love You. So that's sci-fi, romance/drama, thriller, and musical/comedy/romance all together? Hmmm.😀

I chose "Other," because my favorite film genre both it can contain all of the elements of all of the other categories that were listed AND stands apart, and, I personally believe, head and shoulders above all of the rest. It's a term that you don't hear very often anymore, and see legitimate examples of even more rarely, but it's what I grew up loving when actors like Errol Flynn, Douglas Fairbanks, Stewart Granger, Robert Taylor, and Robert Shaw were in their prime.

(If someone would please give us a drumroll...)

SWASHBUCKLERS!!

Or maybe...

And don't even dare compare that wimp, Johnny Depp, with Robert Shaw, let alone Tyrone Power or Errol Flynn!

Oh my god! That's awesome! Swashbucklers! I don't know...I think Jack Sparrow could put up a worthy fight!
I will watch just about anything except horror. I don't like being scared, I don't like that feeling in your chest when you know something's about to happen, but you don't know when. I get embarrassed at being made to jump and squeal like a 12 year old girl, and then I get mad at feeling embarrassed. It's not a pretty sight.

My favorite movies are Ten Inch Hero, Serenity, Dirty Dancing, The Blind Side, Chance and Brokeback Mountain. All VERY different, but I love all of them some much, I watch them over and over.

I love the Fast and Furious movies, the only movies my mother and I agree on, and we can literally watch them four times in the same week, because the movie channels always seem to be showing at least one of them at any given time, and we actually have no will power to turn them off.

I'm also a huge fan of musicals and movies revolving around dance of some sort. (My mother was a professional dancer as a child, so that's her influence, lol)

I LOVE ten inch hero actually one of my favorites as well! I love that genre more independent. Dirty dancing, Serenity karma as well :p
I am a filmfreak, I love all kinds of movies, lately I've been watching horror the most. splatter, torture porn, the nastier the better.. I love Rob Zombie's movies.

But I'll watch anything. There are a few directors that I like and dislike that kinda determines what I watch. I think that Quentin Tarantino is the closest thing there is to a God.
I hate movies by like Woody Allen, Kevin Smith, Larry Clark and Harmony Korine..

My top 5 favorite movies are: Welcome to the dollhouse, Inglorius Basterds, Schindler's List, The Adventure's of Picasso and Se7en..

My preference in Horror is in the older flicks, from the 50's right on through to the 80's. That was the real stuff, without which none of the current crop would even exist.

I jump freely between genres depending on mood, seldom thinking of preference but if I had to choose one then OM3's answer about is the only way to go. That's the stuff that feels timeless and that is always great to watch 🙂

I am shocked and appalled that the musical was not on that list. And right as i was watching clips from Avenue Q.

Sorry for that. I had to leave some out, because the list would have been too long. 🙁
I was always like "OK, now you have Western on the list. But now that you have that, you also need blahblah."

prophecygrrl agrees: You don't like LOTR??

No. I don't know why, but I can't really enjoy these movies. They're OK, but they're just not my thing.
But I can understand your reaction.
It's about the same way I react when someone says that they've never seen Jurassic Park 😱 😀
