Your favorite role

There are many things we love about Buffy and Angel but one of them are the various types of roles that each character plays in the good fight. So which is your favorite. I know most of us probably love them all, I know I do. Still, which one stands out above all others in your mind. A watcher, a slayer, a witch or wizard, a demon hunter, a vampire with a soul, demon(half breed or pure) or comedic sidekick/other. 
This was tough for me. Especially between Watcher and Vampire, but ultimately went with Vampire because the very mythology of guys like Angel and Spike, the history they've witnessed..the things they've seen is just so very fantastical to me. Not to mention being immortal kicks total ass and I'm a night person anyways so why not 😛

Easy choice for me. I went with the Slayer. Buffy, Faith even Kendra. But I just love the idea of the slayer, the fact that they are all girls, there special powers, I just love it. They can kick ass and are even more powerful than the vampires. All around just awesome!

Slayer for me too. Something about one girl in all the world, it's just something that I think each one of us can relate to. Metaphorically, it's great to represent how we might feel at one point or another in our life. On a not so metaphorical standpoint, slayers are just really awesome. But overall, the mythology for slayers is what is truly great.

I voted watcher. I definitely identify very strongly with the watchers in the show and the profession. It is the most compatible of all the formal roles in the show with my interests. For example, I'm very good at research on dry, academic types of topics and I enjoy it; I can do it all day long. If the watcher's academy were real I probably would have joined and I probably would have excelled if I may say so. It also appeals to my paternal instinct to guide and protect. I find the thought of taking upon myself the great responsibilities inherent to the job an attractive one.

But I also identify very strongly with Angel in many ways. Many ways.

Just Angel though, not vampires in general.

Yes I wanted to vote Watcher for so many of the same reasons. Im a nerd, and a word nerd at that lol. Angel was mainly who I was thinking about when I voted for vampires 🙂

Plus I like the idea of 'one girl in all the world', the unfolding mythos behind them and the complexity of the slayer dichotomy. Leads to great characters.

Witches/Wizards ( and by the way isn't a man-witch called a warlock in Buffyverse ) Why? 'Cause they earn their power - they're not given it and they're not born with it. So you want to be a badass witch-person? Patience, dedication, strength - you can do it! Also, they get to do all the cool shit - fly, teleport, change the weather, turn into little animals, conjure balloons, get high, levitate knives, curse, alter memories, control minds, throw fireballs, flay, end the world. Yeah, witches are awesome.

Get to fly, shoot lightning bolts, teleport etc. If I want to fight evil, I can, but nobody's forcing me to. Sweet. 😉

I voted other. I was always be intrigued by the 'real' people of the show. Joyce, Snyder, Kate, David.. then in smaller roles: Percy, Larry, Scott, Parker, Chantrelle/Lily/Anne, Olivia, Virginia Bryce, The Burkles.

To me, the 'real' characters were what grounded the show and kept it interesting. The further each series moved from these characters the less I was enthused with them.

To me, the 'real' characters were what grounded the show and kept it interesting. The further each series moved from these characters the less I was enthused with them.

I disagree. The reason is that the supernational in Buffy is a metaphor for growing up in the world anyway. And what makes Buffy such a cool character is that she is ultimately a normal girl who has to deal with extordinary things. That she remains grounded and has such a strong sense of right and wrong is why you like her so much.
I can see how it became a bit effects heavy in later seasons. But I don't think it got away from what it was about, because when Willow is obsessed with black magic that is metaphor for people getting adicted to drugs/booze in the real world.

I went with Slayer, but Witch was pretty close because I do like what they did with Willow when she becomes a witch. I love the realtionship with Tara and it was just such a different representation of witches on TV.

I like watchers, because they bring a sense of normality to things. And I liked watching characters like Giles and Wesley develop. They also have a very unappreciated job that helps the slayers a lot.
