I thought this might be a good idea for a thread since everyone has a smartphone and there are a billion apps out there to choose from. I've been on android for years now but only in the last year really started to look out for better apps.

So I'll start with a couple that have been great for me.

Metal Pro - This is an app which integrates Facebook and Twitter. Much lighter than the official apps, less fussy for permissions and also accepts messenger requests.

SafeInCloud Pro - A password protection app. You remember one password and this does the rest. I've only just started using it and it's been brilliant. Not just password but you can use it for storing all sorts of important information and notes and also sync it between your phone, tablet, laptop etc. Very user friendly.

What are your favourites?

Ok I know nothing about technology, but my favourite app is Spotify. I love having all that instant music. I also have Shazam so if I hear something I don't recognise I can quickly find out what it is, and add it to my Spotify playlists.

I'm sure everyone has WhatsApp, though sometimes I wish I didn't because I can't always keep up and people just get annoying. I have Twitter and Instagram but don't use either of them a lot. I get a lot more use out of CastBox, which is a great podcast app.

Shazam. This identifies any music it hears with title and performer with links to the lyrics. It is an amazing app, very accurate even for obscure music. I often wonder whether they use waveform analysis or a Fast Fourier Transform to identify the music but whatever they do, it works.

I've been mooching off my girlfriends Spotify but she's had to cancel as they won't give her discount anymore. I'm giving Deezer a try which seems pretty good so far.

How much use do you get out of it? I've always thought it was a great idea but couldn't picture myself actually using it more than once or twice a year.

Don't use that many apps.
There is of course the obvious ones for email, send messages and browse the web but those hardly counts...

Besides that I think I use Notes the most.
My favorite Note app is actually the one that comes with iOS.
Never did find one on Android that I thought worked better.

Another must have app is the week app. It just tells you which week it is.
A must here in Sweden where we often talk dates in weeks. This or that should be finished at the end of week 45. Yeah great, which week is it now again?
I almost bought an iWatch just so I could see which week it is easily.

The official Formula 1 app is quite good to. But expensive.
I really like the live timing when watching a F1 race. It really adds to the experience compared to just watch it on TV.

Also use my own Location Reminder App to get reminders when I arrive at certain places. It's rather slimmed down but that's why I like it. It does exactly what I want and nothing more.
And my Password app to save all these annoying passwords. Didn't want to trust anyone else but myself with my passwords...

They all count! I've switched all of these from the default on android and now have a better experience. Gone to lightning browser, maildroid and textra for messaging.

I had no idea that was a thing anywhere. I work in an accounts department and have to know the week number for payroll but other than that it's not a thing her level at all.

You made your own? That's awesome. I've taken a reluctant leap of faith to trust one from the store to look after mine.

In the last five years, a technique called LSTM neural network took over and replaced all previous sound recognition algorithms (wavelet etc). This was also why the sound-to-text accuracy improved towards human level recently.

I use IMDB a ton. Along with YouTube and the Netflix app.

I'm proud to say I've stopped using Snapchat. And thank goodness, it's a disease.

I use the preloaded email and message aps. One calander type ap. Insta for the bunnies.

My favorite apps?
All Audible all the time 😛 (When I'm not listening to podcasts that is)
My bank app.
Instagram.

I use some social media apps like WhatsApp and Facebook messenger a lot too though because I seem to have a daily need to communicate a lot of random shit to close friends. I'd rather remove Facebook entirely but my best friend refuses to get any other app to communicate through, it's really annoying.

Fed up of all the nudes? I can't think of anything else the app makes sense for.

I need to get some new books to listen to. Loved the Harry Potter series and was enjoying Game of Thrones as well. Perfect for the commute.

I want to get rid as well. I don't like the data gathering and advertising. Trouble is that it's a very handy platform and also like you say everyone is already wedded to it.

Now that's a little offensive. Mostly I just looked at people stories and used the actual chat feature. Still it was stupid.

Ah okay. An emoji would have helped lol. You're somewhat right with how a lot of people use the app though😉

It was meant as a joke, should have added an emoji :-)
I never did snap chat cos I legit did think it was a nude photo ap lol.

I got rid of Facebook but occasionally check in on the site via Chrome. It's a pain to use like that, so it helps me not stay long when iI visit as it is frustrating. I really only like fb to tell the listed real life contacts how disappointed I am in all of them then deactivated for another month. Im finding the tracking gets me every where so maybe that is Google keyboards doing.

I didn't mention my pink pad, health tracking app. I feel like i should secure that info better somehow.

I didn't have much room on the i phone for apps so Ive only had limited exposure really.

Or your browser, search engine or anything else you can think of. You name it and Facebook and others are tracking it. I've got epic browser on my laptop and every time I load a new page it'll come up with a list of sites it's had to block from trying to snoop after me.

The app I use most is PocketCasts for Podcasts. I've just finished S1 of Serial and just moved on to S-Town. I am loving the true crime podcasts! 😀

Otherwise it's Instagram, WhatsApp & Facebook, although honestly the more I use FB the more I just want to deactivate it. It's just not a fun place to be anymore.

Priceless

I love the True Crime podcasts, but I get so creeped out lol
I would love to get rid of Facebook as well, but yeah it's the easiest way of keeping in touch with people, I do however rarely add new people and actually delete people off it frequently.

I wish I could get rid of loads of the inbuilt apps, but I've disabled them at least.

Pinterest (I love that one SO much!) Aviary, Instagram, and YouTube. Basically, these are the ones that I use everyday.

I got rid of Facebook and instead I have a new game to procrastinate with!

I'm trying to remember to use my period app properly so it actually tracks me.

Connie Uhrzeit, Connie lernt das ABC und Fiete Math are the only Apps, I have. And whats app, but I thought, that was kinda coming with the phone. Like the ringing tone and the battery. I only got a Smartphone because I needed whats app for playground dates. All the other moms had whats app and I was in danger of becoming an outcast from society.
