Why do you love it so much?
It's hilarious. It's funny and beautiful and has so much sentiment. There's something in each of the characters that I desire to be, and there's a lot I can identify with each character. It's just beautiful.

I would have to cheat a bit and say that my favorite book is Edgar Rice Burroughs' combined Martian trilogy, consisting of "A Princess Of Mars," "The Gods Of Mars," and "The Warlord Of Mars." Even though the language is somewhat stilted by today's standards (Burroughs began the series over one hundred years ago) and the plot seems cliched by today's standards, it must be remembered that, actually, this was the original on which all of the later stories were based.

John Carter is by any standard that you might set, the epitome of the Ultimate hero, and is the inspiration for many characters who were to come later, not the least of which are Luke Skywalker and the entire Jedi order, and the "Highlander" series of movies and TV shows. I fell in love with the character and the series more than fifty years ago, and I love them just as much now as I ever have.

The Book Thief - Markus Zusak

What's the (brief) story?
It's about a young German girl during WW2. She starts stealing books the day that her brother dies from sickness and keeps doing it all through the war. When Death came to collect her brother, he noticed her and decided to pay attention to her. This story is told from Death's point of view. The fact that even he is moved by her life, in the midst of everything that is happening in this time period . . . is amazing.

Why do you love it so much?
Love his writing style. I love all the characters. It's just beautiful. I couldn't read the last few pages very quickly because I had to keep getting the tears out of my eyes so I could see.

The Divine Comedy - Dante Alighieri

What's the (brief) story?
Dante travels through Purgatory, Inferno and Paradise with his guide Virgil. It's a sort of spiritual autobiography in the form of a journey.

Why do you love it so much?
It's a world in which reason and faith have transformed moral and social chaos into order. Though it's Christian in it's nature (and I'm not) this book has the power to transport me somewhere else when I read it. It consumes you in a way and I love it to death for it. It's very gripping.

My favorite book is, I'm not sure about the translated title, I think it's A Comedian Grows Up/En Komikers Uppväxt.
It's written by a Swedish comedian Jonas Gardell. It's about a 12 year old boy who's not popular in school and he likes to be the funny one and make people laugh, and he's only real friend is a girl who also doesn't have any other friends. It doesn't sound like much of a plot but really it's an amazing book, it's funny and sad. There are moments in the book when I'm laughing out loud and parts that makes me cry. It's the only book I've ever read more than one time.

In short it is about a house that is bigger on the inside than it should be.

I like it so much because it is the only book that makes me feel genuine fear instead of just nervous tension.

The Bell Jar - Sylvia Plath

What's the (brief) story?

Why do you love it so much?
It's just an incredible book - not many stories set in 1950s America are still as relevant and poignant today as they were back when they were published.

The Return of the Native by Thomas Hardy

What's the (brief) story?
The "prodigal son" Clym returns to a small country community from a "glamourous" life in Paris. The dark and fiercely independent Eustacia - already in a love triangle with Clym's cousin Thomasin and her fiance Wildeve - sees him as a way out of her small life and an escape to the life she was meant for. But Clym yearns for the simple life...and tragedy ensues.

Why do you love it so much?

I think the idea of wanting a bigger life than you have is something common to a lot of people - as well as after experiencing that life, yearning for the comforts of home. I also love the character of Eustacia Vye - for a 19th century dame, she's strong-willed, independent and intelligent.

I can't decide. I'm just going to go with my favourite book for the moment, 'cause picking an all time favourite feels like an impossible job.

The Dwarf - Pär Lagerkvist

What's the (brief) story?
The main character and narrator is a dwarf at the court of an Italian City-state in the Renaissance writing down his observations as a servant for the prince. The dwarf is a profound misanthrope and generally embodies all things evil. He hates almost every person at the court except for the prince (who is the ruler of the city-state, rather king than prince) and loves war, brutality and fixed positions. He is deeply religious, but his take on Christianity includes the belief in a non-forgiving God.

Why do you love it so much?
The book is the most well written book I've ever read. It also takes on a rare way of describing evil. A lot of people argue that Lagerkvist wasn't attempting to create a genuinly evil person when he wrote the book but to let the dwarf illustrate the evil side of man. At some points in the novel, especially (without revealing anything) towards the end, it appears that the dwarf is actually the embodiment of the dark sides of the prince himself, and not a real, existing person.

The Time Traveler's Wife - Audrey Niffenegger

What's the (brief) story?
Henry DeTamble has been a Time Traveler since he was a boy. He has the ability to travel through time, however he does not have the ability to control when or where he goes. One day in the present, he bumps into a young woman named Clare who knows and loves Henry, but Henry doesn't know Clare. Henry finds out that Clare was visited throughout her childhood from Henry in the future.

Why do you love it so much?
I love this book because it was so well-written. Audrey did a fantastic job of giving the characters so much personality. I got to know them so well, I felt like I knew them. Also, the story is very clever and original, like nothing I've ever read before. It's a very sweet story that deserves to be read. Also, it was adapted into a movie starring Rachel McAdams. ♥ 😱

The Drawing of the Three - Stephen King

What's the (brief) story?
The second book in the Dark Tower series: Roland our hero is washed upon the beaches of a treacherous land, and must pull 3 people from their dimensions in order to reach his goal [The Dark Tower], but there is much to do and he is gravely ill. We meet: Eddie a junkie with heart of gold, Odetta/Detta a beautiful African-American woman with dissociative Identity Disorder who later draws her two personalities into one, and "The Pusher" an evil jerk who likes to hurt people, but we also find Jake, a young boy who begins to see Roland as a father, and loves him dearly even though he has been betrayed by Roland before.

Why do you love it so much?
I love most of Stephen King's work, I know it's not really high-culture stuff, but honestly, I get tired of that after a while. Sometimes "Escapist Fiction" can be really refreshing. The Dark Tower series is one of a kind.

Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card

What's the (brief) story?

Ender Wiggin is taken to a school to be trained to be a leader in a war with an alien race. The training for this war takes the form of games. Ender's possibly the most gifted person there and has increasing responsibility thrust upon him. Eventually he is ready to play his final game.

Why do you love it so much?

It is a great look into the mind of a brilliant young boy and the effects that overwhelming pressure and responsibility can have on him.

I love these books I have a thing for witches and fantasy creatures, this has it all but it's set in this day and age and the main character is just an average woman, so it's quite modern. Love it lol

Also the No1 Ladies Detective Agency Series by Alexander Mcall Smith

The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency is a series of twelve novels by Scottish author Alexander McCall Smith. The agency is located in Gaborone, capital of Botswana. Its founder is a Motswana woman, Mma Precious Ramotswe, who features as the stories' protagonist and main detective. The episodic novels are as much about the adventures and foibles of different characters as they are about solving mysteries. Each book in the series follows on from the previous book. They have been adapted for radio, television, and internet.

I love mystery and detective things too! 🙂

Les Mis is amazing!

Princess Bride has got Wesley, who's a farm boy, and then he's dead, but secretly he's a pirate, and then he's mostly dead, and then he's not, and then he rides into the sunset and makes out with Buttercup.
Why do you love it so much? Les Miserables just has so much about justice and morality. And it has Javert. Inspector Javert. Enough said.

The Princess bride is a tale of true love and high adventure!
