Your irrational fears?

I watched the movie "Signs" and read a book about alien abductions around the same time when I was a kid, around 12, and it traumatized me. I still can't watch anything about alien abductions or read about it without getting all freaked out. I follow the Buzzfeed Unsolved series on youtube, and the alien abductions episode kept me up.

The silly thing is, I completely believe that there are other life forms out there in the universe. It's just that specific visual, with the large head and big eyes, really freaks me out!

You ought to watch the film The Fourth Kind, in the daylight hours (9 to 11) with a lot of friends. That is a film on real life abductions.
Any guess why the alien abductions seem to have stopped? Is it because humans are a nasty lot or is it because the planet is about to pack up?
I hated the film signs but that was mainly because of Mel Gibson.

Want to add to your irrational fears, human life has been discovered to come from asteroids so when will the animals take back their planet?

ILLYRIAN How many snakes are there in the UK? (types)
In the wild the only species are Grass Snakes and Adders (the only venomous ones). Obviously there are many more in zoos etc. of many and varied species. I don't like any of 'em...don't know why but I guess that's why my fear is irrational.

Shark in deep pools...impossible but I always imagine that there is a shark in a pool if my feet aren' touching the ground.

Maybe you watched that Bond film with the shark in the swimming pool?

I think all "irrational" fears stem from childhood traumas. When I was little, I accidentally got left at the bottom of an escalator in WH Smith (I didn't get on when my mum did), I then developed a fear of escalators. As I got older, I got slightly better since I could deal with the going up escalators fine but was still terrified of the going down ones (mainly because I was terrified the escalator would suddenly stop and throw me down it and I would break something or get cut up by the jagged edges or get clothing caught then get strangled to death). Even now I have to psyche myself up to use the down escalators but I still feel the fear (not as bad as it used to be but it's still there).

I dont. I think at least one of mine comes from a past life. I was a junior surf life saver and competant swimmer (Nipper) for my entire childhood and I couldnt swim over the great barrier reef :/ I had zero frightening ocean experiences in this life, happy to paddle in shark, stingray and blue bottle infested waters, capable body surfing and boarding in large swell, BUT complete and utter panic when faced with calm waters over the most beautiful reef. It wasnt the fish that scared me, it was the coral and rocks! I forgot how to swim and had to be resuced lol.

I returned to the reef again when I was 18 and could only stick my head in the water over the side of the dive boat, even that made me anxious AF.

Perhaps you subconsciously feared something would emerge from amongst the coral and rocks, grab you, then drag you down under the water where you would drown and it would eat your remains; or maybe you were worried that you would cut yourself on the coral and rocks, start bleeding, then a shark would come along and tear you apart before eating you.

What was it about the coral and rocks that scared you?

Ok now I am scared by your description of the shark attack!
Any long-time members will know that I find dolls with overly large and out-of-proportioned heads and big eyes really unnerving.

You're welcome. 🙂

No Funko dolls for you. Also, no Zooey Deschanel movies, either.

Just though, if only you could dress it up as a clown, with a hint of the Freddie Krugers
