I didn't find similar thread so I decided to open that.

We know our nicknames but I'm really curious about your REAL names.

My name is Aleksandra but people call me Ola. In Poland 'Ola' is a shortcut from 'Aleksandra'. I remember when I tried to explain it to people from other countries but some of them don't get it. How it can be the shortcut, if in 'Aleksandra' is not any 'Ola'?
My answer is: nobody knows why it is how it is. For example, a shortcut from 'Joanna' is 'Asia'.

I remember when in English school people called me Alex. It was weird, at the beginning I was too shy to say that I'm Ola, not Alex.

I like both of my names. 😀

My name is Sacha. It's origin is Russian, if I remember correctly. It's actually a nickname for Alexander , or Alexandra. My father is called Alexander, so that's quite interesting.

And on that note....my name is Lauren. It's to do with victory since a crown of laurels (which are really just the same bay leaves I use for cooking 😛 ) is what the Romans crowned their victors with. 🙄

I'm Stefanie, which means "crowned one". When I was younger, one of my hair-cutters started calling me Princess Stefanie and that stuck for a bit.

My mom wanted to call me Stevie, so that's why she picked that name. I would freak out if she ever called me that, though, so it never stuck.

Still.....a name like mine doesn't quite inspire fear. "KNEEL BEFORE WALT!" just doesn't have a very ominous ring to it. Oh well. 😛😛
