We've all got our own head canon, things that weren't confirmed for certain during the show's (or comic's) run, but something that we believe was canon anyway.

Like, for example, it's my personal canon that

Faith is older than Buffy

Nikki Wood had already been a Slayer for many years before she had Robin, and was therefore NOT a teenager and was older than Buffy when she died, thus rivaling Buffy for the 'longest running Slayer ever' title

Halfrek was posing as Cecily when we see Kali Rocha during the flashback to William's past

Plus a lot more that I'll post later.

And now, I pass the floor over to you. What's YOUR personal canon for the series?

Please keep in mind that this is basically an opinions thread, so no bashing another poster who's canon doesn't agree with yours.

I also think this is a great thread idea, not seen one like it before
I like to think that Darla was a Slayer when she was human. It's commented a few times that Darla is stronger than the average vampire and she does seem to be smarter, quicker and more ruthless than a lot of other vamps, which in my mind all come from her original Slayer instincts.

Additionally, the Master hand-picked her. Why? We see no evidence of her being particularly special during the scene in which he turns her, and we know he has a bit of a thing for Slayers.

Lastly, Darla remembers nothing from her human life, so her past is completely open to interpretation.

Like, for example, it's my personal canon that

Faith is older than Buffy

I go on the assumption that Buffy is slightly older, based solely on the fact that I wrote a fic that depends on this being the case. 🙂

Nikki Wood had already been a Slayer for many years before she had Robin, and was therefore NOT a teenager and was older than Buffy when she died, thus rivaling Buffy for the 'longest running Slayer ever' title

According to the season 9 comics (issue #6) Nikki had Robin in 1973 right after she went through her Cruciamentum, so she was 18 at that time. Later it's said she had been a Slayer for 3 years at that point. Spike killed her in 1977, so she was a Slayer from 1970 to 1977 and died at age 22. So your head canon pretty much matches real canon on this one.

Halfrek was posing as Cecily when we see Kali Rocha during the flashback to William's past

I think Joss confirmed that was the case, although I can't find where. It's why Halfrek recognized Spike in "Older and Far Away" and called him William.

* Speaking of Halfrek, in my head canon D'Hoffryn was full of BS when he claimed to destroy her soul... he killed her body, but he's not powerful enough to destroy a human soul.

* The reason the First Evil appeared to Willow as Cassie Newton in "Conversations With Dead People" instead of as Tara is that Tara's love for Willow was too strong, and the First basically got smacked down when it tried to take Tara's form.

* Phantom Dennis was in love with Cordelia.

* Fred is still there somewhere inside Illyria... once again, destroying a human soul is nowhere near as easy as villains would have us believe.

Really love the Tara bit
I was also under the impression that the scene with Spike and Halfrek confirmes that indeed she was Cecily.

I'll also agree with AndrewCrosset about Tara's love and why she never appeared as the first. I think they should have included that on the show or else it makes no sense (aside from the actress saying no) as to why the First was never shown as Tara.

Aside from that, um I believe that Angel and Spike have had sex (or at least a weird foursome) even though it was never confirmed.

Actually this one is pretty much confirmed in Season 5 of Ats:

ILLYRIA: You'll have proof soon enough. A corrupted ruler on such a path sees treachery and betrayal all around him. He cannot suffer intimates and will eventually turn against them.
SPIKE: Guess I don't have to worry about that, 'cause Angel and me have never been intimate. Except that once...

Oh dam you are right, I obviously need to re-watch AtS :P
I always head-canon that before their final battle in "Not Fade Away", both Angel and Spike were thinking of Buffy. It has always driven me insane that neither of them even mention her. I like to think that they both called her, and got an answering machine. I also have this image of Angel in his office before it all goes down, looking at his claddaugh ring, putting it in an envelope and mailing it to Buffy.

Likewise, you know how in S3 Buffy puts the ring on the floor of the mansion and we just never see it again? I totally think that Angel picked it up, has it, and is waiting until he and Buffy can be together to give it back to her (except for the situation in which I just mentioned though).

As was said above, I completely agree with the idea that Tara's love for Willow was so strong that the First couldn't take over her form.

Faith was a year older than Buffy was. Or at least a couple months.

Amy was starting to see Rack during Season 3.

Not sure if this really counts but: I A.) Don't accept the canon that involves Tara's death in "Seeing Red". B.) Reject it and accept my own that I created, and C.) Prefer mine very much 😀

Going by what may or may not be canon, Faith is just a few weeks older (December 30, 1980) than Buffy (January 19, 1981). Then again, it is one of the novels, so who knows what it "really" is...
1) Spike was harvesting the demon eggs in "As You Were" in order to make a ton of money so that Buffy would no longer have to work. There's this exchange in "Doublemeat Palace:"
SPIKE: You're not happy here.
BUFFY: (quietly) Please don't make this harder.
SPIKE: You don't belong here. You're something ... you're better than this.
BUFFY: I need the money.
SPIKE: I can get money. (gestures with his head) Walk with me now, come on.

If he'd decided to become "the doctor" after that encounter, the timing would line up perfectly with Riley's arrival and his consequent reveal.

This is very much in character for Spike at this point in the series. Think what you want about whatever progress he had or hadn't made; priority #1 was undoubtedly making Buffy happy and he'd not have risked doing something to royally piss her off and alienate himself from her unless he thought the upside would be massive, (re lots of money). And as a soulless vampire, he'd have payed no thought to the potential risk to humanity for Buffy's benefit.

2) In season 7,Buffy and Giles had a heart-to heart somewhere between that moment when the scoobies had kicked her out, and Chosen. They discussed what had happened in LMPTM and Giles had apologized for not respecting her, admitting that he did trust her and that he was immensely proud of her. Buffy admitted that she could at the very least understand where he was coming from, and she told him that she missed having him as a mentor and a father figure. She wanted to work with him, and not against him.

I know there are tons more but I can't think of them at the moment!

That Willow is bisexual. Anything else means she didn't really love Oz and he deserves more than that from Joss.

my view on the sexuality spectrum may be sheltered or something, but I don't get how you can just suddenly be fully lesbian having been "straight" before. I agree
M

Just making some guesses about what was in Willow's mind, I'm guessing she's somewhere between a 3 and 5 on the Kinsey scale, most likely a 4.

Speaking from experience, this is quite possible, you can love someone without being in love, and therefore be a lesbian while having loved a man

Tiny thing, but I don't think Buffy's pay was actually docked in "Life Serial" after she forgot to charge the customer for delivery 😛 I don't think Giles would do that

Also, there was something going on sexually between Andrew and Warren. I bet Warren was using Andrew for.. favours.. ahem.

Great thread!!!

Two things jump to mind....

1) The monks who trapped Moloch (the corrupter) in that book in season 1 of Buffy are of the same order as the monks who created Dawn (transformed the key into a Dawn shaped vessel) - I saw this based on the way in which both rituals were performed, in a circle, with chanting - and just the immense power of that spell must have been rooted in a very ancient and powerful tradition. Essentially, they completely re-wrote history, in as far as history is what we remember.

2) The apparition of Darla that appears to Connor, pleading with him not to sacrifice that girl so that Jasmine can be born in Angel S4 is actually a Power that Be (Is?).... Obviously she hasn't been "born" so cannot fully exist in our reality, but I think it's the powers' way of trying to fight Jasmine (a rogue power, as it were)

Awesome!
Spike was going to get his chip removed, not a soul.

Justine was the slayer called after Buffy died. (I have no interest in getting into a Slayer line debate. This doesn't fit it but I always view her as that when watching.)

These fics, Echoes by Kita, and Sea Change by Yahtzee are what I believe happened with Angel after he realised Buffy was dead.

Angel was in Buffy's Heaven.

Angel only wears the Claddagh ring when he believes he has real hope of redemption and future with Buffy. He hasn't worn the ring since ATS S2.

Buffy met Gunn and his crew during the Summer she ran away to L.A. She also introduced Anne to them and that's how Anne got involved in helping the homeless kids.

Upon arriving in America in 1902 Angel purposely adopted an American accent so as to avoid the discrimination Irish immigrants faced at the time and to not draw attention to himself. The less he stood out, the better.

He named Connor after his father, in the hope of healing some of those old wounds of his past. When Connor came back from Quortoth hating him, for the first time in his life Angel felt like he understood his father in some ways.

During the scene in Who Are You where Buffy realises that Riley slept with Faith, the first thought in her head was that Angel would have known it wasn't her.

Mandy reminds Angel of Buffy.

He also secretly loves singing karaoke.

---------- Post added at 07:29 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:25 PM ----------

At the end of Selfless, after speaking to Anya, Xander goes back to Buffy and apologises for the "Kick his ass" comment and how he treated her when it came to Angel. She comforts him for what he is going through with Anya, and they just have a couple of beers and a heart to heart on the steps of her back porch.

Before I start, I think that what is part of your own personal canon reveals a lot about who are your favorite characters in the series (I include myself in this assessment).

Faith is bisexual, and was attracted to Buffy as soon as she met her, if not earlier. Her a good amount about Buffy, especially once it got back to the council that she'd died and been revived. This leads me to thinking that what happened in Homecoming had quite the effect on her: Buffy agreed that they'd go together (no, not necessarily romantic in nature), but then completely ignored Faith once she'd gotten there.

Oh, and the bisexuality thing? Part of what made her prison stay a little better than it otherwise would have been (seriously, whether or not you think she's bisexual, you know it happened while she was in prison -- there's no way she'd go without any sex that long.)

Faith knew when Buffy died at the end of The Gift without anyone having to tell her, and was also affected by the spell used in Primeval. I also think she has some sort of connection to the dream world or precognitive ability (see her early references to Dawn).

Some of the ones on this page are pretty good, and I can't really think of any others that haven't already been posted here.

I suggest reading the fic "Echoes" I linked to in my post. It touches on your second last point. :)

this!!
In my personal canon.

1. Liam's surname is O'Connor. I like to think so, especially because the full name of Connor would be Connor O'Connor, and I find that it is very musical 😀
I wrote a fanfic about this (with a Connor very angry about the choice of name). On his name I fantasized a lot. Why Angel chose that one? Why is Irish (this is canon), but also because it was the name of his grandfather 🙂

2. In Quorthot, where teeming with countless species of terrifying demons, had to be there also some cows (or goats), because there is no way that Connor survive without being fed milk.. come on, had not the teeth 😀. If there was no way to feed a baby, then I like to think that Jasmine has protected the child, because Connor then would become his future father.

3. When Cordelia sees herself in the mirror, (in Tomorrow) was actually Jasmine.

4. Darla is dead for the sake of his son, and has achieved redemption. Dying like a hero, she is now a TPTB (or however it works for them)

5. When Buffy returns from heaven, a part of her (unconsciously) remembers "The perfect day" of IWRY (this is lame, I know 😉 but I like to think that's true

6. Have been TPTB to bring back Angel, not The First Evil.

7. Buffy still has all the gifts of Angel (the silver cross, his leather jacket, the claddagh ring and the book "Sonnets from the Portuguese") because before the battle against The First Evil, she handed them over to Angel because he protect them 😉

8. In NFA, Angel tells Connor that in the future if he ever needed help, and he will not be there to help him, then should call Buffy (Angel thinks he will die in the final battle, and that he will never see his son again). Angel tells him about her and gives him the phone number of Buffy. The night before, Angel speaks with Buffy on the phone, tells him to Connor and she promises to always protect the son of Angel ..but then, surprisingly, Buffy comes in the midst of the battle and she can see Angel which becomes Shanshu.

My story ends here 🙂 ..and Happily Ever After? oh yeah!
..and the comics season 8/9? Well, I have yet to decide whether to include it or not in my personal canon.

In the final battle at the Hellmouth in Chosen, Buffy gets stabbed through the gut with a sword... a wound that should have killed her or at least completely disabled her. Yet a few minutes later she's completely recovered and running across rooftops and jumping down on the school bus.

I think this is because the Scythe spell that "Slayerized" all the Potentials also temporarily super-charged the powers of the existing Slayers (Buffy and Faith). So, Buffy's usual ability to heal quickly got amped up into a Wolverine-like regeneration ability, at least for those few minutes.

I remember reading a Buffy/Firefly crossover series where the spell essentially made Buffy and Faith immortal. I forgot to put that in my post, since I really like that idea.

The 'Tales of the Slayers' COMICS puts her at MUCH older than 18, and there's no mention of Robin the story. It came out long before S9, which is where I originally got my head canon from. Like I said to white avenger in the other thread, I consider the story we're shown in 'Nikki Goes Down' to be the night of Robin's conception, because I find it hard to believe that a mother would spend so long away from her child for so long without mentioning him, if only to herself, or calling to check in on him, esecpially if Robin's so young.

But then again, there's also the 'Tales of the Slayer' NOVELS which shows Nikki going through her Crucimentium, and her Watcher finding out from one of her friends that she's pregnant and then worrying about the drugs he's been putting in her system.

The novel seems to line up more with what we saw in S9, but, like I said, I read the other comic first and that's what sticks in my head.

I think Joss confirmed that was the case, although I can't find where. It's why Halfrek recognized Spike in "Older and Far Away" and called him William.

I've had arguments with people saying that Cecily was the original human and that she didn't turn into Halfrek until after the events with William. Personally, I think this goes against the actual canon of the show, but then again, like I said, I'm not going to judge someone on what they think - even if I think it is in direct correlation to what we're shown/told.

Other head canons I have

I don't think Buffy and Spike had sex when she went down to the basement to be with him in 'Chosen'. I think they just slept.

I think River Tam is a Slayer but there is nothing left of the old organization to identify her as such, so she's left floundering on her own because she doesn't know what's wrong with her.

I believe that Dawn is Angel and Buffy's biological daughter, taken out of an alternate timeline in which Angel didn't have the day swallowed and Buffy got pregnant because they were both too lust-fueled to think about protection.

I don't think Buffy is that last Slayer we see being sucked into the portal at the start of the 'Fray' comic.

Anything that deals with other Slayers before Buffy, Kendra and Faith I consider to be canon. So the 'Tales' comics and novels are all canon to me, as well as 'The Book of Fours' and 'Pretty Maids'. (though I can't see to come up with a good reason as to why Spike doesn't remember killing Sophie, the Slayer, lol)

The Slayer Anna from 'The Lost Slayer' is the pink haired Potential we see getting ganked at the start of S7.

EffyStonem 's theory about Darla being a Slayer got me thinking about Drusilla. She had visions, could sense danger, knew that Darla and Angelus were vampires without anyone telling her. Slayer? It would also make sense as to why Dru went crazy when she was turned. Angelus tortured her, yes, but her madness far surpasses that. Dru being a Slayer would explain her madness, the soul of her Slayer self warring against the soul of the demon inside her.

I'm not sure if these fit here but I have a few missing canons from my head. Maybe some folks can help out?

Why Wesley went to holtz about "the father will kill the son" thing.... I'm thinking maybe he did try to call Cordy maybe a few times but couldn't reach her and out of desperation went to holtz....

Why willow went to the Wicca group she met her freshman year of college (the "wanna blessed bes" who mocked her for suggesting they try spells - in s7 "the killer in me". Makes much more sense to me that she would have tried to contact the coven in England that Giles hooked her up with over the summer between seasons 6 and 7. The ones who helped her realize that magick in and of itself is neither good or bad bit it becomes so in how one uses it.... After all, for all we know she had no idea the college Wiccan group was practicing magick. So maybe somehow she was keeping tabs on them?

I always thought that Li might have been Robin's father, too. I just re-read "Nikki Goes Down" and there's nothing in it that directly contradicts season 9. Nikki looks older than 18, but she does in season 9 too, so I guess it's just because she had to grow up fast.

But then again, there's also the 'Tales of the Slayer' NOVELS which shows Nikki going through her Crucimentium, and her Watcher finding out from one of her friends that she's pregnant and then worrying about the drugs he's been putting in her system.

That's exactly the situation we see in the season 9 comics. (Nikki going through her Cruciamentum while pregnant, and her Watcher being worried.)

Another bit of my HeadCanon is that Halfrek was the first Vengeance Demon that D'Hoffryn created when he came to this world in the 1st century BC. I have a whole story plotted out about that which I should probably try to write one of these days.

I think River Tam is a Slayer but there is nothing left of the old organization to identify her as such, so she's left floundering on her own because she doesn't know what's wrong with her.

It would have been cool if the Alliance had done the same thing to River that the Shadowmen did to Sineya, only with technology instead of magic.

As much fun as Firefly and Buffy could be in the same universe, Joss seems to be against it now. I saw something once where Georges Jeanty drew a cover for one of the comics showing Buffy wearing a Blue Sun shirt, and Joss's response was basically "Ha, funny. Never do that again."
