I have just gained a new member to our home.... A male cat currently called Dodo (as in the extinct bird!). He had a traumatic entrance to our home but is settling well so far. I'm not keen on his name so will possibly change it, although I'm unsure as to what at the moment. The contenders so far are; Blade, Jet, Ninja and Kit. He is 10/11 months old and is half Siamese. So far he is a loveable, stealthy, ninja cat!!

What are they like personality wise?

Name him Dog.. I have always wanted to name a cat Dog. That would be the coolest thing.

It's often considered bad luck to change a pet's name, but with a cat it doesn't really matter all that much. They usually won't pay attention to you anyhow, unless it's mealtime.

At the present, we're hosting two orphans, a Boston Bull Terrier mix, rescued from the local pound, and a giant mutt who some low life scum left abandoned in the bed of my pickup truck (honestly!) when he was barely able to eat solid food, and now weighs well in excess of 110 pounds. all solid muscle.

The only time in my entire life that I have not shared my residence with some description of dog was the 4 years that I was in the Navy, I have loved them all, and I like to believe that they have returned some amount of affection for myself and my family. That includes big dogs and little dogs of just about every breed and combination that could be imagined, and I couldn't imagine my life without them.

But, sorry, no pictures.

It breaks my heart when people maltreat animals like that. But at least the dog found an orphanage with you!
We have a family kitty at home. (I can't have a cat since I'm currently living in a dorm) Her name is Shyra and she's a BEAUTIFUL tortie. Her base coat is black and she has these speckles of gold that make her sort of shimmer in the right type of light.

For some reason, she likes to narrow her left eye a little more than her right, making it look like she's giving you the stink eye or something. Complemented with the right expression, she'll look downright grumpy. But she's still so cute and I could never imagine my life without her! (We rescued her when she was a kitten, and she's ten right now)

I'll try to upload a picture later. I'm on the wrong computer to do so right now.
 
I love Siamese! Your boy is super cute! I kind of like the name Dodo though 😛 and as a side note, in French it means sleep.

I also have a Siamese mix, she's a little tortie also, her name is Luna!

And of course my horse Bella! I'll see if I can dig up some pics.

I'm proud and happy to have the company of three cats, two of which were rescues/dropoffs. I live out in the country, so sometimes people who are unfit to have either a pet or a child, decide to drop off cats. This has happened all my life, and as a result, I've been pleased to help my fair share of cats back to health. Most we've later donated to a local farm, since they're always in need of them (mice and all). Still, I've kept three 🙂

Here they are, my pride and joy,😀

Both of them are former shelter dogs.

The black one's name is Fanja, that's the name she came with, and she is an incredibly smart grump 😉 Me and my sister bought her when she was 11 months old. She lived on the streets on her own until she was about 7 months old so to this day she tends to prefer digging for roots and nutricious soil over dog food. She is the brains of this unit, if it's quiet she is up to something... and it's never anything good. She also thinks the entire world is her best friend 🙂 Sadly she is sick right now and I really, really hope that she'll get better or my heart will break into smithereens.

The gray one to the right is Buffy. That was not her given name (which was Jolka) but we changed it the second she came and it didn't even take her a week to accept it. We actually had three different names to pick from and I allowed my kid brother to pick from those three (he went with Buffy because he's grown up watching me watch the show 😀)

We got her when she was 16 months old and when she came she was afraid of everything. I mean everything. People, dogs, paperbags, leaves... an intensely reactive dog who more or less tried to attack anyone or anything in sight. I'm her third home I think. We were told that she was destructive but she has never shown any sign of this while in my care. After a year and a half of working with her I'm happy to say that she is getting a lot better mentally speaking, her fears are fading as her trust grows. It's a bit of a slow process but she's worth it because she really is a lovely dog.
She is very special to me and I really hope, with some more time, to see her grow into an even happier and healthier dog.

Those are it for now but when Buffy is ready for a 'sibling' I'll probably take on another rescue that feels right for us.

Everyone has such cute pets. I'm more of a cat person. We have 2 cats, brother and sister. My roommate named them Castiel and Meg from Supernatural. And they pretty much fit their names. Cas is such a sweet kitty and Meg is a bad kitty who always getting into things. But they are both adorable and I love them no matter how much they might get on my nerves. lol

Castiel is such a cute name. Have a friend who named her cat that too! I really like cats but I'm allergic so I can't have them myself (also Buffy, my youngest pooch, is kind of of the opinion that there shouldn't you know be cats, like at all, in the world. 😉)

Gotta love pets named for fandoms. :P I wanted to start naming all of our pets after Buffy characters and my husband just gave me That Look when I suggested it...

Sydnee is actually my Step sister's but we took her in because she and her boyfriend had issues keeping her in their apartment. We aren't sure what kind of mix she is but we are pretty sure there is whippet somewhere in her.
Sam is a beagle mix and we are pretty sure with Coonhound. He was a shelter dog while Sydnee had been found by my step sister with her half dead litter in a box behind a dumpster. She took to a shelter where only two including Syd went on to survive.

The cat is Malfina AKA Turd. I don't have a photo of her right now.

It can work with a dog as well. Sam came to us as Buster but he didn't respond at all to it so we figured it hadn't been established and thus deemed it safe to change. I've never heard of it being bad luck but I don't believe in superstition.
With a cat it is easier though because while they DO learn to recognize their name (Malfina recognizes her name) and even their owner's voice they CHOOSE not to respond to either and don't really need to.

hihi say that to my cat. She was trained that when you'd call her name she would immediately come to you (we lived in the woods and she could go outside, but we brought her in at night, and no matter how far she was she'd come running as soon as she heard her name). She also learnt to go on walk with us, and knew commands like stay.

My dog though, now we like to say that he has selective hearing haha!

My comment was directed at the majority of the cat population, in fact Malfina used to accompany us on dog walks as well while she lived outdoors. She's moved back into the house now due to the cold and rainy weather. The dogs bug her but we make it work.
She also knows her name though she won't come to it as well as your cat apparently does, my step sister once said she'd responded to it however when she potted a little girl had trying to take her home some time ago (as I said she used to pretty much live outdoors).

'Selective hearing' is a good term for Sam actually, particularly with me.
 
I have a 9 months old german shepherd named Jekyll (I don't have any good picture on my computer so sorry about that).
I've always had pets. My brother and sister had rats and hamster and when I became older (as in 5 years old) I starting asking for my own so the parents switched to having a dog.
I grew up with a beautiful Griffon Vendéen (really rare breed) named Livia. She was the best. She died in 2008.

Then we got a german shepherd named Eyka, who died just a year ago. She was four and I'm still not over her death, and I'm having a hard time connecting with my parents' dog because of that.

My father wanted a new one pretty much right away so we got Jekyll. He's beautiful, witty, a bit of a smart ass. All in all he's a great dog, but it's just not the same (it never is) and I don't feel like he's mine and I'm his.

I'm really an animal person, I find a house empty without them. Everybody in our family has dog or cats.
We have/had tortoises, birds, rats, hamsters, furets, cats...
When family visits it becomes a circus around here!


PS: All of your pets are so cuuuute!
