If I remember correctly, it was along the lines of: "OH MY FREAKING GOD? WHAT THE HECK JUST HAPPENED!!! Jenny's dead??????????????????????????"

Well, I was quite tense for the whole Angel/Jenny scene and when he did catch up with her I was really shocked that he'd actually killed someone who was a next-to-main character. BUT the scene that got the most visceral reaction for me was when Giles arrives home and he finds the rose and message on the table and smiles; Mum and I were practically crying before he even reached the room and I remember Mum saying 'Oh god, she didn't write that'. And it was so perfectly executed that scene as he walks up the stairs. It was a scene that really stuck with me at the time and I couldn't stop thinking about it.
On a slightly lighter note I did love when Giles does get some punches in on Angelus. I was like 'Yeah take that you ba-"

I remember being shocked that Angelus could actually kill someone who was so close to be a regular on the show. I thought that Buffy was going to come in at the last possible second and save Jenny, but as we all know, that didn't happen 🙁
Ugh, I was soooo sure Jenny would've been rescued or something, I did not expect her to die, and just when things were looking up for her. ;O;
By the time Giles saw her on the bed with all the roses, I was pretty much destroyed. I couldn't deal with his/Willow's/Buffy's reactions
I was rooting so hard for Giles when he attacked Angelus. Well, half rooting, half panicking that Giles would die as well.

Well, the promos leading up to the episode made it clear someone was going to die. I kept thinking, for some reason, though, that it was going to be Cordelia... However the moment Angel showed up in the back of the dark classroom, my heart sank.
I LOVED Jenny, and I was so sad and shocked at how Angel killed her. He didn't even drink from her; that's like the ultimate "You're beneath me" for vampires, right?? I cried like a baby when Giles found her body, and again at the scene where he collapses in the alley behind the factory... I was heartbroken.

My favorite episode of BTVS. I've only ever seen the series on DVD, I didn't watch it when it originally aired, so I didn't have any knowledge of the promos or anything like that. I remember the scene where Angel shows up and smashes the computer. The fire silhouetted against his face made him look so awesome. And that chase scene through the school was beyond intense.
I kept expecting Buffy, Giles, someone, anyone to show up and save Jenny, but it never happened. And when he snapped her neck I was shocked. I've watched the commentary on the episode since and heard how the goal was to really raise the stakes of the season and Angelus, and to show that no one is safe. Mission accomplished.
And of course, Giles going buck and hunting Angel down at the factory was beyond cool.

Joss joked that it had three purposes (I will be paraphrasing):
1) Make it clear that Angelus is truly evil and irredeemable.
2) Show the audience that (essentially) main characters can die
3) Warn the actors that, if he didn't like them, he could get rid of them
As for my reaction, I don't know how to type it out. It's the kind of shocked noise you make with your mouth wide open and slowly exhaling air -- I hope I described that well enough to get the point across, but yeah, that was how I reacted. Just... shocked that they did that. I also barely remember what happens next in the episode, which is really weird -- I pretty much remember Angelus snapping Jenny's neck, him watching Willow and Buffy through the window, and then his voiceover at the end (which I don't like because I just hate voiceovers in general). Whenever people mention the stuff that Giles was involved in, I have to remind myself "Yeah, that happened" -- I'm not sure why.

I cried and was shocked and upset. I was not expecting the end she had and the torture Giles received also..
I still remember the first time seeing this episode, even though it was 15 years ago. I was completely shocked. I thought for sure Jenny would make it out okay. Then when Giles found her dead in his bed, my heart was practically beating out of my chest, and I was crying throughout the rest of the episode. Especially with Buffy and Willow's reactions.

Haha, I love that. What better way to put the fear of God in your actors but to have one of them killed off by a vampire.

I knew that Giles and the others who were in the credits were safe from death (Excpet from the finale, as proven with Angel, because the actors were paid to appear in the whole season, so I knew they wouldn't die). Recurring charcaters like Joyce, Oz, Jenny, Spike, and Drusilla at that time weren't safe, so I was actually more worried for Jenny than Giles.

The second Angelus killed Jenny, that was when I lost all and complete respect for Angel/Angelus, and I've never liked him ever since. I just don't like him. Even as Angel, nope, sorry.
And then I cried like a baby when Willow found out and I screamed at the television in disgust whenever Angel's face appeared or his voice-over happened, and I cried some more when Giles and Buffy cried into each others arms.

I was like 12 and I just remember being upset because I thought Angel was never coming back now. And I was all "how are they ever ganna find that disk between the desks" Yea that was my main concern watching it then. Now when I watch it as an adult Im all emotional watching Giles find her and Buffy and Willows reactions. And everytime he snaps her neck I always jump even though I know its coming. Poor Jenny.

Well, I actually can't remember much from seeing it for the first time. But, to me, Giles finding Jenny's body is the most shocking moment of the whole show. My heart is always pounding like crazy during that scene, so it's very likely that it was the same the first time I have watched it. And I think Willow's reaction to the phone call brought tears to my eyes.

Well I can answer this question easily. I loved it. Best episode of Season 2.
But to answer the more interesting question, "What was your reaction seeing Angelus hunt and kill Jenny?"... It blew my mind. I was a tard and watched seasons out of place, but I was never spoiled on Jenny dying. I really had no idea Angelus was going to find her and stop the spell from ever happening. And I hadn't even considered that Angelus might kill a main character before the finale. All of this, coupled with the entire "hunt," the snapping of Jenny's neck, and Giles' apartment... Really chilling stuff. When Buffy and Willow get the phone call I remember thinking, "this is the best episode I've seen so far." (Well besides OMWF...)

I was immensely fond of Jenny. Her budding relationship with the usually monastic Giles was very touching, and her murder was almost as tough to watch as the death of Joyce some time later. I was, and still am, more than a little displeased at Joss for such wanton obliteration of romance.
Also, Giles' reaction, IMHO, should have been much more pronounced and was not played-up as greatly as it should have.

I still think it's the best episode and best overall season of the series. Angelus embodies pure evil. To the core.
The line where he says "two birds with one stone" then turns with vampface and says " and teacher makes three" one of my favorite lines. ..(other than the Judge saying "...what's that do?" Lol)... Then the grace of snapping her neck. The care and detail he took in setting up Jenny in Giles' house. And then physically torturing Giles later. Willow having to pull her fish out of the envelope and us looking at them through the aquarium. Telling Joyce that he had sex with her daughter. Sending Buffy a bouquet of roses. No poison, no snakes jumping out, no dead roses. A beautiful bouquet with a note that read "soon". Absolute genius. Writing "was it good for you" on the wall in blood. And the smile on his face when he saw all their reactions to Jenny's death.
And let's not forget the pictures he sketched. Lol letting Buffy know that he was in her room long enough to sketch her, having all the time in the world to kill her but "choosing" not to.
That whole story arc was written, directed and acted to perfection.

It was personally one of my favorite episodes. In general it was probably one of the 'darker' episodes of Buffy. The general theme of it though was enough to grab attention, especially Angel going through the verses of 'Passion' through the episode. I liked it though because it was very unexpected, I don't think anyone at the time would have imagined Jenny going out like that.
