Your significant other

I think a lot of girls want a protective boyfriend. I think thats why so many girls choose Edward over Jacob when it can clearly be argued that Jacob was the "healthier" choice. The same with Riley over Angel or Spike. They want the bigger person, not the equal.

Jake is also protective, but not overprotective, and he's funnier! *Jake is wayyy better than Ed*

I must admit, I love to be treated like a princess but I don't want to be a mistress in danger!

Its interesting to me that more people are leaning toward Riley as the most realistic or most like their own relationships yet Buffy/Riley is not a very popular `ship. Why is that?

Because Buffy clearly belongs with Angel. Duh! 😛 😉

Also, Riley and Sam are the cutest couple in Cutonia. You would have to have a heart of stone to want to tear them apart.

Well, for Buffy, the equal was Angel. Any other boyfriend she had remained her subordinate. As alpha as Riley was, he wasn't superhuman. That's why to us mere mortals he is THE choice.

I really don't agree. On paper, it's sweet to have a protective boyfriend, but as it turns out most of them are control freaks. The word protective has another meaning when it comes to describing personality.

Spike. I was with someone who was mysterious, broody and emotional (like Angel), that got annoying quite quickly. I'd much rather someone with a good sense of humour who I'd be able to banter with, Spike fits the bill quite nicely. Anyone but Riley though, he's too overtly macho.

I know he's not an option in this thread, but I'd want Wesley. He's smart, sweet, likes books, but can also be manly and protective if needed. Otherwise, I'd choose Spike. Same reasons. Underneath that punk, badass exterior is an sweet, awkward poet. 😀 I don't think I'd say no to Angel, though.

I agree about Wesley, I wouldn't say no :p
My dating life according to Buffy, lol! 😀

Angel: The first guy I really liked was one of my best friends in high school. Yet it was more like Cangel rather than Bangel because we never actually dated. I knew he still liked me even when he dated some other girl. Oh well. Yet, I wouldn't want to end up with someone like Angel. Being around people who are too broody drain me out.

Parker: Met a guy like him in college. Seemed sweet and we talked a lot one night. Shared a kiss but nothing more. I thought it may turn into something but he never called me.

Riley: Met another guy like him in college and he was also in the military. We went on a couple of dates, I opened up to him about things I really hadn't with any other guy. But like Riley, he turned out to have a huge ego and wanted something I wasn't ready to commit to. I hate being put on a time table with relationships. I don't see myself ending up with someone like that.

Spike: I tend to fall for the bad boys but those that have good hearts. I would like to end up with someone like Spike (mainly s7 Spike). Loving and loyal, but still has an edge. 🙂

So wrong on my levels 😉 At least for this mere mortal, lol!!! 😀

I meant the actual characters, not the type lol
I'm not sure what you mean by that. Can you explain?

Bigger probably wasnt the best word. I meant to imply that they desire people who are more than they are. They like someone smarter, more talented, more successful, etc. In Buffy's case, it was someone who was more violent, more ruthless, etc and Riley wasnt those things.

When you say more you imply to someone who is more (all those things) then the woman they're dating. Like woman want to date smarter, better looking etc. man.. someone who is better then them?

I don't think that's the case. Buffy wanted someone who's on her level. Riley wasn't. She was fine with it until he started caring about those things. Buffy never wanted to be more, she wanted someone who will be the same as she was.. so they can fit perfectly. I guess, she didn't find that with any of her boyfriends because in the end she always ended up saving them.

I've never had a boyfriend either but as far as each of Buffy's:

Angel: I'd totally date a guy like him.
Scott: Yeah. He was really sweet and funny, which I like in a guy. But, then he turned into a bit of jerk... but still.
Parker: Uh, no. I'm pretty sure I'd be able to see through the BS, lol.
Riley: Ew. No way! 😛
Spike: Yes, yes, and yes! 😀 This is my type to a T 🙂

I guess I would say my fiance' is closets to Spike(Weird cause I am a total puppy for Angel, lmao). My fiance's got that bad boy thing going on, dresses all in black, and thinks he big stuff. Plus me and my friend talk about this all the time, he'd make a hott vampire.(I'm begging him to dress like Angel for halloween *fingers crossed*).

Other than him i have had a few other boyfriends in my life. Again one other resembled Spike, and my first boyfriend he realy didn't resemble anyone in buffy's life but he was more of an oz..quiet, and smart.

So there's my boyfriend reseblance to buffy's boyfriends 🙂

Thinking about it in more detail...

Angel: I wouldn't want someone with 200 years of psychic baggage as a lover. I mean the guy is complex, smart, funny but in a subtle way, noble etc and as a character he's a marvel, but I wouldn't want to go out with someone like that.

Riley: The closest thing to what I'd want but I wouldn't want to date anyone in a military (well, I wouldn't want anyone who actively fights evil) but aside from that I wouldn't have taken someone like him for granted.

Spike: Maybe...I'd probably date someone like Spike from 'Shells' onwards. I don't like the whole "I'm going to change for you" thing.

All this aside, as I said, I haven't dated anyone like them, because, you know, why would I?

I think my boyfriend is a bit like Riley -normal, kind, bit of a nagger. Can be a bit too opinionated on occations.

Nothing wrong with kind men, though it would be nice if a man had more adventurous side, like Spike (who I would soo date 😛).

My Fiance' is most like Giles. She's very correct most of the time and when she's not she has a very good reason she isn't!
She LOVES books and reads The Lord of the Rings every year like clock-work.
She's alway's correcting my grammar.
My parents stood up at her parents wedding so I've known her all of my life and hers.

I know Giles wasn't one of Buffy's "great Loves" but she did "Love" him and he was technically around a lot longer than any of the other guy's she dated and undoubtedly knew her better than all of them put together! 🙂
