I loved this guy and his look.
It's about time the real deal came to town instead of these yahoos like Harmony.
However, his best part is when he tries to reform from the mist at the end and you hear Buffy, "I'm standing right here" and the mist scampers off and disappears.
Of course his meeting with Xander near the beginning (with Xander's Sesame street accent) is just classic stuff.
Drac isn't one for humor is he?
 
I'm not sure what to think of Dracula. I was kinda hoping that Dracula would be some BIG intimidating villian like Glory or The First but all he did was perform some gypsy tricks on The Scoobs. I think he could have been a lot better.

BTW: That part where Buffy says "I'm standing right here" is one of my favorite moments in the series. It is hilarious.
 
I thought this episode had its good points but I wasn't really that fond of Dracula really. He seemed like just some fancied up vampire to me....I dunno...didn't really like him.

I thought it was hilarious though how Spike was like, "He owes me $10" or something like that....haha... :tongue:
 
A little bit of trivia for this episode and Drac in particular.

The actor who played him, Rudolf Martin, had previously worked with Sarah on the soap All My Children. Apparently the characters they played started out as lovers but later became enemies.
 
I love Drac's voice, but not so much his appearance. I would've gone a little older and less Eurotrashy, but overall his voice wins me over.

Drac's "You are strange and off-putting" (to Xander) is one of my favorite lines of the series.
 
Random, nitpicky, and directionless rant begins now.....

I believe they totally bungled the whole Dracula thing. I didn't really enjoy it at all.

Here they had the famous, most written about and most feared vampire of legend....able to do things very few (if at all) vampires can do, and they put him in a rather silly, throwaway filler episode. A vampire like *him* is a season Big Bad, not an episode.

To me, the writers just didn't seem to want to take the subject material seriously enough. How do you have a vamp in there that can shapeshift, manipulate minds much in the way the older vampires do...and most importantly is the only existing vampire that has the ability to come back from being staked, and not explain how the hell he is able to do these things?

"I've seen all your movies....you always come back." Oh yeah, good explanation there. A dangerous, virtually unkillable vampire of his stature shouldn't be beneath notice. Heck, everyone in that universe seem more afraid of Angelus and Spike than the even more vicious and powerful Dracula.

And cosmetically speaking, he was very unappealing....with those oversized fangs that noticeably puffed out his upper lip area. It looked like they simply shoved a set of cheap plastic toy store fangs into his mouth, and hoped nobody would notice. I'm surprised his speech wasn't impaired, speaking in a Daffy Duck lisp that made him say "th" sounds in place of an "S".

Also, his facial makeup looked ridiculous, like some circus clown yelled "MAKEUP!!" then slammed his face with an oversized powder puff.

I'm sorry, but they really could have done a LOT better with the Dracula character.

I'm with OM. I don't know that much about the whole Dracula thing, but Dracula on BtVS... I hated him. Gah. I think he looked/acted so silly, and the fact that everyone thought he was so handsome and cool and stuff.. just didn't make sense to me 'cause of the way he was. Really really not one of my favourite villains or episodes. (Only good thing about it is some great Xander lines, eheh.)
 
yeah i so agree with you...Dracula was one of the weakest villians on Buffy...just one ep. for him...I thought dracula was more powerfull you know like the Master...cause actually all the vampire thing started with that Vlad Dracul" guy from Romania. That episode made him look like just some vampire, but not THE vampire
 
While I agree with what was said about Drac, I think it might have been a little tacky to use Dracula as a bad guy, I mean it has been done over and over (Not that Buffy wouldn't have put their own spin on it) It would just seem like a very easy answer, Vampire Slayer fights Dracula, instead of all the original Bad guys they had? Anyone get what I'm saying?

It was a very cheesy episode, the explanations we're a bit weak, but i liked it.
Dracula could never have been a season bad guy, cause even with the Whedon spin, we've heard it ALL before. Same goes for the explanations, why bog down a simple light start to a dark season with stuff we have seen, heard and read many many times over. You want a truly intense Dracula Story, go back to the classics, but this piece of fodder, was simply a small homage to the most famous Vampire ever.

I tend to agree. I kind of thought Dracula would look older. Maybe it's because Bela Lugosi in the ancient Dracula movie kind of defined that role for me.
 
There was a movie called Dracula 2000 and Drac was played by a guy named Gerard Butler.
Not overly old, but still much better than this guy was overall.

I guess Buffy's writers figured "don't worry if our Dracula looks lame, he's only here for one episode"
 
I always hated the ending with Dracula. So, apperantly he cannot be staked, and we saw him reappearing with Buffy's voice in the background... so why didn't he come back? It's just strange, as said before, he's the only vamp who cannot be staked, and we didn't get any explanation or hear about him ever again.

He was kinda lame, I suppose for "The Vampire" of all time.

Heck, even the "Blade III" Dracula was better than this guy...and HE was lame too!
I agree that he shouldn't have been a Big Bad. Like some of you said, that has been done before. But I do think that for that one episode he was in, he should have at least been as threatening as a big bad. I think that he should at least have gotten a little more backstory.
 
I don't know, I kind of liked Dracula in the Buffyverse...He was a like a rockstar coming to town to them.
And just because Dracula is The vampire in all the dracula-related stories, does not mean that he has to be in Buffy, why not make him the totally blown out of proportion attention-hungry with bag of tricks vampire... I say it was a very original way to deal with Dracula... but oc that's just me!

the idea of havin dracular in was cool....but as sexy vamps go....he wasnt a great one for him, not a very good judge myself but spike and angel???
 
Buffy vs. Dracula is one of my favorite episodes. I loved the whole look of Dracula and they whole accent. It was great. It is one of my favorite lines said by Buffy....

Dracula: I assumed you knew. I am Dracula.
Buffy: "Get out!"

I love the way she said it!
 
I think Dracula was a good villain and do you wanna know why? He had the ability of mind control which no other vampires had.

Am I right or did another vamp have mind control? I know Spike doesn't...and Angel sure didn't, the master didn't either.

It was a close thing though, Dracula would have beaten Buffy if she didn't suck his blood but it was Drac's fault, he made her...he told her to and she did, which made her get out of his thrall.

But he's powerful because of the mind control, look how easily he got Xander.

It would be soooooooo cool if Spike had mind control like Dracula.
