Your top 5 Deaths in the Buffyverse & why

In no particular order...

Spike in 'Chosen' (I hadn't known he would be revived in AtS. Anyway, it was amazing, him dying a champion and I absolutely love his 'No, you don't, but thanks for saying it'. I don't know why I love it, but it's just so tragic and beautiful to me.)

Fred in 'A Hole in the World' (obvious choice!)

Buffy in 'The Gift' (I think this was the first thing that actually made me tear up. And I seriously never ever tear. Ever. I'm like the stoic-est person ever.)

Darla in 'Lullaby'
(I thought Darla was kind of cool, but only in an offhand way. But that was before her incredible sacrifice.)

Cordelia in 'You're Welcome'.
(Oh god. This was just... wow.)

Sorry, Tara doesn't make the list because she didn't really interest me... Neither does Angel in 'Becoming', because I was glad to be rid of him.

Honourable mentions to Anya, because I absolutely loved her quick, brutal end, and Wesley, because he was too awesome to die. Aaand Doyle, because he didn't deserve to die so early in the series and I loved his character and relationship with Cordy.

Gah, Joss just has too many deaths in the series.

In couldn't do a top 5, so I did one for Buffy and one for Angel

Buffy

1 - Jenny - My favourite episode, and a real turning point in the show
2 - Tara - Her and Willow just got back to together, and it was such a quick unexpected death
3 - Buffy - both times Buffy gave up her life willingly to stop Hell on Earth
4 - Joyce - another big changing point in the story and so real
5 - Not sure who to put here, either Anya or Kendra, Anya because it showed that not everyone was going to survive and Kendra because it show just how powerful Drusilla really was

*I would have put Angel in but as he didn't die, just got sent to Hell, I didn't count it as a death

Angel

1 - Doyle - Hero was an amazing episode, I love it but it's so sad
2 - Cordelia - My favourite character dies, but again a great way of doing it
3 - Fred - such a horrible death
4 - Wesley - he goes out fighting
5 - Darla - I love how she just accepts that she is going to die a human death when Drusilla comes in

D
dexeded
-facepalm- I forgot about Jenny. And Joyce. I blame Joss for killing off too many characters.
1. Buffy in The Gift - the scene was so beautiful, and so heartbreaking at the same time. The music also adds to the emotion.
2. Jenny in Passion- a total shock following the best chase scene in the whole of the Buffyverse - so exciting to watch but the death and consequent reactions from the characters are heartbreaking
3. Joyce in The Body - I cry all the way through this episode - superbly done and so moving. The silence is agonizing.
4. Angel in Becoming Part II - A big moment for Buffy preceded by the "close your eyes" moment and Beck's love theme.
5. = Darla in Lullaby/ Tara in Seeing Red - Both huge emotional moments.

** Honourable mention goes to Ben in The Gift, not because of any emotional attachment to the character just because of Giles’s speech and the feeling I get when watching this **

1. Jenny. The first real death of a reoccuring character. I don't count Jesse. That was just so beautifully and shockly done.
2. Fred. Poor, poor Fred.
3. Joyce. It was just sort of dumped on you right there. You see her in the background and start to go, "Oh, God.... Oh, my God... No! NO!"
4. Amanda. Nobody seems to like Season Seven, but I really do. And I always thought that Amanda was quite nice and cute.
5. Wesley. Oh, that was just sad.

Agree with your Jenny comments. It really shocked me.
I'm not including Tara and Anya because their deaths didnt touch me they devastated me and I hated them. If it were a list of the saddest deaths though theyd be at the top.

1. Cordelia in You're Welcome
2. Buffy in The Gift
3. Joyce in The Body
4. Darla in Lullaby
5. Spike in Chosen/Wesley in Not Fade Away

Oh boy! 5 huh? Well, I'll try....

- Wesley
- Fred

(I found both of their deaths extremely sad and beautiful... and I loved that they were together in both cases - I do believe that in the moments of wesley dying, that illyria truly did become fred - or however it was - fred was there) They truly loved each other and they were there at the very last moment. I love that so much!!!

- Anya (that was completely sudden and unexpected - and she was just beginning to understand what it was to be human)

- Jonathan (and just when he was able to let go of the worry about other people liking him and just love others - that's a beautiful thing really!)

- Tara (again, sudden and unexpected - "your shirt." and heartbreaking!!! And once again, just when she had found some happiness)

And also

-Cordelia (and this isn't 6 really it's um... a bonus one)
(I was so so so so so so happy to see her again in you're welcome! and then, when she and angel kissed I was like, YES finally!!!! now they can be together.... I went from flying to crashing in an instant.)

having said all this, I would say that the single most touching reaction to a death was buffy in the body when she runs to giles and says "we aren't supposed to touch the body!"

5. Joyce in The Body
It's a natural death of a very lovely and likable character, which makes this death even harder for the other characters, because there's nothing they can do about it.

4. Spike in Chosen
Spike's one of the main characters and I think it's always dramatic when a main character dies. He saves the world by giving his life, which is very heroic and adds to the drama-factor.

3. Tara in Seeing Red
Her death comes really out of the blue. When I first watched Seeing Red I couldn't really believe that it just really happened. She got shot. Just like that.
Tara's death also leads the story in an entirely different direction and is responsible for my favorite season finale.

2. Buffy in The Gift
I like this one because it's the death of the main character of all main characters. The music is also totally awesome.

1. Jenny in Passion
Passion is one of my favorite episodes. It's so dramatic when Giles finds her in his bed.
Even though I've seen the episode many times, I get nervous every time Giles walks up the stairs and is about to find Jenny.
Her death also leads to many great scenes like the phone call that's watched by Angel from outside or the Buffy/Giles moment after Giles tried to kill Angel.

1. Fred in "A Hole in the World" - How this is not on everybody's lists amazes me

2. Doyle in "Hero" - Very unexpected and really sad to see a great character go so soon...and he actually stays dead! WTF!

3. Jenny in "Passion" - Amazing episode, but even better because the scene is genuinely terrifying and unexpected

4. Wesley in "Not Fade Away" - One of the best Buffyverse character, when he died and Illyria turned into Fred...wow

5. Ben in "The Gift" - One of the rare badass Giles moments, this one is probably the most awesome

1.I was quite shocked when Jenny died because i thought that she and Giles would get together.
2.Tara
3.Anja
4.Joyce
5.Warren (I miss him as the evil guy)

1. Jonathan- Of course!
2. Tara
3. Buffy(The Gift)
4. Joyce
5. Molly- I know she was only there for like 5 episodes, but I really REALLY liked her character, and I was very disappointed when she was killed off.

I can't put an order to them but these are the five.

Joyce - me and my mom both cried from the "Mommy?" all the way to the end.

Buffy - I've seen this episode tons of times and it still moves me.

Fred - I feel so incredibly bad for Wesley and Fred when this happens. One day she is fine and finally! Wesley gets the girl . . . It's all the missed potential that makes it so sad.

Spike - He's Spike! Nuff said.

Anya - It was just so sudden and unexpected. I gasped!!!!!

1. Buffy in The Gift
2. Joyce in The Body
3. Tara in Seeing Red
4. Jenny in Passion
5. Angel in Becoming p. 2

Honorable Mentions: Doyle, Wesley, Fred, and Anya.
