End of 'Buffy' Only Makes Gellar Stronger

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) - Next week, Freddie Prinze Jr. and his wife, "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" star Sarah Michelle Gellar, are due to head to Vancouver, Canada, to start production on the "Scooby-Doo" sequel.

Work on the film immediately follows the end of production on "Buffy," which is shutting down after seven seasons -- five on The WB and the last two on UPN.

Without going into specifics, Prinze hints that the later seasons of "Buffy" may have been rough for his bride.

"A lot of people owe Sarah a lot for doing that show," Prinze says, "and she doesn't always get the credit she deserves. She's a very strong woman, because she deals with a lot of nonsense, and instead of that nonsense, she should be thanked -- and she's not. That's the reason she won't be coming back."

"Sarah's the most appreciative person in the world, and if that environment would have remained the way it would six years ago, she would go back, because she's loyal. But things change, and people's egos get in the way sometimes. They make poor decisions."

"I don't agree with it, but I understand it, and I just pray I'm never guilty of it."

Prinze asserts that, whatever happened, Gellar gave 100 percent. "And even if she's not, nobody knew, because she commits. She's badass."

The series finale of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" airs on UPN Tuesday, May 20, at 8 p.m. ET.

Hmm...I guess since Freddie isn't involved with the show in any way possible he's going to speak out more stridently than her. Still, you have to wonder if she would think he's doing her a favor by saying what he said.

I'm sorry but did that look like it was too much pressure from within the show or from an outside influence... I knew when she married that flousy things would go all wrong...

But maybe things were wrong within the Buffy camp but still they couldn't have been that bad if Joss was willing to give up when SMG did and vice versa... SMG has had nothing but good things to say about the show, sure these things maybe contractual type things to say but still, our love and devotion for Buffy The Vampire Slayer will not die because of a few words, the Buffyverse will continue over the net in Virtual seasons and the likes...

Buffy shall live in our hearts forever... 🙂

I;m not even quite sure if I believe that crap. There was that interview where she explained why she wanted to move on. I don't quite remember what it was, but you can never be to sure of what's true and what's not when it comes to celebrity gossip.

Why are we pointing fingers at SMG and critiquing her ego? We know absolutely nothing about the issue other than some second hand info from Freddie that there IS even an issue. At least she had the good taste not to air this private disagreement with the public.

So we have a rumor of a falling out between Joss and Sarah. Who's in the right? Who's in the wrong? We here, with our single peice of information have absolutely no clue whatsoever. So what are we trying to do; penalize her for the mere existance of a disagreement, the details of which we know nothing about? For shame.

Contrary to popular belief, the studio is not always right, and the actor is not always the money-grubbing, ungrateful retrobate that everyone seems to think. If Sarah was so disloyal to fans and studio, then why has she been doing a show for the last 7 years, paid at the absolute bottom of the scale for a leading role in a show of this following? And not just a marginally leading role. As has been demonstrated, without Sarah, there is no show. So why has she stuck with it for 7 years? I think we aren't giving her enough credit.

It really sucks that the show is coming to an end, but I would suggest that hating SMG for leaving isn't going to help matters. All it does is seperate the fans from the fairweather fans.

I totally agree with you. Even though we know that Freddie is on Sarah's side, it doesnt show us anything. Even if Sarah would have stayed on Buffy, it just seems like this is the perfect time to end it, even though we may want it to go on forever.
