Ok, seriously now. There was a lot of action in this issue but I wish we had more time for actual conversations. The impression I get from fandom is that we are all piecing everything together rather than actually having the situation spelt out for us. Maybe that is yet to come. I'd like to know more about the Twilight thing because what we have gotten hasn't been enough.
As for the Master situation, there is some serious explanation needed there. In the recent Allie interview he said that it had to be the Master, that he serves a specific purpose. I have no idea what that could be. I'm happy we're going back home though. I've missed the 'Dale.

I was glad to see Spike, but we didn't get much explanation about Twilight and stuff. The dog was funny though, and I'm getting a Whistler vibe from it. It could make sense since Whistler did show up in the Riley one-shot in Angel's flashback. Maybe it took a while from the flashback in this issue to the one in the last issue for him to be able to take his demon form as Whistler or something.
This issue felt short, though. I guess we'll get most of the action and stuff like that next issue.

It was very frenetically paced issue, wasn't it?
And yes the Buffy and Spike 'reunion' was a tad anti-climactic, especially on the first read through, which was kinda disappointing ... but when you read it again it is quite obvious that things are not as they should be.

I'm gonna talk about character interactions, and these are my initial thoughts, very incoherent and messy, I wrote this as I read the issue:
Buffy/Angel:
Angel is Buffy's only equal now on the strength level, fighting together for the safety of others and the world. It seems that Buffy likes it better when her partner is her equal; she enjoys the thrill of the fight as well as having someone by her side who enjoys it just as much. She and Angel are in sync with each other, literally flying together and kicking demon butts.
Angel's jealousy of Spike reveals itself, and he's acting like the 12 year old we saw in Chosen and most of AtS S5, and we saw when Buffy started dating Riley, and we saw when Buffy's friend Ford from LA showed up, and we saw after Buffy's Sexy Dance with Xander. So, that's Angel being his usual petty, jealous self.
Buffy gently tells Angel that Spike saved their lives the last time she'd seen him. That she does trust him. Unlike Angel, she doesn't trust him, but she can't help being in love with him. S1 touched on the illogicality of love. Buffy was supposed to fall in love with the human boy who brought her back to life, yet her heart beats for the dead man who couldn't breathe life into her.
Buffy also doesn't forget Angel's sacrifice. He gave her Twilight, wanted them there together, wanted peace and a life of eternal happiness, but decided to give it up and go back to the fight, the chaos, the pain. Buffy tells Angel that she understands "“because she herself wanted it, but not as much as Angel, and it was hard giving it up, and Angel doing that makes her proud of him.
Buffy acts more sympathetic towards Angel than she should, but perhaps that has something to do with the powers they have, the rewards, Twilight, their connection. Something pulls them together, they want it as well, and it's pushing them against their resistance, it's taking their choice even though they want it deep down. I think this force is taking what they want deep down and bringing it to the surface against their will.
Buffy's love for Angel and her forgiving nature are the reason she's giving him a second chance, like she did with all the people in her life in the past. She knows Angel can come back from this a better man, she's been in the mud herself "“though less muddy than Angel's- and she came back stronger than ever. She gives Angel a second chance for redemption, because that's who Buffy is, she forgives, she believes in others' ability to make a difference, to change, to become better. Not to mention it's also what Buffy needs: she knows deep down that she can't commit to him with all the mistakes he'd recently done. She needs his redemption as much as he does.
The lovey-dovey Bangel conversation is too over-the-top, reminds me of Xander's POV in The Zeppo, how he sees Bangel. This is actually the real Bangel on the inside brought to the outside, no barriers, no shields, naked for all to see, especially Buffy and Angel. It's not the time or place for that; they forget themselves when they're together, feelings and emotions bare, the hard façade they wear in front of others isn't there when they're together. And it's half of Twilight's doing.
Buffy asks Angel to go, because while she understands and forgives, the others don't and can't. And Angel can't blame them. What he had done was one of the biggest betrayals to them all. And he deserves to be sent away to the beginning point: the first episode of AtS S1.
About Buffy's "That's beneath you, baby," that's obviously Buffy being snarky to Angel's "Is that all you want from him?" Right now, Buffy is fed up with the pointless jealousy; she wants to fix their mess. Enough with Miss Nice Girl.
Buffy/Spike:
When Buffy goes into the ship, it's all about business. I'm sensing some hurt and anger on her part. Spike had come back years ago and never tried to contact her, she doesn't understand why, it shows in the way she glares at him, the way she grabs his shoulder and roughly turns him around. With a sarcastic raise of her eyebrow, she thanks him for saving their lives, and then talks about not contacting him because she was busy "“which can probably be a shot at him not contacting her because <i>he</i> was busy. She cuts him off when he wants to say you're welcome because she is obviously mad at him. She reminds him that they've got an apocalypse to take care of, doesn't wanna hear him joke or snark or use dirty British words she doesn't understand.
On the other hand, Spike is also hurt and angry "“not to mention disappointed at her- for having magical, space sex with Angel. He can't help but throw cheap remarks at her, and she calls him on it "Snark", and then Spike tells her that she can't trust Angel. I think at the same time, Spike also feels betrayed, hurt and let down by Angel. Seems all his idols "“if you'd call Angel one- sank so low.
Spike later pulls himself together and gets down to business, reminding Buffy of what she'd done, what she'd started, what her irresponsible actions caused. Buffy obviously looks ashamed, hugging herself, unable to look him in the eyes. Spike lays it all on her, doesn't choose his words carefully, so upset with her, and it all hurts Buffy: the damage she caused, Spike's disappointment in her, her friends' fear and wary. Her expression as she looks away from Spike, filled with sorrow and guilt, her eyes as she looks back at him: shocked, upset, teary. Guilt is tearing her apart.
Buffy is back. And Spike brought her back.
Xander/Spike:
The way Xander looks at Spike can be read as "I don't trust you" or "You better have useful info" or "you're so sexy I wanna kill myself." Spike is looking at someone and I want it to be Xander "“them having sexy, frowny eye contact is probably the only Spander moment I'll ever get in S8.
Willow/Buffy and Willow/Angel:
Willow is obviously so angry at Angel, yet she's sympathetic and comforting with Buffy. Angel's mistakes are greater than Buffy's, and also, Buffy is her best friend, Willow had been there through Buffy's pain and isolation "“didn't see Angel's. And this time it's not black and white, Willow can't blame Angel's insanity on his soul anymore. This is gray area, and Willow more than anyone knows what it's like to be insane. She's not gonna excuse Angel because she's been there.
Xander/Dawn:
They're adorable all right, but I can't wait until we explore this ship. The tension in the Buffy/Spike scene is far more fun and interesting IMO than the cuteness of Xander/Dawn "“I want issues, tension, serious talks. C'mon, Xander and Dawn, become interesting.

Unlike most people, I liked this issue. Even though it's pretty damn complex and difficult to follow. Buffy and Angel are somewhat in character and somewhat out of character. Spike's characterization on the other hand is dead-on. And as for the character/ship interaction
Buffy/Angel:More Bangel this issue. Buffy doesn't trust Angel anymore (Sigh) but loves him no matter what and sends him to save the remaining slayers. Buffy tells Angel he gave her perfection and tells him that she wants to spend her life with him
Buffy/Spike:Spuffy appears to be very much dead and buried in this issue. Both of them appear to be angry at one another and their reunion was very much anti-climatic. But understandable. I really hope Spike has moved on, hopefully with Illyria. However I do hope we seem a new level of close-friendship between these two, just no romance.
Willow/Angel:Their friendly relationship has faded. Willow does not trust Angel anymore and briefly turns him into a frog, this makes me sad. She's the one who's restored his soul on a couple of occasions. But I have faith that Angel will be redeemed in the eyes of all the Scoobies at the end of this crises.
Xander/Dawn:Very cute comforting moment between these two, even though I don't like Dander.
Skinless Warren/Amy:One word:CREEPY!
The Master:Is back. This was a major shock, I didn't expect to be seeing him anytime soon, and it looks like we found out what the Seed was. I'm hoping this is an earlier point in the timeline, like before Buffy killed him and crushed his bones, I don't want anymore resurrections.

I´m still trying to figure out where the bugs came from. Seriously? Talking bugs as the crew of his flying "timemachine"? I don´t get it. 😕
The master is now the big bad. I don´t know but it wasn´t really a surprise and it feels kinda strange. I always thought the master couldn´t be revived after Buffy smashed his Bones into dust and i think i remember a scene in the series where the first had the form of him. Maybe it´s really the first again.
Next question is. What´s the seed of wonder and the pink crystal ball at the end. Is the master now a fortuneteller?

It's my understanding that the story of how, when, and why Spike got his mysterious ship, plus where he got his information concerning Twilight and all things connected thereto will be explained in the forthcoming 8 (?) issue miniseries that IDW will be publishing as their final Angel Series project, which means that we won't have that full story until sometime AFTER Season 8 is officially over.

I haven't read it, but...So Spuffy is doomed? Poor Spike. Did he and Buffy even get that much interaction? Or was it mostly Bangel? Arrggh! I wish that space-sex had never happened! It's all too weird!
But, yeah, if no one minds me asking, what did happen with Spike? Not just with Buffy, but why did he turn up? what info did he have? etc. And also, did Buffy know or not know that he was alive?

Okay just so Spike fan's are not as worried, Spike did get some time, not as much as he should've. But he was very much in character which is more than what I can say for B. We still don't know why Spike showed up, how he has his crew of bugs, or what the submarine/tank does but since he's taking her to Sunnydale I'm gonna go ahead and say it's some kind of time machine. And yes there was some Bangel in there but not so much it took over the whole issue IMO.
I'm really, really "meh" about this issue. I didn't hate it, I also didn't like it. What I did hate was the pacing, there's no denying that, it was off, it didn't flow, even when it switched to present day. Spike's "prologue" just annoyed me. If you're not going to actually explain how he got the bug yellow submarine tank thing, don't spend page upon page hinting and suggesting in a really weird way. That space could have been used a lot better. I really hope the mini series clears some of it up, because it could be a really funny story. Angel's prologue was also weird, but ok-ish. I was really beginning to hate this issue and then, BOOM, The Master! Seriously, when Spike was doing that ominous narration thing, I went, "No, it couldn't be, no. NO. Nohmygodawesome!" That totally saved it for me, I may have done an Angel!clap of joy. I mean, I KNEW they were going back to Sunnydale but STILL. With The Master showing up, I feel the show has come full circle. Vampires as enemies were kind of shoved aside after Season 2, Buffy never really struggled with them anymore (aside from Sunday and Kakistos, but they were few and far between) and they were just there, so I think The Master making a comeback is really great. Not much left to say, I hope the next issue is better.

The issue was good. I loved the 'You got my heart' line, mwahahaha! BANGEL 😀 But what the hell was happening to Angel? Is that Jasmine talking through living things again? And there was still a lot of mysteries unexplained. But i'm glad to see that cheesy villain again! I hope Sunnydale is brought back again 😀

Personally - when I saw the Master - my first thought was "Pure Genius". As it was a twist that I hadn't been expecting. But are we 100% sure it's the Master - and not the First Evil appearing as the Master (remember it did that in "Lessons" - the season 7 opener).
The reason I say this - is that a very pissed off Buffy(but no where nearly as powerful)defeated the Master in Season 1, then she smashed his bones at the beginning of Season 2. If it was truely the Master - he would be just canon fodder for Buffy in her present condition. However - if the Master is either much more powerful, or incorporal then he could be a greater threat.
Also - I know Spike fans - who were harping on how Angel is unredemable now - won't like this. But in reading issue #36 - I get the feeling that ultimately that Angel's intentions are more noble and honorable than Spike's are. This issue definitely makes me question Spike intentions. And also wonder what's with the Bug Crew, and the "Bug One" Ship. What I fear is that Spike may have fallen back to dark side - in taking the group back to Sunnydale - and right in to "the Master's" waiting hands.

Spuffies, I really don't think you need to feel so down about this issue - re-read it a few times, it is really really good! Okay so the Buffy and Angel stuff was a bit hard to swallow - but I think that is because it was supposed to be; I mean, Buffy calls the day that she found out that Angel was her arch-nemisis, and the day they shagged destruction onto the world as the "weirdest, bestest, weirdest, best day of my life", she asks Angel if he'd rather Spike would had showed up a few hours earlier (because, then, sure, the end of the world could have been averted but then they would have missed out on the uber lovin'). Angel has the audacity to say he doesn't trust Spike and Buffy says that Angel 'has her heart' but not apparently her trust. Neither of them seem to be seeing the reality of the situation that they have created - all they see is one another. This is not our rational Buffy talking. This is not Buffy who usually ( or to be more accurate, always!) feels guilt accutely. I would contend that we're supposed to be suspicious.
And then Angel is sent away and Buffy goes to get the info from Spike and she's cold and short and she dismisses his sacrifice in Chosen as a 'crazy studly' stunt. But Spike has information and home truths - demons and destruction of the world are just part of the problem there is also the small issue of an abandoned baby universe to contend with . . .and do you see Buffy's body language change? She goes from being high as a kite on post-coital glow to realising exactly how serious this situation that she has co-created really is. Spike is not mean and nasty to her, he is real with her. He makes her see reality. Spike grounds her. Nothing to be sad about there.
And then Angel is sent away and Buffy goes to get the info from Spike and she's cold and short and she dismisses his sacrifice in Chosen as a 'crazy studly' stunt. Without having read the issue yet, thanks to the slowness of delivery from TFAW, and, of course, having no idea just how this arc is going to finally end, I might suggest that Buffy could have been exaggerating or outright lying about actually knowing about Spike's return. It might have been an attempt to cover up for the initial shock of actually learning that he WAS back, something like someone trying to cover up when someone scares them by saying, "I really knew you were there all the time, I just had other things on my mind, so I didn't say anything..." Granted, that might seem like a dedicated Scooby grasping at straws, but it is still possible. I still have a sneaking suspicion that some of what we're seeing at the moment is smoke and mirrors, possibly a result of what is making Buffy act so strangely about everything that is going on right now (Again, maybe grasping at straws, but I honestly think that the ongoing debate about Buffy's feelings for Spike and Angel is just too integral a part of the Buffy mythos to be settled this quickly and almost casually, Or, at least it SHOULD be)
Buffy's relationship with Spike in Season 7, whether she saw him as only a close friend or actually was in love with him was just too close for her to toss aside the way that she apparently has done. It's not impossible that whatever Power is manipulating both Angel and Buffy have completely blinded her to anything but its own master plan and agenda, namely pairing Buffy and Angel up to create and populate a new universe. The fact that Buffy doesn't seem to have totally succumbed to its influence could explain her being so less that caring about everyone else, not just Spike.
In the issue, Buffy is obviously angry at Spike. She glares at him, she holds his shoulder roughly, she raises an eyebrow at him. I think she's angry because he didn't come to her when he came back, and then when she knew he was back she didn't go to him. Why would she if he didn't care anymore?
