I'm so excited about this newest discussion. We are discussing "Doppelgangland" for the next week.

What are your favorite parts of the ep? Favorite quotes (there's a ton!) Did you see some foreshadowing with Willow in this episode?
 
I just wanted to be first. I´m on my way out so I´ll make a "better" post tonight. But I love love love this episode. Vamp Willow! :: red ::
 
I was more interested in the Faith/Mayor dynamic and Faith's being a mole in the Scooby gang. I did like the one scene where Buffy says (paraphrasing) a vampire is nothing like the human person- in regards to Willows gayness- and Angel says "well, actually... nevermind" The eating of the banana was a funny moment as well.

A perverse side of me would have liked to have seen Vamp Willow and Wolfie make out.

It´s cute to see how Willow Willow cares with Vamp Willow *_* All the faces and all the Willowness of the episode is charming! The real one pretending she´s the Vamp was funny and I think it was pretty cool to the actress to do it, a skanky and a fluffy one at the same time.

And I just LOVE the "Bored now..." from Vamp Willow, I´m always saying it xD

The gay thing was obviously a foreshadowing, Angel almost saying that people don´t change could be the "proof".
 
The thing that I liked the most about this episode is that, though Doppelganger-Buffy is the opposite, or pretty close to it of our own Slayer, they didn't try to turn her into Faith. There were differences. That's why I've always wanted to see just what Doppelganger-Faith would have been like in Joss' imagination. Several fan fictions deal with this, and some (like the one here) are quite good, but Faith is still Joss' and Eliza's baby.

actually you got the wrong episode.. Doppelgangland is when vamp Willow comes into the 'real' world
Love love love love love this episode. It is, in fact, on the short list of episodes I may show my classes that one day when we might not have anything to do (I've scheduled in a make-up day in case of snow). It's just wonderful. Aly's performance as four different people--Willow, Vamp!Willow, Willow-pretending-to-be-Vamp!Willow, and Vamp!Willow-sort-of-pretending-to-be-Willow--is amazing. Can you imagine how different it would have been if that lump from the unaired pilot had been playing Willow instead? Gasp, horror.

I just read an amazing review of this ep last night, and I didn't eveen know it was the next one to be discussed! (I know, I'm slow and can't count from 'The Zeppo'.)

One of my top ten scenes of the entire show, is when Buffy, Xander and Giles are mourning Willow, and she walks into the room and ses the sadness and saracastically says 'Geez, who died?' then realizing somone might have actually died, gets really worried.

Xander brandishing the cross and shaking it as if it doesn't work when Willow shows no effect.

Willow's little annoyed 'I'm not a vampire!'

Giles hugging Willow when he realizes she's actually alive.

And my absolute favorite part of the scene, when Buffy asks Giles if he cared to jump in with an explaination any time soon, and he replies that 'something very strange is obviously going on' And Xander's patient 'Can you belive the Watcher's Council let this guy go?' :lmao: cracks me up every single time.

Overall, I think everyone played a great part in this episode, but no one more so than Alyson. She was completley brillieant as all four incarnations of the character, and the way she interacted with herself was priceless.

I thought it was very sweet when Vamp!Willow and Regular!Willow bonded about this world not being much fun. It was completely in-charcter for Willow to not want to kill her evil twin, deciding instead on returning her to her own dimension where she can meet her own feat, whatever that held. (Although, maybe she would have thought differently had she known that Vamp!Willow's feat was to be staked by Oz.)

I loved everyone's reactions to finding out Willow wasn't dead, especially Angel. And Devon when Vamp!Willow first walked into the Bronze was hilarious.

I love this episode so much, but I've always wondered how it would have played out had Vamp!Xander been returned with her...?
 
The whole episode is great but some short and favourite scenes:


Xander "threatening" Willow with the cross, shaking it as if it had stopped working/batteries died. 😀

Anya trying to buy a beer and finally settling for a coke.

Cordelia taking the opportunity to talk with Willow locked in a cage.

Xander being very satisfied over the fact that he´s a bad ass vampire in the other world.

Xander: Can you believe that the Watcher´s council let this guy go?

Willow: It's horrible! That's me as a vampire? I'm so evil and... skanky. And I think I'm kinda gay.
Buffy: Willow, just remember, a vampire's personality has nothing to do with the person it was.
Angel: Well, actually... That's a good point.

One of my all time favourite qoutes. So simple and so genious.



As a sidenote. And even though I´ve recognized CF´s "location" since the start I haven´t been sure until now exactly which episode it was from. :blush:
 
Alyson is amazing in this episode.

Poor old reliable Willow. I can relate to her "rebellion". Sometimes I would want to do something that people wouldn't expect from me. I never do though...

Favorite quote must be:

Xander shaking the cross in front of Willow is just hilarious!

I know there has been some discussions / complains about that the gang isn't showing enough grief when they think Willow has been vamped.
That is kinda true, maybe it isn't the most heartbreaking and belivable response. But for the case of the episode I think it is done exactly right.
They manage to do a quite funny scene, even though the subject is the death of Willow.

Oh, I do love this episode....Willow's cute little wave to Oz when they've switched places, the whole "she died" thing that's already been brought up.

Hands! Hands in new places! lol 😀

I don't know if I can add anything that hasn't already been mentioned...other than I the whole stoic exchange between Angel and Oz...since you don't really see it often...I always liked it, though I'm not sure why.

I wish I had my collection with me....

This is one of my all-time favorite episodes, and in my eyes, it's definitely the funniest. Aly is just great. Like Blondie said, she's playing 4 different characters; Willow, Vamp Willow, Willow pretending to be Vamp Willow, and Vamp Willow pretending to be Willow; and she never misses a beat. Plus, it has some of the best moments of the series (Xander shaking the cross then holding it back up to see if it works, Willow's offended "I'm not a vampire!", the whole Old Reliable vs. Old Faithful vs. Old Yeller exchange, Willow being rebellious and eating her banana before lunchtime...the list goes on.)

Really, I can't think of a bad thing about it. I guess double the Willow means double the hilarity.
 
I really love the part where Cordelia thinks she's talking to Willow when she's in the cage. "Hmm... what could we talk about? Oh, I know, how about the ethics of boyfriend stealing?"

I liked that whole issue about boyfriend stealing.
Willow had wanted Xander for ages, yet Cordy didn't have a problem taking Willows dreams of Xander and crushing them, then Cordy complains about Willow doing similar to her; poor Cordy, voicing her complaints to a vampire.
Did Vampy Willow know the past? did she know that she helped kill Cordy before in Wish?.

We saw the real Willow walking about in Vampy Willow's clothes, wish we could have seen Vampy Willow wandering about in that lovely fluffy pink sweater = evil vampire in a fluffy pink sweater? how many funny lines could the writers have come up with?
On the DVD doing a frame by frame of Willow hitting Anya two images of Willow could be seen....Now three Willow's in the same episode?
 
I love it when Willow walks into the library after the gang has encountered her evil self at the Bronze. "She was way better than me" says Xander. "Yes, much better" says Giles! 🙂
 
what a classic episode, i can watch it over and over again and still come at smiling and laughing, especially love the superb acting by aly playing two completely different parts, shes amazing, anya is very funny with her outburs " im 1120 yrs old just gimme a frickn beer" lol, also the little xander giles moment, "she was truly the finest of all of us"... "way better than me".."much much better" lol, great episode: popcorn:
 
i do like the alt version of the scene with slightly diffrent lines between giles and xander, but their reaction was funny (i dunno how it would play out if we were meant to take this episode seriously, their reaction not exactly, perhaps, apropriate...)

and yay for an Anya episode in season 3.
 
Season 3 has such a high number of fantastic episodes. One of my favourite Buffy episodes, I LOVE Doppelgangland. Willow is so bloody cute!:biggrin: But I do love a good character episode and this is a great one. I especially like the scene with the two Willows in the library and the neck-licking. 😉 And Angel's moment of realisation is hilarious.
 
Hi, I've been silent for a while, busy at work and on my rather silly book project, but checked in today only to find one of my favourite episodes under discussion.
Aly's performance has already been justifiably applauded above. When I last watched the episode, I was struck again by how well she plays Willow playing evil Willow. At the same time it really brought home the small things that you never think twice about when it comes to showing evil characters. They must be strong and scary, so that the audience will not laugh at them instead, so they never put a foot down in the wrong place (unless that's what's needed in the end to give the hero his chance) and their fingers never stick when they are doing something to their hair. In this scene, Aly does all of those small things that show to us that are in the know that that's not really the evil guy, without overdoing it so that it should be too obvious for the onlookers.
Great performance, and perhaps we should give some credit to the director as well? Joss Whedon, I think his name was.
 
Great episode, so many brilliant moments. My faves-
Willows cute little wave to Oz. Very sweet.
Buffy : "Aren't you gonna' introduce me to your-- Holy God, you're Willow." ...
Anya : " I'm eleven-hundred and twenty years old, give me a frickin beer."
And Wesley's classic scream when Cordy sneaks up behind him. The moment I decided i liked Wesley. So funny.
