I keep hearing Global Warming is the next apocalypse, but I don't know. Where I am, not so much. Not this year anyway. The ice packs in the mountains were a record high. It's been cool and moody so far pretty much all this year with a couple of hot weeks of summer.

They tell me you shouldn't make assumptions based on your own region though. They tell me it can be cool where I am, but hot everywhere else. Apparently the worldwide average is what you're looking for.

I thought I'd try a poll to get a better idea.
 
I live in Paris, France and it's damn cooooooooled and it rains about 80% of the time. The average temperature this summer was about 20°C (68°F) which is pretty cold when you think it should be about 26°C (79°F)...
And because of the rain, I didn't have the time to warm up before autumn and winter. I cross my fingers to have a warm and shiny autumn... As for the summer it's too late.
But for sure, I prefer such a cold and rainy summer than the one we had about 4 years ago with no rain during 2 months and 38°C (100°F) all the time...
 
Last year was much warmer than usual. This year its been cold and rainy all summer (except today for some reason)
 
Aah...the weather. Well, as I'm British, it's the Law that I have to rant about it 😉

It's unseasonably cold here on the East coast of England and I bloody hate it! We have had the worst summer weather that I can remember 🙁 and those of you who know me will know that my memory goes back a long, long way...
It's been so grim and miserable this summer that I'm quite depressed about it...what with floods throughout the country from June through to the end of July and wind, rain and grey skies for the rest of the summer, I'm really looking forward to our holidays in a few weeks...the Pointys are off to the Med again 🙂 I can't wait.
We had one totally dry week a fortnight ago, when it was reasonably warm and that's been it for this summer...I want a refund 🙂

I'd have thought that if something was called global warming it would at least have the decency to be warmer...pah!

We had a nice week in May as usual and its been bad ever since :(
im back in Sydney now, and ive heard/read that this years winter has been one of the coldest winters ever. Thank god i was only here for the last half of it.

See, if you look at the temperature now, it looks cold but thats why you need to look at a year average. We are currently, in the UK, having unseasonably cool, wet weather, but in the grand scheme of things the year needs to be taken into account.
We cannot forget that in March-May here in the UK we had temperatures that were not on record for that time of year. In NZ, Typhoons were hitting the North Island that had not had any nearly as severe for over 350 Years.
Hurricanes at the moment are rising to Catagory 5 at an average of 4 a year and 10 years ago that was only 1.

None of this proves Global Warming, but the planet not being 'warm' now doesn't disprove it.

In fact the rainy weather as bad as it is, is more likely to help the Global Warming debate as Rain is part of the heating of the sea cycle. More rain = more heat on the seas/ocean.
 
i think, in Northern Ireland, we're starting to get our summer now (she says with her fingers crossed) we had really bad time of it June/July, it seemed like it was almost always raining. July is a big celebration time for us, and it was awful to see the boys marching in the rain, getting soaked through. August has been a pretty good month, so far, so let'shope that continues.
and yeah, we had an ok time of it March-May, but it wasn't anything like the mainland UK got.
 
Well, here in midwestern Illinois, it's really been the same. Periods of rain, intense humidity, sweltering yucky days. That's pretty much the norm here until the weather breaks in late September/early October.
 
I live In Wilmington Delaware of the US (which is a crappy place to live cause its so dull) ANYWAYS.... It was weird cause even in 2006, It felt like summer litterally we were outside wearing shorts and tank tops in like december and january then i got really cold around like feb-may or so maybe april but yeah... and then as soon as it turned april we were back to sweltering 100 + degree heat..... When me and my boyfriend went to the beach our last day there just happened to be the hottest day of the summer and i almost passed out when we were fishing, Even being under shade did nothing

Interesting little factoid about Typhoon/Hurricanes that hasn't got out to the general public yet. Warming doesn't cause em. The reason people still think it does has more to do with the hysterics of popular media than any science.

It went like this. You've no doubt heard of the United Nations IPCC report and their claim Global Warming is coming for you. The IPCC is divided into two parts, scientists at the bottom, made up of a controversial mixture of scientists, (not all climatologists), who gather information on the weather science of the day, and policy makers at the top who interpret that information and feed it to the general public.

OK, so what happened was the first interpretation of the IPCC report was coming out on the heels of Hurricane Katrina. The IPCC policy makers jumped on this as an opportunity to get some press. They held a press conference in a hotel lobby where they claimed Hurricanes more devasting than Katrina were on the way, and 2006 was going to be the most catastrophic hurricane season on record. The problem was 2006 came and went and no hurricanes - well, nothing like what they claimed was going to happen.

In fact the IPCC's main hurricane expert got quite upset by the policy makers press release of this false information. He made no such claim in his report of any kind of expected increase in hurricane activity. He wasn't aware of any other scientist saying any such thing. I believe he quit the IPCC. I know he was quite vocal in his opposition to the policy maker's claims. You didn't hear about that though, because it's not hysterical enough to make the news. It's just science.

The long and the short of it is most people still think warm climate causes hurricanes. It doesn't. Want some links?
 
I live in MN, pretty much the coldest place on earth, (Antarctica has nothing on us come December) and this summer about 2/3 of our days have been above 90 degrees Farenheit, very unusual for the chilly midwest.
 
We've had really weird weather since Spring. Winter was fairly mild, but we did have a couple snow days...that's not that unusual....we usually get at least one a year and sometimes two or three. Spring came and the weather warmed up pleasantly, then a really unusual cold snap during Easter, we had SNOW! On Easter Sunday! That's almost unheard of....I think they even said on the news the last time it had happened was in the early part of the century. So, anyway....Spring gives way to a really wet, cool summer that lasted all the way up to the middle of July. The 100+ temps we're used to seeing from the end of June on, didn't arrive till late July/early August.

No scientist can actually say that Global Warming does or doesn't, only theorize. The fact is it is still hotly disputed.
Over the last ten years the number of catagory 4 and 5 Hurricanes has increased(note I didn't say the number of hurricanes just the magnitude).
You can link until you are blue in the face, and trust me when I say 'so can I'.

There is a chance that global warming is a lot of hooey, and if so we are in a natural cycle of events, however there is just as much chance that all the extreme weathers we are seeing at the moment are caused by Global Warming.

Way I see it, it doesn't matter which is the cause of the problem, as a society we pump too many toxins and crap into the air. It doesn't matter if there is global warming or not, for the sake of this planet we should cut back and keep this planet as clean as possible.
 
i live in southern california, and theres been weather otter then usual but theres always a few days that are super hot so i dont know if it has to do with global warming

I considered debating you, but then I thought why bother when even though we're coming at it from different perspectives we're essentially saying the same thing. There is no proof warmer air surface temperatures causes hurricanes. There is a theory a warmer ocean surface temperature has been increasing the intensity of hurricanes, and that ocean surface temp increase has been caused by CO2 and resulting global warming, but to me that's more an ad hoc hypothesis created after AGW advocates got caught trying to BS people into believing they could predict intensity increases of hurricanes based on rises in CO2. To which the opposing side simply says remember 2006.

Now on your offer to exchange links. Hell yeah. I love reading that stuff.

Just in case you thought I was spinning you a yarn about Christopher Landsea of the Atlantic Oceanographic & Meteorological Laboratory getting screwed over by the IPCC when they claimed 2006 was going to be a monster Hurricane season Here's the Link to that one.
 
I live near Memphis, TN and according to the news we've have record-breaking heat the past few weeks. We went 11 days of triple-digit weather. Which really blows. (I work outside.) It's definitely been hotter than usual.

How are you doing with all the flooding?

A couple days ago, me and some friends went to the beach and we were only there for like an hour before it got really overcast. We drove home (it was like a 1 1/2 hour drive) and by the time we almost reached home, it was raining so bad that we were doing like 30 mph on the highway with our hazards on. Anytime a semi passed us, we couldnt see the road anymore. We ended up getting off the road and sitting at a gas station for like a half an hour before we were ok with driving again. It was pretty scary.
 
As far ass I understand it, all serious research show that global warming is and is going to be a huge problem. Most of the doubts people have had about it have been explained and now point towards what I just said. I wish I could link you to this really simple but great guide to global warming – but it's in Swedish so..

Regarding the weather. I live in Stockholm, and haven't lived here any other summer so it's hard to say. But let me tell you, the summers have definitely got hotter in Northern Sweden (where I'm from), it's pretty noticeable..
