I thought Planet X passed by Earth in 2003/2004 or so... If you're referring to when they thought it would interfere with Earth's gravitational pull or something similar.

Most of this stuff is pretty fanciful, and some of it like the comet crash was forecast for the end of the millenium then when that didn't happen they put it off to 2012.

Here's another example of the apocalypse being put off to a later date thing that's good for a laugh.

Armageddon Online - Sect Leader: Doomsday Begins Next Thursday, June 12

Even with the mini black hole thing, at it's face value it looks to have all this advanced math involved, but if you just switch on the BS meter in spite of that it doesn't really stand the test of common sense. We're talking gravity being folded into a "hidden dimension" at 10 to the -17th power of the size of an electron, then being briefly energized to create tiny holes in spite of the fact there's no actual hard evidence for this sort of thing happening in the real universe, or something like that.

I chose the coming ice age. It has some common sense scientific support, and new research says they can hit rapidly. Not the Hollywood, warming-causes-cooling, stop of the thermohaline circulation belt foolishness, but a good, old fashioned, historically over-due ice age.

I hate all those global warming freaks

That sounds like a really evil twisted version of an episode of Alvin and the Chipmunks.

Cool! That would be funny end of teh world
Global warming, nuclear war, large scale outbreak of disease are more likely or the 200 year overdue super-volcano. But I still don't believe in this 2012 prediction.

I think the world as we know it will end eventually...not in 2012, but within the next two centuries at least. And I think it will be mankind's own doing, perhaps a nuclear war or something.

Y2K didn't happen, and I think that the possibility of a doomsday happening was far more logical for that than the 12/21/12 thing.
The 12/21/12 thing is kind of like the 6/6/06 event; it's more of a spiritual doomsday than anything.
And there was also another "apocalypse" that happened last year...my mom's friend's hippie husband (whoo, that's a mouthful) crashed at our house.
And guess what? Nothing happened.

Mayans didn't predict Y2K. I like the Mayans....they seem rather mysterious and trustworthy in my book!

My God, is that what those things are? I caught a snapshot of one when it was out doing field reconnaissance.

Haha nice.
Let's pretend we're honestly scared. What freaks you the most?

Well, the World War 3 freaks me the most, but I'm sure some kind of biological weapons would be used, so combine the two and you get the picture.
It'll happen in 2033, though, not 2012. 😛 And squirrels will definitely be a part of it. 😉

What a cute little Squirrel, shame really, 'cos the Australian Zombie Possums have been after them, why do do think there are so few of them in the army?

Ahhh! Random, off-topic story here:
The other day, I heard my dog barking like crazy in my house. So I went over to him, guessing that he wanted to go for a walk or he was hungry or something, only to see a real, live squirrel planted on the wall. So he jumped downstairs, and we couldn't find him until my dog hunted him down. So eventually, we got him out thanks to my scary dog trying to kill him, but yeah.

I wouldn't be surprised if squirrels got into everyone's houses and scared them off the planet, because dude, they're intimidating!

Hmmm, this story sounds very familiar. Now there could I have heard it before? Sisters or just a coincidence?
That isn't off topic at all !!

It comes under the heading of a natural disaster.
(sniggers to himself whilst walking away).

Do you think it's all the Buffy that makes us so cavalier about the Impending Apocalypse?

^ I think it's the knowledge that there's nothing we can do to stop it and--in some cases--nothing we can do to survive it.

Or we know that between Slayers, Indiana Jones or the Crystal Skulls, it's our job to just sit and wait for it to be all "fixed"
as someone may know i think were going out with a virus.... it could be something nuclear sure, but technically i don't see all humans dying and even it we do to me thats not the end of the world, we just happen to live here, and in the grand scheme of things and the life of this planet we're a blip on the end of it.

wow i feel less peppy now

What scares me the most are a global war and/or a plague (they're basically the same, or would at least result in similar consequences). However neither one of those would be enough to wipe us all out. So total world destruction -- we'd need something a little more spectacular. So that black hole thing sounds reasonable. Or possibly a super rapidly expanding sun that swallows up Mercury which causes a chain reaction and a miniature Big Bang in reverse!?

Well, the Yellowstone Volcano is almost a non-factor, there will never be another World War, there are plenty of super-viruses running around already, so that leave a comet strike or ice age. An ice age cannot happen that quickly, so comet strike. Comet strike is so cliche!

I first heard about the whole "World ending in 2012" in an episode of a weird, yet enjoyable t.v. show I used to watch Veritas The Quest. Haha that would be awesome to live.. well.. die through :/

I guess if there's nothing afterwards it would suck though!

I'll cast my vote for World War III.
