Day 2: What is your favorite episode title?
I don't think I have one.
I like the tiles of Tim Minear's episodes a lot. They're simple but effective, and paint a good mental picture: "Sense and Sensitivity", "The Prodigal", "Are You Now or Have You Ever Been", "Benediction", "Home"...
I also really like "Dear Boy" and "Not Fade Away".
I like "Dear Boy" because of the way Darla says it to Angel. It's motherly, condescending, loving, seductive, possessive. It just fits their relationship. It's like, regardless of whether Angel is himself or Angelus or Liam, a part of him will always be her "dear boy".
And I like "Not Fade Away" because it describes how I think of Angel. As a show, it won't fade from my memory, or stop being relevant to my life. Angel the character will never fade away either. The whole point of the episode is that Angel will never lose himself and forget who he is, what he stands for. Angel ends the series even more dedicated to fighting evil than he was when he began. When I hear "Not Fade Away", I think it's empowering. It's about refusing to go down without a fight, refusing to let go of your identity or your future. To me, it's about refusing to let the darker parts of my life, and my darkest thoughts, chip away at my will to live, at my passion, at my beliefs. I refuse to fade away into nothing, to be silenced or to silence myself. And I think this is exactly what the words mean to Angel too.
