30 Days of Bangel

Least favourite Bangel episode:
It's 'Sanctuary' by far for me, the scene at the end with Buffy and Angel is very chilly, if my first viewing of Bangel had been that scene there's no way I'd ship it lol.

Agreed! And in the special 100th episode no less. 🙂
It sounds like something written by Cordelia for her 'Angel Investigations' commercial: 'I'm the Dark Avenger; I beat the bad guys'. Ugh!

Would have been much funnier in that commercial though!

Yeah definitely not the best episode for first viewing. But I do like it for what it reveals about them individually.

LOVE LOVE LOVE x100 that commercial hahah
Also, why didn't he say something to Cordelia? It didn't have to be rude or overly aggressive but something even as little as "That wasn't very nice." Or a glare... or SOMETHING. Cordelia bullys Buffy and Angel just stands there and says nothing when he knows her feelings are hurt. 😕

To be fair, up until this point Angel hasn't interacted with Cordelia very much and during the few times he has, she's been pleasant with him; in this instance particularly they were having what seemed to be a good conversation. Then Angel spots Buffy and hurries over to her, Cordelia comes over, Angel is looking at Buffy with a bit of a smile, Cordelia makes the mean comment, Angel's expression changes quickly. I think he's just taken aback by the comment and right after Buffy reacts to the comment Angel says to her, "Don't listen to her. You look fine."

I can understand where everyone in the thread is coming from, though, and maybe this is just my interpretation of the scene. But I definitely agree he could've had more of a reaction because what we get really isn't much of a reaction.

Day 4: Favourite S2 Buffy/Angel episode

[Not including Becoming] I'd say part 1 of What's My Line. Everything we get is so good! Right from the beginning we get Angel holding Mr. Gordo, cute! Seeing Buffy and Angel just having a comfortable conversation, in which we hear Buffy talk about skating is nice.

I love this quote:

And then of course: the kiss and its buildup at the ice rink is a beautiful moment. All in all, they're just so sweet in this episode!

Day 4: Favorite S2 Buffy/Angel episode?

Since I already said "Surprise" for overall favorite Buffy/Angel episode, I'm gonna go with "What's My Line: Part 1" too, for the same reasons @Jam listed. I also really like the scene where Angel threatens Willy to get information about the hit Spike put on Buffy (particularly the way Willy is already edging away nervously when all Angel is doing is casually walking closer). Pretty much parallels Buffy's extreme protectiveness of him in the second half, and it's the first time we get to see him doing something detective-y on his own.

I guess there's no need for a day about picking a favorite S1 Buffy/Angel episode because we'd all just say "Angel."

Day 4: Favorite S2 Buffy/Angel episode?

This is one is easy for me: I Only Have Eyes For You. The episode is such a gorgeous exploration of forgiveness and especially the difficulty of forgiving yourself. "To forgive is an act of compassion, Buffy. It's not done because people deserve it. It's done because they need it."

I love that they tackled Buffy's guilt over being the one to "kill" Angel through his moment of perfect happiness, because it adds really poignant layers to Buffy and Angel's characters, when it would have been easy to gloss over this because of course it really wasn't Buffy's fault.

The James/Grace possession scene is also a very moving foreshadowing of the future -- most of the dialogue is echoed in Season 3. And I love how the use of "Full of Grace" at the end of Becoming calls back to Angelus being full of Grace's spirit in this episode (it may have been unintentional but I still love it).

I have extra soft feelings for this episode, too, because of this sweet moment between SMG and DB when they were filming (second clip in the video).

I guess S1 is not on the list because everyone assumes it will be Angel (and I agree that would likely be my fav) but I'll go ahead and include this anyway because aside from Angel my Favorite Season 1 Bangel episode is: NKABOTFD because of everything this Bangel scene means:

First Buffy is like on a regular good old fashion date with a reasonably cute guy (or whatever) having a reasonably good time and then Angel walks in and they are immediately like:

"Buffy"
"Angel"
Her face lights up:

And Buffy is immediately bummed out when she realizes Angel is there for "work" stuff.

Second the interaction between Owen/Buffy/Angel here where Angel is CLEARLY jealous and sizing Owen up. And OH BY THE WAY - Angel looks hot.

I can't a gif of this and it makes me sad but then when she comes back to give Owen a kiss Angel is looking super pained about it and then when Owen says "she is the strangest girl" Angel's face is full of fascination. I love all of it.

Ok back to our regularly scheduled program.

Day 4: Favorite S2 Buffy/Angel episode?

I gotta agree with many of you that its gotta be WML pt 1&2 (is it cheating to chose them both?). It solidified everything for me about this pair. So many great quotes: "You're the one freaky thing in my freaky world that makes sense to me."/ "nobody messes with my boyfriend." / "I didn't even notice."

And the beauty of the ice skating rink is even more powerfulwhen you think of the parallel between what Darla told Angel and where he and Buffy are in their relationship:

Love the parrallel
Favourite season 2 Bangel episode:
Halloween- I enjoy watching Buffy and Angel being so ordinary and lighthearted with each other, Buffy's biggest worry is whether Angel is attracted to who she is or not which is adorable.

@dcai0830 loved what you said about NKABOTFD and I’ll add that this is the episode that serves to show why someone like Angel can be a good partner for Buffy because she doesn’t have to hide such a big part of herself to him or worry about his safety. I love that episode so much, it’s Buffy at her cutest and most relatable!

I’ll post about my pick for s2 when I’m in front of the computer 🙂

Yes! Good point the end where she realizes that Owen would get hurt around her makes you think someone like Angel would be a great partner.
I am behind on this so I am going to put the first 9 items in one post. I will do my best to make as succinct as possible.
Fav Bangel Season: Season 2
Fav Bangel Episode Overall:
I will remember you. It shows Buffy and Angel getting to be the way they always wanted to be.
Least fav Bangel episode: Sanctuary. I didn't like seeing them going at each other. So many hurtful things said. It was the opposite of I Will Remember You.
4. Fav Bangel Episode S2: Surprise
5. Fav Bangel episode episode S3: Enemies. The intrigue and Buffy and Angel working together to get more information about the Ascension of the Mayor.
6. Fav Angel Look: The tuxedo in The Prom. He looked so elegant.
7. Fav Buffy look: Buffy in her Prom dress in The prom
8. Fav Bangel moment: When Angel is sitting holding Buffy's hand while she sleeps after receiving the cure in Earshot. This was hard for me, but because almost all Bangel moments are wonderful so I had a lot to choose from.
9. Fav Sarah's quotes about Bangel: All of them.

Wow I got through and it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be.

Day 3 : Least favorite Bangel episode

I love Sanctuary but I agree it's not a great episode for the ship so I'm going to go with that one. It has no effect on my love for the episode though.

Day 4 : Favorite Bangel episode of season 2

I'm going to go with What's My Line p1. I can't really add much to what's already been said, but that episode really highlights the good impact that relationship has on Buffy, at that time in her life. Despite Angel being supernatural, the relationship makes her feel grounded and normal. She gets to have someone who not only listens to her fears and frustrations about being the slayer but who encourages her to connect with her human self too. It really is a sweet episode for them and it has 2 of my favorite Bangel quotes ("You're the one freaky thing in my freaky life that still makes sense to me" and "I didn't even notice").

Day 1 : Fav Bangel season ?

Season 3.
I like that we already have a whole backstory by this point, and Buffy and Angel are already much better developed characters. I prefer the middle/ending of their relationship to the beginning. Buffy and Angel share a more subdued bond this season (although there is some, or a lot of, drama) and I like how Bangel supports Angel's arc (depression). This season puts more focus on real aspects of a relationship and not just the supernatural ones.

Day 2 : Fav Bangel episode overall ?

Amends.
It's my favorite Buffy episode which is why it's my favorite Bangel one. I Will Remember You comes close, but I feel like Angel's suffering and existential crisis is, not only incredibly moving and relatable, but also a brilliant foil for the pair. Buffy essentially inspires Angel's mission in this episode. It really builds up his character and his arc for the rest of the season (and AtS). It also shows how forgiving, compassionate and inspiring Buffy can be. As the heroine of the show, she often shows others how to be brave and fight. I just love the give and take they have in that scene at the top of the hill, and how honest and exposed they are with each other. It also highlights one of the best things about Bangel: understanding and unconditional support. Plus, that one sex scene is really hot.

Day 3 : Least fav Bangel episode overall ?

Homecoming.
But can I just say that it's also a tie between School Hard and Band Candy? Their scenes in both episodes aren't meaningful or interesting. School Hard is about Angel being vague and Band Candy is all "smell me". Regardless, in Homecoming, they just have one angsty scene about Scott Hope... Pass.

Day 4 : Fav Bangel episode in S2 ?

Surprise.
Becoming part 2 is also a great one, but Surprise is full of Bangel scenes. I love pretty much all of the hot kissing and the sweet tenderness. Nothing else to it...

Day 5 : Fav Bangel episode in S3 ?

Amends.
I've explained before why it's a fave. Graduation Day part 2 is another favorite episode though. I love how Buffy comforts and saves Angel, I looove the bite scene, and I like their roles in the battle. Angel looks so good fighting.

I'll update regularly and on schedule from now on!
