31 Days of (Christmas) Spuffy

I think Spike seeing Buffy's acceptance of Angel and her open relationship with him did play a massive part in him thinking to go and seek his soul. Being told constantly that he was soulless etc clearly flagged it as the 'lack' that he should fix in his quest and directed him for sure. I also think Angel's connection to Spike probably played a part in Buffy not staking him when he was first chipped and when he returned in Lovers Walk too though, so it is difficult to extricate such a huge factor from their story and reimagine so much.

The soul was something the group could readily accept fundamentally changes a vamp from all those that Buffy is fighting every night and saving people from. The chip would have just been seen as a muzzle regardless of the soul issue I think. For canon compliancy on the soul's importance I'd have to say that yes, no matter if they had experience with Angel's soul before or not, eventually the inequality on moral boundaries and emotional depth would have mattered somehow. If Spike was just chipped and they hadn't had the Angel experience I think they'd still rightly have been wary. Possibly, if they were less prepared and knowledgeable about the limitations the soul presents, awakening could have just come with more disastrous consequences like Jenny's murder.

XANDER: I thought I hit bottom, but ... it hurt. That you didn't trust me enough to tell me about Spike. (pauses, softly) It hurt.
BUFFY: I'm sorry. I should have told you.
XANDER: (small smile) Maybe you would have, if I hadn't given you so many reasons to think I'd be an ass about it.
BUFFY: Guess we've all done a lot of things lately we're not proud of.
XANDER: (slightly larger smile) I think I've got you beat.
BUFFY: Wanna compare?
XANDER: Not so much.

I agree that they were both shocked that Buffy hadn't told them, but I also think they were more accepting because Buffy assured them that it was over, that it was a terrible mistake, that she'd never go there again. If Buffy had said that she intended to pursue a full relationship with Spike at the end of S6, I think Xander would go off the deep end. Willow would try to be the peace maker, and see both sides, but I think it would split the scoobies up completely and Buffy would have to choose between her friends/watcher and her lover. Which is essentially what she did in S7, and luckily for us she made the right choice 😀
 
Day 14: If Angelus had never gotten cursed with the soul and there was no Angel in Buffy's life, how would it change things for Spuffy? Scoobies relationship with chipped Spike and would Spike even went to get a soul if they would have no idea what he is missing and why it is so important?

It's really hard to imagine Buffy without Angel in the first three seasons, but I'd like to think that if Spike were her first vampire boyfriend, I still think Xander would be very much against it. Willow by S4/5 was much more maturer, and would be more accepting. I also think Buffy would be more open to a relationship with Spike, having not lived through the horror of Angelus. I do think Angelus made Buffy put so much weight onto the soul and how those without a soul are just 'things'. Maybe a chipped Spike from S4 would have persuaded Giles and the council that souls were not as important as they had originally thought. Without Angelus, the whole ethos of the show would have been different.

Unfortunately without Angel Buffy would have never even allied with Spike, and I think her opinions on vampires would have been all too straightforward. If the first time she met Spike was when he was chipped, I think she may have kidnapped him just so Giles or Willow could figure out what happened, but I cannot see her taking any sort of sympathy on him or opening up. Hypothetical situations like this make me think of The Wish, and even though in this particular scenario she would still have her friends, an Angelless Buffy has no real alternative perspectives on vampires.

Spike's side of things would not have been much different. I don't think he would have even known vampires could get souls without Angel, and I think I may go as far to say he would have never confided in Buffy if she hadn't had experience with Angel. (Think- "Angel was a vampire" in Crush)

Well no, the storyline of Angel's souled/unsouled states supported what the verse wanted to say about souls. If they had wanted to make it limited and specific to Angel they could have concluded in S6 that Spike and Buffy could have a healthy relationship and had him prove that he could draw the lines and stick to them. So rather than the verse being different on souls without Angel, the verse would have had to just decide to be different on souls. Something they could have done in Spike's case in contrast to Angel if they'd wanted to. 🙂

Personally I wouldn't change it for the world. It makes the verse stronger to be consistent and it makes Spike's story more interesting for him to not just be able to be what he wanted 'for love'. I like the darker truth and the struggle to move forwards. I'd never change what we got. 😀

Well, it would have been a different show through all of the seven seasons. I believe, that the relationship with Angel and the Angelus arc was important for Buffys development as a person and a woman. I also believe, that the - very long - path, Spike had to walk until the soul, was important for his development as a person. And last not least, I believe, that the soul was important for Spike as an individual as well as for Spikes and Buffy relationship.

If Angel had never gotten cursed with the Soul, it would probably have meant, that no one knew about the possibility to get a soul back. Thus Spike would never have cinsidered, to oul and not even considered, to go to Africa. It would change the story very drastically, but not in a way, that I would like better.

Hah ! Finally it`s my turn ! Let`s go for something light and seasonal today ;-)
Willow has been practising with weather spells lately and unfortunately, one of them has gone wrong and now it is heavily snowing in Sunnydale, for just one hour, because by then, Giles will have managed to do a reverse spell.

Day 15: How are Spike and Buffy going to spend one hour in heavy snowfall ? Are they going to
a) walk hand in hand through the falling snowflakes ?
b) get Buffys old sledge out of the basement and go for a ride ?
c) build a huge snowman ?
d) make snow angels ?
e) have a snowball fight ?
f) do something else completely ?

I`ll wait for your answers, before I give my own 🙂

Day 15: How are Spike and Buffy going to spend one hour in heavy snowfall ?

I'd love to see them having a snowball fight. I think they'd both love using their strength and aggressive natures, while also having fun and making each other laugh. Then they'd go in and have hot chocolate with marshmallows 🙂
 
As a Southern California girl Buffy doesn't have a lot of cold weather clothes. She'll head to the mall to do some shopping. Spike will stalk, I mean watch, her. Buffy will notice and make him carry the bags. They'll end up finding the only piece of mistletoe in the whole damn place. After that it gets a bit NC17.

Okay, okay, I'm convinced, shopping and sex it is :-)
Well, walking through the snow and holding hands is more of a Bangel-y thing. Making snow angels sounds nice, but Spike doesn`t like angels. As a california girl, Buffy does not have a sledge in the basement. Building a snow man is boring and that is why they would of course go for the snowball fight and have lots of fun and laughter. The hot chocolate with marshmallows is a nice additiuon, @Priceless !

ETA: @TriBel, I forgot to mention, that it was already after sunset, when Willows spell went wrong. No risk for Spike to be out in the snow 🙂

That's US dollars 13.32; 11.34 Euros; 17.16 Canadian Dollars; 84.37 Krone (apologies. if I've missed a nation (this isn't worth going to war over!). 😉You need to say who you are and which season the present is applicable to (do not say Winter - you KNOW what I mean!). In addition - what would you buy if money was no object and there was no cap? Oh...and you can presume that Amazon delivers! You can thank/blame @Priceless for the question - her predicament a few weeks ago was my inspiration.

Okay, so it's Season 11 and I am Xander and I draw Spike's name out of the hat . . . I'm a practical guy so I get him a Hoodie with the words Dead Boy stencilled on the back. The tag would say 'Hey Dead Boy, if you insist on going out in the sunlight all the time, you'll need a few of these' 😀

If I were Xander and had all the money in the world . . . this is actually harder because Spike doesn't really need anything that can be bought with cash. . . But if John Lydon and PiL reformed again and were playing in San Francisco Xander could get Spike tickets and a back-stage pass and a meet and greet with Lydon. I think Spike would get a kick out of that and they could discuss Punk, Politics, Poetry, the state of the world . . . and how much they both loved butter 😀
