A better storyline for Dawn

I don't think she necessarily needed a storyline of her own, but I think she needed to be written as a fifteen year old properly, with her life not as a tag-a-long of her sister's.

Well I personality think that the story for Dawn was quite good, I mean the thief-thing but maybe she should have another spezial force because she is the mystical key. Maybe she couldn't handle with the force and so she makes trouble and so on and so on....

By the way, Wwat happened with the knight clan who want to destroy the Key in season 5? Now the key isn't a danger for the world but maybe there would be another reason for them to try to kill her. Just an idea.

I like those ideas! they should have done that
i think she should of got more focus plots and even be the next in line as Slayer but thats just my opinion
 
I agree with VisionGirl, Dawn as the key had some interesting possibilities and I think that exploring why the monks went so far out of their way to on one hand protect the key from Glory, while making sure that the key was not destroyed. After all, this would have been the simplest why to prevent Glory from getting the key. So I think that they must have had a very good reason to ensure that the key survived. While I don't necessarily think that this should have been the arc for season 6, I think something that showed that Buffy's decision to save Dawn was the best decision she could have made.
 
I'd like to know exactly why she wasn't a potential. If she was literally made from Buffy . . . then it doesn't make sense to me that she wasn't.

So that, along with more information and fallout from the fact that she was/is the key would have been interesting to me.

Just because they share the same blood doesn't necessarily mean they share the same attributes. None of the slayers called share blood or are related & it'd almost kind of take from the idea that a slayer is chosen as opposed to being made as apart of a mystical fluke.
Call me crazy but I like the fact she didnt have any powers. It made things less complicated & it would probably come off as dumb if they did give her a power
 
For me, one of the biggest problems with Dawn is that she doesn't really grow to have much of a mind of her own. It makes sense when she's 15 and struggling with being the key, but as she ages, she's still trapped in that immature mindset.

Being depressed, whiny, and irritating I feel are all justified given what's happened to her. But an increasingly independent mind would have made her a far better character.

ETA: When she does make some independent choices, we don't even get to hear her reasoning behind them, (for example when she turns the car round in End of Days and returns home), which leaves me unsatisfied. Make her into a real person--let's hear her thoughts! And of course there are the decisions which are ridiculous and OOC, (like at the end of Empty Places).

I think in a lot of ways Dawn is kind of like Willow was before she met Buffy. She had two close friends but nothing else, although Willow was always very smart, she had a tendency to come across as younger then she was, mostly due to a lack confidence in herself. I think Dawn's immaturity came from much the same place. Then when she finds out that she is the key, she freaks, but her reaction is very similar to the way most kids who are adopted react,

I think towards the end of season 6 and in 7 we did see Dawn being increasingly independent, I think the best example comes in the ep Potential. Though there are times when she reverts to the more immature state, Him and Conversations With Dead People specifically.

I definitely agree here, especially about her OOC behavior in Empty Places, I always understood why Xander, Willow, Giles and the Potentials all decided that they didn't want Buffy to leave, I thought it was wrong and one of the worst betrayals I have ever seen on a TV shows. But Dawn's decision makes absolutely no sense, given her character, the closest thing I can think of is that she can see just how much of a toll the leadership position is taking out on Buffy. I do understand why she tazes Xander and turns the car around in end of days however. She was basically saying that she absolutely refused to be on the sidelines for the final confrontation, and I do think its follows with how Dawn developed in season 7.
 
I would have liked to see her get an identity outside of being Buffy's kid sister on the show. Even if we only saw her going to high school and making friends and stuff, it would have been better than her only being used as a foil for Buffy.
 
The attempt at making her likable in Season Seven should have started at the beginning of Season Six.. like right away. I think with her as a 'key' and her 'acting out' a lot both being left in Season Five, most people would excuse her character.. but it pretty much too me 2-3 rewatches of season 6 & 7 to like her again; plus behind the scenes with Michelle explaining her character etc
