Guiltypleasure's thread got me thinking.

If you could give the younger you any advice, what would it be?

I think personally, I would say, "Don't fall for the first person who says you're pretty, you will regret it later." and "Listen to your mother! She knows best, always."

What would I say to a younger me?

"You are awesome. Don't ever change."

I never really had any of that 'oh, I wish I'd known that when I was younger' mind-set. To me, everything you did is what makes you who you are now, so if I went back to my teenage years and told myself not to do something, or to change something that happened, then I wouldn't be the person I am right now. And I'm pretty happy with the person I am right now.

The things you experience in your life define you. You learn through your mistakes. Sure, I could go back to my 18 year old self and tell her that her best friends aren't really all that great and that they're going to treat her like crap in four years, including one of them telling her she's not pretty enough to be one of her bride's maids, but really, what's that going to change? Not much. At the end of the day, I still felt like crap, I still lost the people I thought were my best friends, but I came out the other side a stronger person, and I won't give that up for anything.

I agree with Lyri, I would tell me I'm awesome.

Also maybe give me some lotto numbers.

Oh oh, actually tell myself not to drink on New Years 07, it wont end well.

Just chill, grades aren't the be all and end all, you can have a social life if you want. Also not to be so damned shy, but then I don't think I would have listened to me.

who needs a social live these days? thats what the internet was inventet for!
i would love to tell my younger me the lotto numbers for the following years 😀

but who knows, maybe i would have ended up as a spoiled brag and died 5 years ago crashing a porsche in a family car. or would got addicted to heroin and ODed.

money isn't everything in live, you have to earn your achievements. and its the same with the "making bad decisions and learning from them" process. anything that comes to easy isn't worth keeping it!

"Do your homework!!!! Don't say "oh, I'll do it later" because you won't! Do your homework and get out of this shit hole called a house! Oh and get into the geeky nerdy stuff sooner rather than later. Geeky nerdy people aren't weird or strange... they're just like you! They're your people, you belong with them!"

I'd probably tell my self that "it doesn't get better / It never gets better"

Hmmm. I actually wrote a whole blog entry to my 14 year old self last year. The gist was "You're not gonna get a part in that play freshman year. Ironically, a lot of your future friends will also be at auditions. However, they won't become your friends until later. Bring Harry Potter, that'll get them talking to you early. Also, Tabby, you're gay. Just thought you should know. And really? Freshman year matters. Get off your butt and do some work. And also, don't tick off the flute section leader, she'll make your life a living hell and everyone will gang up on you simply BECAUSE that bitca is section leader."

I think I have too many regrets for a normal seventeen year old...

Oh god... don't piss off your freshma section leader. Yup.
I would say "You're a cooler person than you think you are... Give yourself a little more credit in life, and follow your dream to become an artist".

I'd like to tell myself not to get with that loser when you are 19, but then I wouldn't have my son

Pay attention to your older sisters friends more, you'll end up marrying one of them one day!

Be more confident, and relax!

Actually study when you get to college, and make better than just b's. Your gpa could have been so much better.

I'd say "Stop thinking you are fat, because in three years, you'll see your pictures and think 'I'd be happy to be like thin like that again". That and "Believe me, in a few years, you will hate the way you are dressed now" 😀

"Don't be afraid of social services. Fourteen is old enough to get a chance to move out from home. You don't owe your family anything, least of all loyalty."

I'd tell myself that, no matter what, you will get bullied for a while. Find a way to deal with this instead of crying to mum. But, as soon as you hit later school years, and college, being geeky is apparently a cool thing. Don't try to change, either. Ponce.

Dear teenage me, actually dear current me - STOP BEING ATTRACTED TO DOUCHE BAGS. They will not make you happy and they will not change. Seriously, find a way to like nice guys that treat you right.

"Be easier on yourself and the people around you. Stop trying to be perfect and enjoy yourself. You're allowed to be happy."

''Don't give a crap about what others think of you.''
''Keep playing hockey, dumbass!''

As you can see, I'm pretty rough with younger me. 😛
