i was noticing i've found some post that indicated that some people in this boards hac troubles with their parents (or one of them) so i wonder does anybody has real SERUOUS troubles with their parents? a teacher in the other day told us that missing parrental figures can lead to a "break" in the kisd behavior so they have the tendency to be closed people, insecures and with troubles in relationships...i was just wondering if anybody here had any abusing or absent parent and if they had any problem opening up to people because of that. i'd like to know your opinions coz i have a sort of abusing/absent father so...

I wouldn't say that my parents are abusive. Sure, my mom can be a real b**** when she's mad - in the cruel sense of the word. But other than that, my mom is cool. My dad...I don't know if I could classify him as absentee. Certainly not abusive, just impatient. But, for as long as I can remember, he's had to work a lot, sometimes he's gone for weeks at a time. I'm not really all that close to him. I still love my parents, but it can be really hard sometimes to be around them.

I had a really bad childhood. My parents were both terrible. They neglected me and left me alone in the house for hours at a time from the age of about 5... (my sister was there before that but she got out and went to live with her real dad).

My father was very abusive and used to beat me up for no apparent reason. I was a very quiet child and tried my best to please him so as not to get hurt. He raped me when I was 7 and carried on doing it til I was 11. By then I had had enough and left home. I told social services what had happened to me and they took me away from it all. He went to court and got 1 year probation.

I'm fine now though... memories have cropped up and I find myself having to find a way to deal with them as they come. But I'm doing ok. When I first got out I had real problems socially. I didn't fit in and I got nervous around males. But I got over that because I spent my teenage years being brought up by my Aunt and Uncle (the best parents anyone could have). They shaped me into the person I am today. And although memories still haunt me sometimes I'm proud of who I've become. I'm at university and I'm in a serious relationship with a lovely guy who treats me the way I should be treated. Sometimes I don't like to bother anyone with my problems but that's something I can learn to get past. I can express myself any way I like. And I just feel so free now. 🙂

I didn't have a great childhood but most of it wasn't *That* bad..When i was a kid my dad was hardly really around... I mean when i was 3 he used to call me up say pack your stuff your spending tonight with me he'd call at like 10 am and by 10:30 i'd have my bags packed and would sit on the couch staring out the window with my little bags packed and then about 7 pm my dad would call and say he had better things to do he was out with his girlfriend and that went on till i was about 5 then he still really wasn't around but he started taking me out on the road with him in the summer but pretty much acted like i wasn't there so basically up untill recently this past year he was never around but now that i'm living with him and he and my step mom split he is around more...

And neither of my parents ever abused me my dad wouldn't touch me cause he was afraid he'd hurt me and my mom spanked me when i was little but nothing big... My old step mom and step dad were a different story... It started with my step dad when i was young around 6-10 i could have just been breathing wrong and he'd slap me and tell my mom i did something wrong.. he once saw me spred peanut butter on my peice of bread lick the knife and put it back in the jar for more he got ticked off and held me to the wall by my neck till i almost passed out but yet my mom still wouldn't believe me till she saw him push me in a chair then that relationship was over then when i was about 13 my step mom almost broke my finger well she dislocated it and she used to find every excuse to hit me every summer so i've had bad luck with Step parents.. But i think that because of all of that its made me stronger and its made me grow up alot which can sometimes be a good thing i guess

I'm sorry to hear about the terrible relationships you guys had with your parents.

My mother was very abusive to all three of us. She would beat us until we were bleeding-she was wicked. Still is although she doesn't hit us anymore. My father was around, but just acted like it wasn't happening. She abused him too, and eventually he cut and run, leaving us with the worst of the two parents. I often thought she would kill me. But the three of us led very sheltered lives and we spent most of the time thinking this was very normal. When I started hanging out with my circle of friends in high school I began to realize what a travesty my mother's emotional and physical abuse really was.

That's when I began to rebel. My sister was already living on her own and my brother was buffed up, so my mom wouldn't touch him. They both did their best to protect me, but in the end, it was all up to me. That's when I started hitting back-that's when I started to blackmail my mother-that's when I eventually ran off to live with my hubby at the age of seventeen (after a three year relationship) and held my child support money over my mother's head to keep her from telling dad. That's when I became just as bad as her in some cases.

It's taken me a long time to be able to talk about it so openly. The effects my mothers behavior has had on me is VERY far reaching. I'm cranky with people who really don't deserve it. i constantly think that the proven loving people in my life are going to run out on me, and I have a VERY violent temper-and that's just the beginning.

I am just starting to gain real control over this changed way I act in, and every day, I'm able to handle a little more without blowing my top. I hope to be completely healthy one day, but it's hard. The tools I learned to survive in my house were things that are horrible to anyone else, and it's scary.

Bet you didn't expect that from this cheery gal 😉

My Gawd, I'm surrounded by all these strong ladies...I'm not sure if I'm worthy...

elmo: That was a terrible circumstance...it really is a testament to your character that you've overcome it and lived a good life so far...I know people who faced tons less crap and used it as an excuse for all sorts of evil shiz. My hat is off to you, and you deserve a good guy...never settle for less, like you said before (see, I paid attention!).

Jacklyn: As you get older, I think you will find that you will get control. Half the problem is knowing what the problem is...and compensating for or fixing it! It's a lifelong process, and you are well on your way, and a lot farther than many other people (see above for my example) ever get! You'll be fine, I have no doubt!

Angels baby: Sounds like the steps were somewhat unstable at best. I assume you are away from that kinda stuff now...no excuse for it, really. Wish I could crush idiots like that...but then I'd be just like them...

Just to make it clear, I am parent, and I have swatted my kids' butts when they needed it...there have been times I felt like I coulda crushed their little skulls I was so mad...but I'd never do some of that stuff you told above...absolutely no excuse.

Ladies, just remember: The best revenge (if you want to call it that) is to live a successful life, and BE TRUE TO YOURSELF. You all are doing this, and I'm sure you will continue!

Cheers!

Definately worthy...
I think everyone has had a bad childhood now-a-days, maybe because all the parents are trying to to help the kids get happy lives but neglect them while trying to do that...

I had one abusive parent(father). It started when I was 5. My mother split from my father cuz' he was abusive towards her, & she couldn't take it any more, so she grabbed me & left. The last words out of his mouth before she left was, "If I can't have you, I'll have the next closest thing!" Well, I guess that happened to be me. So, from the ages of 5-10 he would sexual & physically abuse me whenever he had visitations. I guess it so bad, that my brain blocked it from memory. I have one memory(no details or anything-too sick), Lets just say it involves him half naked, me naked,& a dog. Besides that, the first childhood memory I have is from my 8th birthday party. All my friends from school, my brothers, a few of my cousins were there along with my Grandparents, my Aunt Melanie, my Aunt Kathy,& of course my mom, were all there. My father wasn't suppose to have me until the next day or something like that, but anyways, he showed up demanding that he takes me "NOW", my cousin Jen & I hide,he eventually finds us, drags me out, my mom is trying to hold onto me while this is going on, he loses his grip(but only for a moment), my mom has me for a moment, trying to keep her grip on me,I'm trying to keep my grip on her, he's pulling the other side of me, I lose my grip, but slowly catch my mom's hair, but finally he pryies my hands off of her, & I guess his strength overpowered hers, & took me kicking & screaming, tossed me into his car( nice btw:68' ss camaro),& drove away. My mother told me that when I was about 6 I finally confessed to her what my father had been doing. After that, she & I spent the next 8 years in court with a battle we ended up losing. There was all the legal documentation, studies on me that were documented & used, Therapists & Psychologists documentations, we had an open & closed case, so my mother & her lawyer thought. They weren't expecting that my father(since he's friends w/ everybody & their dog) knew police, who knew people, who knew people, etc.& his lawyer, well lets just say money was no option. He ended up "not guilty", every time!!!! WOW!!!! That feels good to get off my chest!!....I used be down on myself about that, & used to actually think of myself "dirty" for that happening to me, but now I look back & all I can really say about it is "that of which does not kill me, makes me stronger"....I now-a-days, would consider myself to be secure, with insecure moments, i'm confident, but not concided, very loving person, I love listeing to people & trying to help them, but I have a hard time trusting people, I have a hard time opening up to people, not in a shy way, I wouldn't consider myself shy,I just have a hard time opening up about me personally. To me, I just really don't want to bother anybody w/ my problems cuz' I know they have their own problems to deal with to just stop working on theirs to try & help me with mine. But, that's all I really have for this,I really don't know what else to say.

I'm really proud of you. You had a really hard time and you've come out of it better than ok. I feel exactly the same way as you do and that, I'd say, makes us brilliant. I know he didn't get what he deserved (neither did mine) but you've got one over on him just for being who you are now! 🙂 Don't ever change.

Thanks KD 😀 And you get a merit for good observation skills. I like you man, you're a very genuine guy. And I'm sure you're a lovely parent. I only wish I could've had one like you.

As always, the man is right. I never want to see my parents again. (I've been down that road, and they aren't interested) But the best thing I can do to get back at them is live my life better than they lived theirs! I know it will never go away, but if the people you see everyday don't see misery then it's like it never happened!

i'm sorry for all those things that happened to you.
i don't really remenber "father" without being drunk or passing out.. he arrived home pretty late from work already drunk, and if we'd do something he ddi'nt like (it could be a tiny thing like a sneeze) he 'll strat to break thinks, to hit me, and my older brother. my youngest he only hit a couple of times because he was very young at the time, and most of the times he just hit my brother, and most of them because he'd defend me and face him, so i'll take the beating for me. one time he trow a nife at me (that missed the target) and he broke an arm of my brother. my mother tried to stop him, but he'll beat her too, so most of the times we prefer to take it then watch our mom take. it wasen't all physical violence he'll also say stuff to us like "you are pices of ****! you were accidents you should never been born! you ruined my life"..after he lost his job, it got worse..untill one day he just left. we didn't know if he was dead or alive, and honestly i didn't care as long as he didn't came back. that was about 7/8 years ago..my mom is an icredible women that worked double to raised us and maked shure that nothing was ever missing from us. but now, last moth my "faher" called. he say that is sorry, and he's sober, and he orginized his life again, so he'd like to see us. my older brother wants nothing with him, and really hates the man. my youngest don't remenber him, so he wants to meet him.. my mom says the choice is our, since he can't force us to nothing. i don't really know waht to think. i don't hate him anymore, i just feel sorry, because he was a sick, stupid, and lonely guy who blame the only people who liked him for the mistakes he'd made. but i don't want to see him again. he has nothing to do with the person i become (and thats good) i considered my oncle (that died a couple months ago) almost as my father so....i try to not think about the past very much, although i remenber everything pretty much. i'm still a very insecure guy (even with girlfriends) and i have a lot of problems trusting another person..my best friends are girls...don't know really why, i'm not gay or anything..i just feel bether and safer around them.i'm somethimes silly and try to be the funny one..don't really like to show wehen i'm sad anyway so...now i'm on a serious realationship with a caring tottaly sweet girl that really likes me...i gess i got sorta over now..

i love my mum for everything she has done for me and my life and my future......i hate ma dad for everything he has done to us......he drank a lot and got agressive most of the time....it got better...but u can't forget these things
but i still love him in some ways cause he's ma dad

Well thank you for being proud me, I have to say I'm proud of you too! You've been through alot of crap, basically through hell & back. Takes a heck of a person to still be the kind of person you are today, after that kind of mess.....yes, you're right we are brilliant...Karma-they'll get what they deserve, one way or another.

Boy! You really think like I do,Elmo hun!!! If they can't see it, it's not there. Out of sight, out of mind!! Right?

The_Dark_Puppet- Most of my friends are guys, one of my best friends is a guy, in your case the reason I believe you have girl best friends is because you're more comfortable around them, you trust them more,& it's more comfortable....that's ok......It's sad what your father has done. It sickens me to hear of any parent abusing their children in any way, shape, or form. There's absolutely no excuse for it. 9 out 10 parents who abuse their children, have been abused as a child themselves, that's sad that they couldn't break the cycle....I have a 4 yr.old daughter,& I would NEVER, EVER hit her or abuse her in any way.....I have faith that all of us on here can break the cycle!!!

I plan on having children just so I can treat them right and I will break the cycle. My sister did... she has a 4yr old daughter who is beautiful and she treats her like a princess... cos that's what she is. 😀 And there's another on the way. Another little girl... I can't wait. 🙂

i'm sorry for all of you that passed by all that bad stuff you'd said...
fortunally my parents are not abusing at all..if my dad was absent in most of my childhood was because he was working (as a miner and metalurgic worker ) and with shifts and new places to work, sometimes i didn't see him for weeks..but's taht's ok, becauise i know he was just trying to provide us for a better life than he had..and fortunally my parents are alson not violents, even when my dad drinks a litlle more (witch isn't very often) is what i call the happy drunk..he just do silly things and laughts at him self..witch i'm glad, because he was from a family of 11brothers and sisters, and his father was sorta like your father The_DarK_Puppet, really bad when drunk..i never really know him so.. but if my dad could broke the cycle and became a really good caring father everyone can do it i guess...violence is not a good vengence...as someone said being a good parent and living a happy life is the best vengence you could have to your parents that srewed up. 🙂

They aren't abusing or absent...they just are annoying😛lol

Magui, my girl, you just wrote down the job description for the position of "parent"! Mine were annoying too, but usually they were right when they told me stuff...like "wear clean underwear"...oh...too much information...

I'm beginning to think that there should be a test to see if people should be allowed to have kids...some of the parents mentioned here...Prettyasapictur's comes to mind, among others...are not parents. They are only genetic material donors. I want all of you to try and break the cycle...be better parents than the poor excuses some of you had as parents! My mom and dad were great...not perfect, and I have a few things I wish would have happened, but I swore that I would try to correct those things for my kids...I'm sure they will have regrets too, but if I teach them well, they will do the same as I did and try to be better parents than me and Mrs D. I want that...my grandkids will deserve the best!!!

killerdwarf, I'm thinking along your lines too when it comes to testing people before they become parents. I think every parent has their bad moments, when they say and do things they regret later on. But, I think some fail to realize the impact those things have on us kids (whatever your age may be - I'm almost 19). When my mom gets angry, she says things that, in my opinion, no mother should *ever* say. But, I've come to learn that that's how she expresses her anger - by saying the most hurtful thing she can. She always reiterates the fact that she says things she doesn't mean when she's mad, but that doesn't make it hurt any less. I remember being told that "Everything you do is f***** up!" more times than I can count, and I can't say with all honesty it hasn't done something to me. When you're young, you can't comprehend the fact that sometimes people say things they don't mean. I can't say either one of my parents are *near* as bad as some of the tales on here. There's never been any physical or sexual abuse. Just mental. My mom's been really unhappy with her life lately, and whether or not she means for this to be the case, I feel like I'm the reason for it. I think it's just a mid-life crisis thing. Her and dad aren't getting along at the moment, but that comes and goes. But, I still feel that life would be easier for her if I didn't have college coming up, or, hell, if I wasn't around. It's hard being the kid...especially if you're the only kid.

Soz to take long but I all you said guys made me wanna say something so ...

elmo : I already knew but each time you talk about it I'm like dumbfounded. I respect you so much for the way you reacted to it all, in the past & for how you take it now, willing to help other & all.
I'm very glad that you found a way to lead a great life despite all you went through & I wish you the best luck with Mike !!! *hugs*

angel baby : the last sentence you wrote "But i think that because of all of that its made me stronger and its made me grow up alot which can sometimes be a good thing i guess" is very true, & I'm glad you can see the good despite the bad. it sounds like you didn't have a great childhood, & that's just so nasty how some adult can behave with childs just coz when you're a child no one believe you. I hope that it will get better for you after that & keep your way to think somehow positive, coz it's the best thing to help you to face it all !

Jacklyn : Great that you rebel even tho it had its bad part, coz I guess it's the only way to deal with thois kind of parents. I know exactly what you mean & how you feel about the emotional abuse. & even tho of course it seems less serious than physical abuse, the problems it causes last often very often.
It's hard to work on behaving better when you've been raised into an hostile atmosphere & learnt to behave a certain way to defend yourself, but I hope you'll manage to coz some ppl are really worth to make this effort.
Great that you already manage to gain control, good luck, & time should help, I hope! lol

PrettyasaPictur : WOW ! I donno really what to say coz it sounds so hard, like what elmo went through. It's so unfair that he wasn't judged guilty & I can harldy believe it !!! Really not fair !
Reading this I feel like I wanna congrat you coz it's great that you managed to be who you are after all of this. You amazed me! You deserve really to be happy for the rest of your life & I hope you'll find it. Your way to think is so commendable !

The_Dark_Puppet : I hope your gf will enable you to refind all the confidence you need coz it sounds like it was very hard! What he said is the worst a dad could ever say & it's really a shame that parents tell their child how they shouldn't have been born. That's inhuman coz kids never asked to be born!

YvBaBy : i donno if i would agree with the "blood" thing, like it's not coz someone is from your family that you must love them. You can't forget some things but I hope you'll manage to put them in the drawer & live without them haunting you. 🙂

killerdwarf : I SO AGREE with you. With some friends we've been talking about a test for being parents, half kidding, half serious. Kidding coz it'd be complicated to do such a testI know, but serious coz how useful it would be! Stuff that happened to some kids, & not far since we got example here, is just sooo horrible & you're right !!! They are not parents.

trustno1 : I feel somehow close to you coz we're the same age & it seems like we got the same kind of mother. Mental abuse, again, is maybe as horrible as physical one. Honestly, it maybe seems not, but the things is that it doesn't let visible mark, & that's how it's so serious. I'm NOT telling that one is more than the other, both are just so different.
Your mother shouldn't have said such thing, & she can't hope you to forget thing only coz she says she was angry I guess.
One thing which can work maybe is to try to detach, even tho it's hard. I donno how far it goes for you, but if you don't yet hate your mom, then the better advise I can give you is to detach from her before it gets worst if you feel like it could get that way (like even tho she never kicked you before, she could start). I'm not sure I should tell you that kind of thing coz I'm saying that from my own experience & it's different for everyone, but... just good luck with your mom & don't necessarily take what I said for granted, just as a testimony.

Thanks Frenchy...😛

I really don't hate her. Just her temperment. I've learned to just not hold anything against her, because once she has her spell for a couple days, she's fine. And I do feel bad for her, because she does have to take care of a lot of things around here. I'd be a bit testy too if I had to do the things she does. It's just how she handles it...
