I just find these interviews kinda funny...

Vincent "Connor" Kartheiser on "Angel" & Joss Whedon (2007 GIANT Magazine)
"To me, the character lost its thrill about four episodes in. From there on out I felt like I was doing the same scene over and over and over. Every week I’d show up and have a scene with Cordelia, then Angel would show up and I’d have some sort of conflict with him. There’d be a couple of fight scenes where I’d fight with them even though I didn’t want to and then I would sulk and leave. That to me was every episode. Ultimately, they wrote him into a corner. There was nowhere for him to go."

"I was never a fan of Buffy, I’ll say it straight out. I was never a fan of Angel."

"There was a real sense on Angel that people were just doing a job. (...) would kind of just show up, do their job and go home. On Mad Men, people really love the show and it means something to them.(...) People really care about this project."

"[On Angel] but there was a sense we could do no wrong. We had our audience and regardless of what we did, we were going to keep that audience."

"I always found it hard to say Joss’ words."

"I just don’t think I ever understood the show and my performance suffered because of that."

"I let them know right off the bat that some of the choices they were making [about Conner] were wrong. I showed up to play that character and I had a lot of ideas. And they didn’t like any of those ideas. That’s okay, I’m in the business of having my ideas rejected. But after about 7 or 8 episodes of coming in with ideas and realizing it just didn’t matter, I became really complacent and jaded and angry at the project. I felt like it wasn’t a collaboration, that the people I was working with didn’t care to take risks."

Christian "Lindsey McDonald" Kane on "Angel" & Joss Whedon
But, Kane didn't love Angel referring to Lindsey as a "tiny Texan."

"I got pissed at that. I came up to the director and said, 'This is bulls**t.' He looked at me and said, 'It's not me, Joss [series co-creator Joss Whedon] did it.' Joss likes to take shots at me. He's like, 'I can't build this character up too much without cutting his nuts just a little bit.'

"David doesn't call me that in real life. He knows I'm from Oklahoma. I was born in Texas, but I'm a Sooner. The 'tiny Texan' thing is for the birds. I'm stronger than David, bigger than David, I'm just shorter. But, in real life, if me and B. got into a fight we'd better pack our lunch. The kid knows how to throw. He's a bad boy. He's got a temper. We both do."

Christian Kane is a nutcase, lol, I've seen the proof! He was pissed by of the things Joss did with Lindsey, not least of which was the 'tiny Texan' comment, and the fact that they killed Lindsey in the finale, with no real motive, and by Lorne. Or in his own words 'A [blank] gay kareoke demon.'

And I knew Vinnie never watched the shows, so that wasn't news. A fan asked him and Keith at a Con what their favorite episode was. Keith replied 'Heartthrobe' while Vinnie admitted that he's never watched the show, and the only ep he's seen is the one where Connor was born.

"That’s okay, I’m in the business of having my ideas rejected." um, you're an actor, you're paid to read lines and act them out, you're not the writer or director, you didn't create this character, you just gave him a face and voice. Deal with it.

VK doesn't seem to not like the show enough to turn down the money he gets for all the conventions.

That's 'cause all he does at conventions is get drunk and sleep, lol. Who wouldn't wanna be paid for that? Yeah, so he has to pose for photos with weird obsessed fans like me, lol, but still...

You're going to not be my friend anymore after this but I didn't like him before but after reading that I can't stand him. I mean ungrateful much!

Hm.... I have the feeling that this topic is going to alienate Lyri and I from the rest of the boards far more effectively than any Bangel/Spuffy/Cangel debate ever could. XD

Yeah, but to be fair, he's not the only one who does that. A lot of the stars have been late to early morning photo or auto calls because of hangovers. Or Communion, in Jonathan Woodward's case, lol. (Ok, Jewel Stait had an excuse, it was her birthday)

I couldn't agree more. Why do you and I just go start our own little Connor/Lindsey club? lol

Does Vincent Kartheiser come into every acting job expecting to be treated as the executive producer/head writer's collaborator? Because that's the first problem he needs to look at right there.

The Christian Kane quotes aren't him bashing the show and being blatantly ungrateful, I see no problem with his quotes at all.... but Vincent's?! I never liked Connor, but oh my god, I'm with Kean, now I cannot stand Vincent even a little. If he feels that way about the show that placed him in the public eye (was he in anything significant before Angel?) and opened up for him opportunities such as Mad Men (not that I like his character on there at all either) then its completely hypocritical for him to do conventions and pretend to identify even a little with the fans, while all along he's probably looking down on them, I mean he has to be if he can't comprehend why someone would like the shows. I'm honestly kind of appalled, I can't stand hypocrites...

Oh I don't care if he came to work flutered everyday singing Danny Boy my problem was the manner in which he spoke about the show, like it was nothing. That's rude and disrespectful and not very classy.

Actors bad mouthing the (quality) shows that gave them their shot strikes a nerve with me...I can't stand it.

Agreed.It pisses me of
I don't think he was looking at it like that. Sometimes, certain writers/producers will look at how an actor plays the character and develop that character based on that. Maybe Vinnie was trying to do something with the character that he thought Joss might want to work on, and Joss didn't like that, so he shot him down and told him to play the character how he wrote it.

That's very Joey Tribiani of him though isn't it?

Another thing to remember with the CK quotes is that he really is very informal and friendly when it comes to talking to the fans or interviewers. He doesn't always try to do that hollywood thing where every project was like "family", and everyone got along on set and really loved their work and oh-my-god-my-teeth-are-rotting-as-I-speak. So things he says tend to be a bit more like good natured jibes and teasing. I don't think I've ever seen an interview where he was completely serious.

exactly, I saw no arrogance or deaming intentions in his quotes or anytime i've ever read or heard speak of the show.
I realize I'm never going to win this argument, being the only Connor fan on the face of the planet, but Vinnie's not the only one who goes to conventions who acts like this. Morena Baccarin springs to mind. I didn't like her much when I met her, she was cold and distant. She didn't talk about Firefly/Serenity much, and spent her sechuald talk time staring at us because she had run out of things to say. Even in the autograph sessions, she never looked up at us once, and instead chatted with her boyfriend while we cued for a hour to get her to sign our pics.

I love Vinnie, you guys know that. I've met him twice, and I found him both times to be extremely charming. Apart from the one comment about never having seen an ep, he has never had a bad thing to say about 'Angel', or Connor. In fact, it's because of what Vinnie said about Connor that he's my favorite character.

Agreed. Nothing worse than an actor who thinks he's more than well - an actor. Actors are paid to read the lines and be directed by the director. He sounds like he would be a real pain to work with. If he doesn't want to be told what to do, then he's in the wrong profession.

Because you are my Lyri I am not going to fight you on this cuz I know that you love VK to the heights I love Bangel. So I am going to stand by what I said but keep an open mind that maybe he has some redeembale qualities because he must of you can like him so much.

That's as nice as I can be😀

Hmmmm....is this an admission that love of Bangel is as irrational as love of VK?!? STOP THE PRESSES!
This is something that always annoys me about actor's. The willingness to make jibes or put down the people who gave them a job, and a launching pad for their careers. Even Charisma Carpenter who i love to bits, has been very dis-respectful in the past. I hate what was done to Cordelia, no doubt, but the truth is, that Joss gave them employment for years, which allowed them to buy homes, cars, pretty much live, and gave them roles to put on their cv's. It's this sense of self importance, that they are more, than the people that made them. Always bugs me, always will. How many unemployed actors are there in Hollywood, be thankful, you got work in the first place. Rant over.

Lindsey McDonald agrees: Hmmmm....is this an admission that love of Bangel is as irrational as love of VK?!? STOP THE PRESSES!

No, no, no, no ,no!!! Nice try my friend but think again. I am simply admitting that I love Bangel as much as Lyr loves VK. Irrationality wasn't even mentioned. Is loving VK irrational? Absolutely! Just as irrational as loving Spuffy, Cangel and Killow!
