For me this has been one of the only threads that hasn't been about Spuffy hate, more like Bangel defense! lol
That's right, this is about Spuffy love and the genuine desire to help our poor, misguided, deluded Bangel brothers and sisters. We only want the best for you.
Seriously, how many Spuffy fans do you ever hear tell a Bangel shipper that Buffy NEVER loved Angel, that he tried to murder her and her friends, that she only used him to satisfy her own desires for self torture by entering into a degrading, perverted relationship based on nothing but pure animal lust, that when she told him that she loved him, she only meant that she loved him as a friend, that he was, at best, her best friend and strongest supporter, but he was never IN LOVE with him? (Whew! How's that for a run on scentence?)
I, and just about every Spuffy shipper that I know, both here and elsewhere, have no trouble whatsoever accepting the fact that Buffy was in love with Angel, or even that, as her first love, she will always love him. Where we differ is in the fact that we believe that Buffy was also in love with Spike. That he was there for her when she needed him the most, that he never willingly abandoned her the way so many others did. That he defended her and believed in her, just the same as she defended and believed in him. We believe that, while theirs might not be the storybook Beautiful Princess and Prince Charming romance that Buffy saw with Angel, it was just as real, just as vital, and just as passionate. No, it wasn't love at first sight, very few love affairs are. It was the kind of love that grows and strengthens with time. We believe that, though it took longer for Buffy to realize the fact, she was, sincerely and absolutely, in love with Spike.
Angel was Buffy's first love, and first loves are vitally important to everyone, for one very basic reason. Without a first love, there can never be a second love. Or a third, or a tenth. First love is the foundation that a person's entire ability to love is built on. It HAS to be there, otherwise the very capacity for love withers and dies. That is why Buffy will always love Angel. We Spuffies simply believe that Buffy is capable of loving two, or even more, people. We don't put limits on her love.
We're the ones who have to defend our beliefs, not the Bangels. We know that Buffy loves Angel. We also believe that she is capable of being in love with Spike just as much just as much, in a different but still equal way. That's where we differ.
(And now I promise not to preach any more sermons in a thread that is supposed to be for fun, not confrontation)
