I was never really a fan of Willow for some reason (though I didn't dislike her either). But as Lily I totally love Alyson Hannigan! I think that part is a lot better fitting for Aly than Willow. I'm not saying she did a bad job as Willow, just that I think she can pull Lily better off.

What are everyone else's thoughts on this? Considering Willow is quite the popular character, I'm expecting some criticism...
 
I think she pulls both off very well. I'm a fan of both characters and also of Aly because I think she is a really talented actress.

Somehow I connect the two roles with her age though. I can't picture now-Alyson playing Willow or the 10 years younger-Alyson playing Lily. Maybe I connect the two characters too much with the actress but I'm glad she didn't play the roles (or roles like them since obviously 35 year old Alyson wouldn't play 17 year old Willow - I hope) the other way around. If that makes any sense whatsoever. It's insane troll logic.

I was a really big fan of HIMYM for the first few seasons and thought Aly was great. However in the last season or so (really since she took leave to be preggers) I think they've lost the voice of the character or something because she is just not that funny anymore 🙁

I feel the same way about the Robin/Barney relationship, it robbed the funny from both of them.


I prefer Aly as a horny band student but exempting that, I think I do prefer her as Willow personally.
 
Yeah i prefer Aly as Lilly. I've only started watching Himym, we're just getting season 2 over here ( on E4 anyways)

Since I'm a big Willowlover some might come from me. 😉

As a character I like Willow better than Lily even if I don't mind Lily. But that doesn't mean she does the best work as Willow. That's two different things. And I'm not really sure where she does her best work. Being more experienced now you could think it would be as Lily but I won't take either side in a discussion like that. Since I don't think she plays any of the characters bad I'm not good enough to make such judgement. Having a different opinion doesn't make someone deserve critism. Coming with silly arguments might. But since you haven't done any of those no critism from me.
 
I like both characters, I agree with what you said Wesley, that it has lost some of it's humor.

But I think the episode that aired on Monday got back to the old funny of the how, It was seriously funny, and most of that was Barney and Lily!
 
I love her on HIMYM because she pretty much is just a big perv but she is also lovable at the same time. I love how pushy she is with Marshall and how she pretty much does whatever she wants. I also love that she is school teacher. So sweet.

I think Alyson was great as Willow and that she now does a great job as Lily.

It's really hard to compare two different characters on two different shows like that.
I will just call it a tie...

I like her as Willow. I mean I like Willow in first 3 season more, but well.. then I saw American Pie and Aly totally surprised me. I mean she was all.. different. But I like her as Lily. I don't know who I love more, Willow or Lily, but I love them both in different way.
 
I gotta say I love both Lily and Willow. But to be honest, the only reason I started watching HIMYM was because I loved how alyson played Willow and just assumed she was going to do an awsome job as Lily...which she has so far!
 
Caught Aly as a stripper in the recent episode, what a revelation although I'd have liked a more revealing costume and seeing more of her act. Her Russian accent isn't bad either

lol, they probably would have done a more revealing outift if it weren't for Aly having just had her baby. She felt embarassed suppossedly
I prefer Willow over Lily... I think Lily can get a little annoying at times, I much prefer Robin on HIMYM.

That said, Willow is my favorite character in the Buffyverse, and I think Alyson is a fantastic actor.
 
I do happen to like Aly in both roles. I do feel she was the right and best choice for both. She is so talented and she can pull off so many different things. I even loved her in American Pie. I will never never forget the first time I saw that movie. When she announced "One time at band camp, I stuck a flute in my pu**y." I fell off the couch! I could not believe that Willow said that! In my defense I was like 12 and Willow was my favorite charictor. But even with that shock factor and how diffrent the roles were I do believe she filled both of them perfectly.

I didn't fall off the couch, but I scream-laughed and my sister yelled at me cause our older sister was asleep in the other room, but she laughed to cause she thought my reaction was funny
I prefer Willow over Lily actually. I never really got into Lily's character even if I find her amusing at times.
 
My husband and I are working our way thru both BtVS (his first time :-O) and HIMYM (only in the beginning of s2-- both our first times watching it start to finish-- err, current)... Aaanyway!
We have this idea that HIMYM could be a Willow spinoff. 😛 It sounds wonky, I know, and I'm half asleep writing this, so forgive me if it's incoherent. 😛 We think:
Once Oz left (Willow's freshman year), she could have met Marshall instead of Tara (Lily met Marshall freshman year), and the story would play on from there. There are /so many/ times we see/hear Lily, and think 'OMG, THAT was a Willow line!'
...and Lily did always say she wanted that 'college lesbian experience'. 😛

(Ooh, and I just realized what I did by posting here: I opened myself up to HIMYM spoilers! D: ...I obviously can't request no one post about post-s1 HIMYM in a HIMYM-related topic, buuut, could I at the very least request no spoilers in direct reply to my above post? Ie: 'Oh yeah! And like in s3 of HIMYM, when Marshall dies, Lily goes crazy evil trying to avenge his death THE SAME WAY SHE DID WITH TARA!' ;-P 'preciate it, folks!)
 
I love Alyson as Willow but i have to say after seeing How i Met your Mother i have to say i LOVE Alyson as Lily. Lily is an awesome character and i think Alyson plays her brilliantly 🙂
 
Just caught AH on That 70s show, very cute in her cops uniform, really prefer her with red hair
