I think most people who like Angel do so in part because of his flaws rather than despite them.
Even on his own show Angel is still learning how to live in the real world, to interact with people and form close bonds. So he makes mistakes, but he normally means well and has that need to help others
And it is the whole package of the flawed hero. The flaws make them more interesting and there is still the inner moral code or desire for redemption and the struggle to do the right thing.
When it comes too easy most characters become a bit bland. Ive never understood why some people want their favourite characters to be perfect and will blindly defend them over everything. Just because you occasionally criticize a character doesn’t mean you like them any less
