I can't wait personally. It's like a tradition to watch Idol...I just love that show so much. I get bored mid season though as the auditions are the best part.

Anyone else who can't wait? And better yet, is there anyone from the boards who tried out? If you did I'll be watching for you. 😉

It starts January 15, by the way.

What will kill this show quickly is if it stops being American Karaoke and the contestants have to do their OWN material. And no,being a human beat box does not count as "own material." But,knowing the tastes of the American viewing people,it'll be a bigger success.

I gave up on this show after Season 3.
 
I don't watch this obviously cos I don't live in america but I watch X Factor sometimes 😛

I agree the auditions are the best part, after that it just gets boring 🙁
 
You could still watch it, ITV show it in England TV3 in Ireland. I watch the auditions cuz they're are hilarious in a sadistic kinda way.

Because it actually has worth. It's not just some trashy reality show, it's a show that let's truly gifted people get recognized when they wouldn't otherwise. I haven't really liked any of the recent winners except Carrie Underwood - but I don't listen to her because I'm not a country fan. But I love Chris Daughtry, and I think Kelly Clarkson is truly gifted.

Plus it serves as a great launching pad for new FOX shows.

Personally I watch the audition episodes every year. I have the audition episodes from season six on my computer still and ironically I watched one last night. The judges are great and I love their reactions to people, especially when they're trying to be somewhat polite and are fighting back laughter.

Anyway this show is so huge, I think, because partly it lets people fulfill their dreams, some people get hope from it, a lot of people apparently only watch the audition episodes because ratings always drop a few million after the competition starts, and people like to choose who will be the next big thing in the music industry.

I really don't see why people are so hard on American Idol, it's not like it does ANY harm to anyone, except maybe the deluded people who think they're great singers.

I can't see this show going away anytime soon, I think it will easily reach 13 or so seasons.

I looked them up on YouTube, they're OK. I actually think I prefer Ryan. I know people love to hate him but I think he's funny. (When hosting the audition eps of AI anyway.)
 
American Idol can get campy and annoying. Some of the contestants are little contrived. Paula can get really scary sometimes. America makes weird decisions sometimes, and some that just don't make any sense. I absolutely detest Ryan Seacrest with a burning passion...

But you know what?

I'm not going to miss any of it. I've watched it since the second season and it never fails to disappoint. It's made quite a few regular people INCREDIBLY rich and famous. Chris Daughtry, Kelly Clarkson, and Carrie Underwood just to name a few. This show isn't dying ANYTIME soon.
 
Why do so many people loathe Ryan? I think he's pretty witty, and it seems like he thinks all his funny lines up himself. I guess that's pretty much the only reason I like him though...
 
He just annoys the crap out of me. I mean, I guess it's one of those things I can't quite put my finger on. I just know that if I knew him in real life, I would shun him for shear annoyance.
 
I've only watched this show for the last two seasons, but I vowed never again to lay eyes upon it after last season's utter travesty. Talent competition? That's a joke. It is and always will be just a popularity contest, unworthy of the truly talented.
