Anya in Season 8

I don't either and that's one of my biggest complaints about season 8. They completely forgot about Anya who was one of my favorite characters.

I think her name was mentioned when they explained about Xander becoming friends with Dracula, but I'm not sure. Something about how he hung out with Drac cause he was trying to get over her death...

Yeah she was mentioned when they explained dracula and hooked him up with Renee but still other then that it was like Anya who? Oh I dont know the love of Xanders life!! Geesh -__-

I've always loved Anya, and I think she totally got the shaft in both her death in season 7, and being completely overlooked and ignored in season 8. Nobody seemed to care that she died, and conisdering that she was on the show from Season 3 till the end, to me that's doing her character a great injustice.

Well, hasn't it been at least a year or two since 'Chosen'? I think it's natural to stop mentioning deceased loved ones after a while - though I would've liked to have seen Buffy and Xander reminisce about Spike and Anya respectively.
As much as I like Anya, I think it's questionable whether she was the love of his life - she spent an entire afternoon trying to 'wish-murder' him in 'Entropy' and later said she clung to him as a substitute for wreaking vengeance.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Did anyone even give or show any feelings on how Anya died? No. Nobody seemed to care, making it look as if she was never there in the first place.
Tara died in 'Seeing Red', and she was brought up. She was even in a flashback. Was Anya in a flashback? Nope. Not at all.

Didn't Emma Caulfield specifically request being killed off in the most human way possible so that her character COULDN'T be brought back? I recall something about Emma saying that she didn't want Anya to be in any future incarnations of the show, so she asked Joss to kill her.
I'll see if I can find the story, but if this is true, then maybe Joss is just following Emma's wishes. I get that he's the creator of these characters, but he could be just being nice.

I always assumed that was just because Emma didn't want to come back and she wanted the character out so there would be no need for her to come back. At the time the series ended Angel was still on the air and no one knew what other spin offs such as a Faith show might have been coming in the future. She, like many of the other actors, really seemed like she wanted to try something else that wasn't Buffy.
She also wasn't planning to come back for season 8 if there was one which may have been when she asked to kill Anya off. If she didn't die, there would likely be people wanting her to come back at some point in season 8. I think once they decided to end the show, things like this were completely different than if there would have been a season 8.
When the show ended, it really seemed like all the actors were starting to feel a little locked into the same role, so she wanted out. She may have a completely different opinion on Anya and the comics than she did on her version of Anya eight years ago when she was Anya and was feeling like she wanted to get away from the show and have the opportunity to play new and different roles.

I'm really pissed about that, Anya is my favorite character in both BtVS and AtS, it was already incredibly stupid for her death to be ignored in "Chosen", but for another full season to pass by and Joss again chooses to ignore Anya? Something is wrong with him...

I completely agree. I love Anya too, and to see her death being forgotten about right after it happened was unbelievable -.- it made me SO angry. I expected a little more than a couple of lines about her at the end of Chosen. Plus the fact that she was barely mentioned in season 8 makes it worse. Pah, Joss, pah. 🙁

Other than a few fantasies about Spike, he wasn't ever mentioned either, nor were any of the others who never made it out of the hellmouth. Probably the subject was just still too painful, and the sense of loss too great, to bring up. I could see that as being especially true for Anya, out of deferment to Xander's feelings. Even though he was trying to move on with Renee, Anya was still almost certainly a tender subject.

That was my take on it too. It was completely too painful for Xander, so they simply didn't talk about her much.

I have yet to read ANY of the comic books... everytime I look at something ABOUT the comic books, I am greatly disapointed... seriously, they brought Buffy back from the dead twice, they couldn't throw Anya a bone?! :-(

It could have had something to do with timing issues whilst filming Chosen. They had so much to put in that sentiments were pushed to the side - rather concentrating on those that survived. I must admit I was devastated when she died because I felt her and Xander were onto a new start. However I do not think her character would have transfered easily to Angel. However, I do agree she should have been mentioned more in the comics if this is not the case.
