Anya's Death

I think the first time I ever watched Anya die (which was like two years after Chosen aired) I was like, "Um...ok..." Because I didn't actually know who Anya was yet. I started watching the WB ones when it was in season one, and I started watching Buffy on FX during like season 2. Then I stopped watching FX cuz of school and when I finally got to see it again it was Chosen so I didn't know who Anya was. Now that I look back on it, though, it doesn't surprise me. Angel's death, Tara's death, Joyce's death (the hardest), and Anya's death weren't all that...tragic...maybe because Buffy shows that people can come back and maybe thats why deaths in the Buffyverse aren't all that...well...tragic.

Tara never came back. And I don't recall anyone else ever coming back, either. Didn't they say in the show you can only die if you're killed by mystical forces? Therefore Joyce, Tara, or Anya are dead dead dead. The only way they're coming back is as a ghost.
 
Alright. I finally finished the seventh season, and now have seen every episode of "Buffy". I just watched Chosen. I had seen this episode before, a long time ago on FX. Without seeing any other season seven episodes, so the episode didn't have that much effect on me. And when Anya died I was upset because I liked her, based on previous episodes. I realized just now that I didn't see her actually die, but just the scene where we see her lying in the rubble.

The entire episode I felt dread, knowing Anya was going to die, but when I saw her get cut in half, I was still shocked. And I got extremely upset. I was upset for the rest of the episode. Still am, actually. I even teared up. Then I stopped to enjoy the epic awesomeness of the battle scenes. Then for some stupid reason I continued to tear up when Spike dusted, even though I know three months later he comes back, and then when we see Anya's body, I teared up EVEN MORE. The worst of it came when Xander and Andrew were talking about her. At no point was I weeping and I didn't have a flow of tears...my eyes just got really, extremely wet. The whole episode was sort of sad. And it was the last episode...that also contributed to the tears.

But I'm over it now. Moving on....

That's true...his reaction did feel really fake and insincere. That stupid one-eyed bastard.
 
When Anya lost her vengeance powers for the second time, I had a feeling they would kill her off, she didn't really serve much of a purpose but to argue with everyone and try to help when she felt like it, don't get me wrong, I love Anya--one of my favorites--but after Selfless, she didn't really get utilized much except for her death in Chosen....
 
I think Andrew should have died instead of Anya. The Buffyverse will not be the same without Anya. She is newly-human and strangely literal.
 
But Andrew rocked as well. Neither should have died. They should have killed off a Scooby. Anya and Andrew were excellent together. They're wheelchair fight? Classic.
 
Yeah, Don't get me wrong, i love Andrew too, but didnt they say it was going to be a toss up between Anya and Andrew? The shoulda killed Dawn, or that principal guy...
 
Or Xander...he would've been a nice alternative. AND Robin Wood. Dawn? Heck no, I liked Dawn.
 
Joss would have never killed any of the core scoobies. But if one had to go, then yeah, id picked Xander.

actually, when joss and the writers were discussing what to do to xander to shake up the scoobies before the big fight, they were considering killing him. instead they just decided to poke his eye out, but it shows they might've killed off one of the core characters.
 
^ yeah i guess Xander is pretty dispensible...but not. I still think that Joss knew the uproar that would have occured if any of the core scoobies died.
 
Maybe the show needed that uproar. I don't know,anya, she was my favorite. I loved her ever since she first came on. When she died it made me really sad, we didn't know much about her until that awsome episode "Selfless". Xander should have died.
 
I always knew there was no chance of Willow dying. Joss seemed to be clutching at her so I never expected her to die. After all wasn't there rumours of an idea about an 8th season with Willow taking the lead and Buffy only appearing every now and then? That wouldn't be so good...it wouldn't even be 'Buffy the vampite slayer' for goodness sake!

I thought it would be either Xander, Anya or Dawn who would die in the end core-wise but was still heartbroken that it was Anya. Though to be honest, I wouldn't have wanted Dawn to die either because as much as my loathing of her in Seasons 5 & 6, I grew to like her in Season 7. She came into her own and wasn't just Buffy's whiny little sister, she grew up, was given the chance to get involved and I liked that.
 
I always felt Xander was the glue of that group, killing him off would have destroyed them all. Dawn couldn't die either, if she had, that would have destroyed Buffy. The Death of Dawn would have been Buffy's ultimate failure, not a good way to end one of the best series ever. Anya was the right choice and she died a good death, the death of a human fighting to survive. The death I found most disturbing was the earlier death of Tara. Ouch!

I know 🙁 I really wish contractual things could have worked out so Amber could have returned for the seventh season at the end like the original plan was, that would have been amazing! 🙁
 
Oh no death for Giles! I :love2: Giles, I didn't really like Anya until season seven.. she grew on me in Selfless and jeez it was about time to have an Anya-centric episode so we could understand her more.
