I don't know Jenny. I'm not sure if starting with that episode might not be a mistake. It has kind of a different flavour than the rest.

Also it might be a little like starting Buffy with Tabula Rasa. If you know all the reference points, you get it, but if you don't you might fixate on stuff like the guy in the rubber shark's head, and say this is foolish.

Also it's what I'd call typical Fury in that there's parts where you don't know if your supposed to laugh, or get creeped out.

Lost in general does seem to be at it's best right about now though, and I think you can still get into it here then catch up later. I wonder if there will be reruns in the summer.

Oh and Jacklyn, no way will I play those numbers. It's an interesting question though. Would you want to win the lottery on those terms?

BTW, was it here I read that article explaining how the writers chose what charactercentric episode they were going to write by drawing names from a hat?

Aren't you glad Fury drew Hurley? It was worth the wait.

And, 2 Whedon writers writing episodes almost back to back. Maybe that's why Lost is peaking. 🙂

That was my idea too..I'm 99.999999% sure they will start re-running it from episode 1 over the summer. So I am thinking that may be the best time..start in fresh and new. But Jacks is so convincing too!!! 😀

After they showed the scene where Hurley wins the lottery, my boyfriend was like "ooh gotta play those numbers", but after we saw what happened next he took it back real quickly.

The biggest "shiver" scene for me is when we see those numbers written on the side of the hatch...

One of the ladies I work with thinks they all died and went to purgatory where they are waiting to resolve their final issues and move on (die)...I thought that was interesting.

I forget where I saw heard, or read this, (I think it was on a talk show), but one of, I think it was the Lost actors, said the purgatory theory was the most popular one out there, but he was almost sure that wasn't the case. I forget why.

Not that that means anything, I just thought it was interesting.

Oh wait. I remember now. It was the guy from LOTR that plays Charlie. It was on the Late night talk show that follows Conan.

Yeah, but I saw some stuff I didn't connect with the first time.

Locke worked at a box factory. Hurley owned a box factory.

The first time I saw Hurley walk away from that backgammon game telling the kid he'd get his $20,000, I thought Hurley was just being sarcastic, but now it turns out 20 grand is chump change for Hurley, and he probably does plan to pay the kid off.

Oooh interesting!! I didn't make those connections...probably because I turned off the TV all mad that it was a repeat and watched part of American Dreams before passing out 🙂

Like in the Buffy episode along similar lines.

I didn't make the connection with the box factory but chances are it probably is the same one. Especially since we have seen connections between Jack, his father and Sawyer.

I'm totally loving Lost, I bet you can't guess who my fave is 😀

On looks alone, Boone is the hottest by far.

I kind of like Charlie in terms of his character though...he's got a dark side, but when he really cares about something or someone, he shows it.

I have a soft spot for Charlie, have done since the start.

I did find the Hurley episode the creepiest. Trying to understand why. I think it's sort of like the creep factor folks get with a ouija board. You can't quite tell what is at work there. Is it just collective human psychology, pushing the arrow around the board? Or some unseen evil force directing things?

Also makes you question the idea of free will itself. Do humans have any control over their lives and actions at all? Or is it just a matter of numerical formulae, or chemical reactions in a brain, etc.

It is neat the way we slowly discover these characters had unknown relationships with eachother, unknown to themselves even. Sort of like a Robert Altman film. You think you're watching a series of unrelated vignettes. Slowly, it dawns on you: "Hey, all these people actually know eachother!". Like a really creepy version of "Short Cuts".

I think thats the beauty of it because it can be both, it all depends on what side you fall. I consider myself to be pretty logical but I never ignore possibilities. The human mind is the most powerful tool, its like a book, how do you expect to use it if you don't open it?

I would say to a certain extent yes. We make decisions based on the choices we have available to us. But we cannot always control the choices that we have available to us.
