Are you guys into any vampire-related shows besides Buffy?

Buffy and Angel are the only ones that I really watch, but because I'm so into them I've been thinking about giving True Blood or The Vampire Diaries a shot. Are they any good, for those who are in the know (which, clearly, does not include me)?

I saw the Colin Farrel vamp movie, Fright Night, not too long ago and thought it was decent. Whenever I see vampire-themed works outside the Buffyverse though, I'm always nit-picky with the details though. And whenever there's a badass vampire running around, I tend to think to myself "man, Buffy/Angel/Spike would beat the hell out of this guy".

Well, I love True Blood 🙂 I love both the books and the show.

I enjoy the story and I love the characters. It can be totally campy and silly and it doesn't have the intelligence of Buffy but I still like it. Part of the reason I do though is because of the silliness, it makes me laugh all the time. Sure it has deeper meanings and everything, but it doesn't take itself too seriously and can be just pure entertainment. Also, there are some pretty guys to look at which is always a plus for me, 😉 haha.

I do watch The Vampire Diaries but I'm not particularly committed to it or anything. Its probably a bit more serious than TB and stuff, but it just doesnt make me care as much. But it is still entertaining 🙂

I think you should at least give both those shows a shot. I was totally against both TB and TVD before I actually watched them and I was suprised by how much I've come to like them 🙂

Nope, not at all. I was never a fan of vampire stories in the first place. It was just the simple fact that Buffy was in a league of its own. When a story is good, that stuff doesn't even matter.

I love vampire stuff. Been watching TVD almost since it started and I used to watch True Blood.

Vampire Diaries: The basic idea is good, but you have to really commit to the show if you want to keep watching because sometimes the story is just pitiful. Best advice I can give you? Don't pick a favorite brother because it'll mess up your mind if you care more about one or the other. Some characters are greatly written (Jeremy!) and others are just... well I don't want to use the word pathetic, but it's the only one that comes to my mind.

True Blood: I liked it, up until the current season. I just find everyone annoying and I think having ______ killing _______ just so they could match her with ______ was stupid. (gotta keep the suspense if you decide to watch)

I think the best way you can make your own opinion of the shows is by watching the first few episode of each.

By the way, not an entirely vampire show, but if you aren't watching Supernatural yet, give it a try. One of the best shows I've watched since Buffy. 😉

Not really. I like the old Dracula movies and Blade and From Dusk Till Dawn is awesome, but apart from that not so much. I like vampires in general, but there simply isn't much out there that's interesting to me.
If I was a movie writer/director, I'd make some badass vampire movie. More old school, but rated X for violence 😀 Oh, and a werewolf movie.

I like True Blood a lot. The season arcs are good, it has an excellent mixture of comedy and drama and the cast is amazing. The supporting cast, for me, is the best on TV at the moment. Definitely give it a shot.

I didn't get on with The Vampire Diaries at all. I watched the first 12 episodes because I wanted to give it a fair chance, but it wasn't for me.

I watched all of S1 and a couple episodes from S2 of Tru Blood, but I haven't really watched anymore since, I dunno I just went off it a little. Maybe I'll try and get back into it perhaps, but for the moment I've got enough shows to catch up on.

I do however watch The Vampire Diaries, I actually started reading the books first and then really got into the first four or so and decided to check out the series and I love it. I'm definitely a Stefan/Elena fan but I also ship Elijah/Elena, cause no matter what anyone says there is something there under the surface there between them. Even if it's not quite entirely romantic, but even Daniel Gillies sort of wants something to happen. Definitely not a Damon/Elena shipper at all, I don't like Damon for a start but I just really don't want them to get together. Even though it appears that they probably will.

I haven't watched Buffy in absolutely ages, might have to have a re-watch at some point.

I'm a big Jensen Ackles fan, but to tell you the truth I've never watched Supernatural. They film it outside my parents house all the time in Vancouver, and I've met Jensen a few times. He's a really cool guy. I liked him a lot in Smallville and he starred in an animated Batman movie I like a lot (Red Hood). It's a show I've always been meaning to watch, and for kind of a cult favorite, it's sure been on a long time.

Then you really need to watch it. I watched it for the first time this winter (had to catch up on 6 1/2 seasons) and it was so worth it I watched it all over again 2 months later 😉 Sam and Dean's is the best (and probably the worst at the same time, for them) brother relationship I've ever seen in a tv show.

And I beg for nobody to throw rocks at me, but Kripke's the new Whedon on TV these days (even if he's not much invested in the show anymore). 😀

I watch True Blood regularly. I wasn't crazy about it at first, but it grew on me and I'm really liking this season.

I just started watching The Vampire Diaries this summer. It's fairly entertaining and I suspect I'll watch it when it returns in the fall.

The vampire element isn't what made me give either of these shows a shot, I watched more based on actors I liked and recommendations from friends. Vampires are neat, but I'm not interested in them enough it watch any and every tv show and/or movie about them.

I enjoyed the (sadly) now defunct "Moonlighting" quite a bit, despite the fact that, as a show about a vampire P I in Los Angeles, it might be accused of being a rip off of "Angel," and "Forever Knight" had a certain appeal, though I was never a truly devoted fan. And, though not "vampire related, I enjoy "Grimm" and "Teen Wolf" both of which definitely share elements with characters from Whedon's universe.

The current rash of vampire movies, books, and TV shows just don't appeal to me, though.

I really enjoy the Sookie Stackhouse novels but the True Blood show- notsomuch. I like the actors but the seasons drag on so much. They take a single novel and build a whole season out of it. I got annoyed & bored. I do like the Underworld movies.

Since I couldn't answer it all in rep, here is:

Try watching at the start of S2 (I can fill you in with details you need to know about S1 in PM), it might catch your interest better because that's when the bigger mythology comes in the show. It won't be just demon-of-the-week by then (though they tend to keep that idea throughout the show because it is its essence).

Supernatural is worth watchign even if just for the cliff-hangers. I thought my heart would explode at the end of season 1, 3 and 5. And 7 wasn't too kind either to poor me.

What is classified as a "vampire show"? The main character has to be a vampire?

I loved Moonlight. Mick/Beth are a great ship.

I enjoyed True Blood's first three seasons.

And of course, Being Human. A gem of a show. Technically, that's not a vampire show, per say, but there is a vampire in the cast.

I love Lost Boys that is properly my favourite movie with the Dracula movies the good ones.

For a guilty pleasure and kiddie movie it be The Little Vampire it's so cute ^_^

I like Fright Night the new version, it was decent not amazing but I like it.

Twilight I liked the books but I can't stand the films now I use to live with it but now I don't know it's gone BOOM!

For programmes there isn't really any vampire programmes I like as there are too many in my honset opinon, I did like True Blood the first 3 seasons but then it went flop and the same with The Vampire Diaries I use to love it and now it's gone flat in my opinon.

I recently been watching a old vampire programme that I watched one episode in 2001 called Vampire High it's very cheesy teenage vampire show but I like it Twilight and Vampire Diaries stole a lot of things from this show haha.

Supernatural is "meh", I've watched the first 6 seasons and it has some decent stand alones but the characters and acting are above average, for sure. Overall the stories aren't anything special, the real appeal of the show in my opinion is how they bounce between horror and comedy

It is quiet long though, going into its 8th season. I would recommend checking out Breaking Bad and Game of Thrones if you haven't (no vampires, but amazing shows lol)

I tend to be a fan of the vampire genre, I blame it all on Bram Stoker's Dracula, Anne Rice and of course The Lost Boys.

I'll watch every vamp movie I can find more or less, knowing that the majority are absolute crap.

As for Tv-shows I haven't been sold on many except for Btvs but I have (given second chances) come to really enjoy both True Blood and Vampire diaries, definitley worth watching.

(and Supernatural rocks, I looove that show, especially s1-5) 🙂

First of all, I really think Buffy & Angel are by far the best vamp tv shows - but that's just me!
I liked the first couple of seasons of True Blood, they were silly but fun. From season 3 onwards I thought it lost the plot a bit. Too many subplots, too many characters, nothing made sense, so much focus on the shagging it became cheesy. It was like the show was on speed.
Haven't seen The Vampire Diaries but I'd like to give it a go.
I enjoyed both the original and remake of Fright Night. The first Lost Boys is a classic. I liked Interview with the Vampire. I found the books ok but a little melodramatic. Dusk till Dawn is fun. Dracula is pretty good.
Supernatural is a weird one. I want to love it. I've watched 5 seasons so far. I like the funny episodes but they often take themselves a little too seriously. I'm beginning to suspect I'm only watching it for the hot guys...
