I dislike Cangel because it feels inorganic and forced not because I feel that the ship is an insult to Bangel.
I feel like it's an insult to Buffy. If she were to find out about it when she was severely depressed, she'd commit suicide. Spike wouldn't be helping her out by having an easy lay with her. Willow wouldn't be able to resurrect her because Buffy didn't die a mystical death. The network and David Greenwalt weren't thinking in AtS Season 3. Fred and Lorne were idiots.

Jesus, you think so little of Buffy you honestly believe that she would commit suicide because her ex-boyfriend fell for Cordelia? Just ... wow. Buffy is a lot stronger than that. She knew that she and Angel were leading different lives and would become close to and fall for different people. She may not have liked it but she definitely would not have tried to kill herself over it.

I disagree with you wholeheartedly, and you obviously don't understand depression and being suicidal.

So you expect him to stay alone forever in respect of her feelings - while she is having plenty of fun with Riley, Spike etc?
So maybe I should leave my husband now in respect for my ex's feelings as he was really sad when I left? (not for a new one, just break up)

I don't think so little of Buffy. I'm just saying her mind wasn't in the right place, and a situation like Cangel would make it worse on top of everything. Also Angel left Buffy for a REASON, so you can't have him 'fall' for a woman was ungrateful towards her in the past. If anything I can go to Buffy in the episode Halloween, and tell her insecurities are right. The writers in Season 3 of Angel have lost their minds. Why go out of the way saying Angel can't be with Buffy because he CAN'T be in a relationship / to work on a separate mission at the same time having Angel and Willow telling us that Buffy doesn't have to worry about? It doesn't make any sense.

Some people out there are comfortable with being single while having a great family. Angel's problems with Buffy - meaning having to leave her, APPLIES TO EVERY RELATIONSHIP he's in. The thing with Cordy lacks logic and and common sense. Darla, he already has history with, so he can't help that. With Nina, I don't know what that is.

Buffy doesn't have relationship restrictions like Angel does. Plus Buffy didn't love Riley the way she did Angel. It took her forever to come to terms of having love for Spike.

Why do you think there's no logic? Cordelia became a grown-up, nice, caring woman. So I see no reason not to find attraction to her.

I don't find any logic in Spike + Buffy on the other hand. I mean.. Spike.. c'mon.. Nah..

I agree about Spike.

From what I hear, Cordelia's growing into a nice caring woman was forced. Some have argued she changed from who she was & became Buffy-light to make her compatible with Angel. Even going blond. To have her go from normal Cordy to Lord Saint Cordy just to make Angel falling for her possible. So many aren't feelings it because it was no longer even Cordelia, or seemed like a natural evolution / growth of her.

Someone who watched Angel can break it down better. But from what I have read, it sounds like a mess. And I am glad I chose to avoid Angel, because I never liked Cordelia anyway. Some them trying to hype up Cordelia as this saintly ass-kicking goddess who can solo the entire world as Angel's deepest & greatest love does sound annoying as Hell. lol

I don't like Cordelia, and find her place on Angel and her development on Angel to be contrived. I prefer the writers to not have the Xander/Willow hook up, and just have Cordelia have a development with Xander. She and Xander were starting to improve each other, and I was following that, but no, they just had to chuck that out of the window.

By logic, I mean it was bad writing with Cangel. It's like the writers forgot what they've wrote in the past.

I agree about Spike.

Why didn't you like my post? It sounds like a post you would like? I'm curious.

You don't like Cordelia like I do. We sound like we can get along well with that. 🙂

Please don't pressure other members to like posts. There are plenty of reasons why someone may press like, or don't, on a post. They don't have to defend their likes, or lack thereof, to anyone else.

I was just curious and perplexed. I wasn't trying to pressure anyone. Just asking.

I understand that, but you're putting DayDreamer27 in an awkward position having to explain something to you that doesn't really need explaining. Agreeing with someone doesn't mean they have to press that like button, nor that they should be obligated to. Just as not getting a like isn't personal.

Okay.

Have a nice day. 🙂

I would say that the only ship that feels like an substantive insult to Bangel is Spuffy, and that's not even because of Spuffy in S6-7, but because of how the writers portray Angel and Spike in that last season.
They are treated as if their is parity in their relationships with Buffy. Spike is given that kind of acknowledgement by the writers in 'Destiny', 'Soul Purpose' and 'The Girl In Question' and as a result Angel comes off looking petty.
And in one of the last episodes we're left with Andrew saying 'she loves you both'. Nope, just nope. No-one can convince me that these two relationships have similar emotional investment when it comes to Buffy herself.
In fact I just think its Andrew's delusional view or reality; we all know he's 'team Spike' all the way. Which makes sense in a way, this is the guy who pretty much worshipped Warren after all; the attempted rapist/murderer...

Yeah I definitely feel like that was Andrew’s skewed POV.
We have a thread somewhere where posters are invited to write the next two sentences of a story and then let the next person write the next two and so on. It seemed very much like how Cangel was written. It seemed like the writers were saying, "OK, we have a male lead, let's give him a love interest, any love interest, just somebody without a Y chromosome and we'll figure it out as we go along."

Cangel was a mistake.

I'd say its an insult to Sprusilla as well, particularly when they tried to retcon the Lovers Walk break up as being all about Spuffy when it wasn't about that at all. Most of all I hate what Spuffy did to Spike's character, the whole "getting a soul for Buffy" comes with very problematic connotations.

Spuffy reminds of an irritating attention seeking child, it always has to be the centre of attention, and if it isn't, then it will try and make itself so.

Cangel was just wrong on so many fronts, it doesn't make sense for either Angel or Cordelia to be in that relationship. It says a lot when the audience has to be repeatedly TOLD that these two characters are supposed to be together. With Bangel, it was the opposite. The audience were SHOWN that they were meant to be together whilst the other characters were telling them they should break up.

As for Buffy's reaction to Cangel, she'd be upset and disappointed (because of the illogic of it- Angel left her because of his curse yet he's dating Cordelia despite the curse still being there), however she wouldn't commit suicide. As she said to Dawn at the end of Him, "No guy is worth your life! Not ever!"

Dangel works so well in conjunction with Bangel because they are essentially the devil and angel on Angel's shoulders respectively. Darla wants to lure Angel back into his bad ways whilst Buffy want to draw Angel in to the good that he can achieve.

Agree with all of this. Also, even if Buffy WAS suicidal (which I don’t think) I doubt she’d have done it, knowing Willow might just keep bringing her back.

I disagree with this because of Buffy's mental state in Season 6. People can be suicidal you know.

@Ceadsearc03 Willow would NOT be able to bring her back because IT WAS NOT a mystical death. Suicide isn't a mystical death, and that's the truth. Willow couldn't bring Tara back from the dead because she died of natural causes.

Of course people can be suicidal and no one is arguing that Buffy didn't have depression or that her state of mind wasn't messed up in Season 6. But it's not within Buffy's character to become suicidal over a guy, much less someone who wasn't an active part of her life at that point. If she was strong enough to kill Angel and still keep going she would be strong enough to deal with the revelation that he was falling for someone else.
