lmao! that's the funniest thing I've heard today. omg thanks for that article Jo. I needed a laugh today.

But I might as well put my opinion in this thread. I personally dont like her at all. I forced myself to watch some kind of concert she had that was on tv just to give her another shot to see if I liked her. And at the end of her last song she starts jumping around and slams the mic stand on the ground and walks off stage. lmao! That gave me a good laugh. And I think the best way to put it is "Man! She's so hardcore! I need to slam a mic stand down too so I can punk!"

hahahhahah i couldnt have said that better myself..she honestly pisses me off she is so fake and she tries wayyyy too hard to be punk its pathetic...i watched her accept her award at the VMAs..and well....she has the IQ of a rock...you can tell she dropped out of high school...

Yup,I may be a fan of her music but I totally agree with both of you,Like you said Kim,She tries way too hard,and consistently defies herself as punk,which a majority of her songs aren`t!

But like I said,I`m a fan as well,and my favourite song on her current album is most likely Anything But Ordinary,Things I`ll Never Say,and Losing Grip,A month ago from now,I would have Complicated on that list,but let`s all face the facts,that song is waaay over played...

i know what you mean because the rest of that song says something like
I'm waking up to say i tried instead of waking up to another tv guide.
which means she wants that life. But he didn't show that part so people who don't listen to her music wouldn't know.

BTW i don't think shes punk either - she just wears ties. But i like her music and i like it cos its Michelle Branch-ish but with i little tiwist on it i still like MB better did you see her win the Viewers choice award! yea!
 
what Avril needs is to cut the crapy "badass" image and be real. that fasade of beign a punk gilr is pasé. i like some her songs, i'm not going to front, but her i cant stand.
 
dude dont get me wrong her music is not bad i just dont like her...shes fake, she lies, and shes retarded....just listen to her speak..my mentally retarded dog is smarter than her...
 
Avril is just the extreme of when a label tries to turn an artist into something they're not.

She writes a song about an ex being a poser...then her label gets a director who when shooting the video, displays the completely wrong message simply to make Avril look cool.

Seriously people, if you want to have a go at her current image, have a go at her record label, not her.

I actually think its quite funny that a 17 year old girl can spark of such extreme reactions.

I have nothing against her, My sister has the album and I do like a few of the songs on it but the song 'Unwanted' just comes off as a bit too whiny for me. I don't think she's fake really, i think the record company is fake. They are just trying to hone in on the 'pop-punk' music that has become mainstream over the past wee while and try and make as much money out of it as possible. I think she actually is who she makes out, she attempts to skate, she never said she was great.She makes music and just wants to be accepted as an artist, most people though see her as a poser who is just trying to be so hardcore when really I think sum41, blink 182 deserve that crown as they changed their music for mainstream(more poppy sound and catchy melodies). Avril can't be called a sellout as she has just made her debut and never was truely 'punk rock' to begin with. Shes not the most influencal artist ever but saying that, music doesn't have to be deep or meaningful all the time. So what if it isn't lyricially outstanding? Music is there to spark off some time of reaction and maybe in her case its just to sing along with the track, forget everything for the three minutes of the track and just chill. Okay i have offically gone mental. Sorry for the rant, just had to add in my sparked off reaction🙄
 
I do like her music and have got the album, theres something a little different to it. (Even though it isn't the sort of music i usually listen to at all). I don't really care what she claims to be or what she is, i think her music is good to listen to. I do get what they are sayin bout the "cashin in". One thing that did annoy me at the vmas was that she was wearing the same sort of outfit from her video, was that to make a statement? Personally I'd rather have worn a really classy outfit to an awards show. I think that everybody is trying to get in on the whole punk rock thing at the moment, I'm sticking to what I love Rhythm + blues 😉
 
To be honest I agree about the writer, hes been a bit harsh. Accusing her of not writin her own songs then ripping the fact that some of her lyrics are a bit trivial. Who cares how "deep" the lyrics are, her musics good and it suits her. At least she isn't writing about how crappy her celebrity life is and whining on about suicide like loads of musicians at the moment. Shes 17 and seems quite happy with her music, people enjoy it so who cares. No other singers get ripped that much for doing what she does and why is it considered your not talented unless you play an instrument? Singing IS a talent in itself! Yeh her musics quite poppy, so what! lol. I feel sorry for the poor girl criticised so much.
 
I just got her album and thimk it is excellent. She's only 17, and has written or co-written all the songs on the album which i think shows talent. From interviews and stuff Avril comes off as a genuinely nice person, so I think that everyone should give her a break.

I can't believe some of you people! Her music talks about real life, how people really are. She doesn't sing about things that people can't relate to or have only heard about, she sings about things we deal with in our everyday lives! She's not snobby or stuck-up or conceited, she's nice. She has her own talent and she doesn't ride to fame on the backs of others. She carries her own. I think anybody that doesn't like her music must be extremely uncomfortable with theirselves or their lives. She has her own style of music. You don't have to label music. If you like it listen to it. Personally I usually listen to country and light rock and just a little bit of punk rock, but her style is different, and I think just a little of them all put together. She deserves respect. She and Michelle Branch and Sarah McLachlan are true artists.
