If we're stuck working within the confines of the American political binary, I'd actually argue that Obama is pretty much as bipartisan as we're going to get. Perhaps he was more left-leaning when he initially ran, but since his inauguration he's undoubtedly shifted to the right and taken a more moderate stance, despite the far right's consistent claim that he's a radical - just look at his stances on tax cuts, charter schools, nuclear weapons in Iran, etc. The only problem is that if you take a centrist stance you often wind up leaving everyone feeling disappointed, which I believe is the case with Obama.

I totally agree. The guy is moderate as heck. Only problem with his insistence on bipartisanship is that honestly, sometimes (IMO) it translates into excessive deference to the right.

I was with you up until the last part - I don't see how any politician can please everyone, especially not in a country with partisan lines as divisive as those in the United States.

Wow. No offence to anyone, but I'd say it's people like this guy who are the reason Americans are often stereotyped as being stupid. Again, no offence. I know there's lots of smart people in America, too.

Yes. It's all a matter of personal opinion to what's the right or wrong direction. It can also be more/less right/wrong. Going in the right direction doesn't have to mean going straight to/at the ultimate goal. But it's definitely not moving away from it.
