Just seen these lists last night. What do you think?
I for one would have Lisbeth Salander at #1 on the movie list. I'd definitely have Buffy higher too.
Also no spot for Anne Bonny (Black Sails)?

or The Widow (Into The Badlands)?

Or even Starbucks (BSG)?

If you were to make a list of coolest, baddest, or most kickiest fictional female characters, who would they be and why? 🙂

Did a search and didn't see a similar thread. If I somehow missed please fix. 😳

Anne Bonny should 100% be on that list

Plus, you know, much of the Whedonverse.

Fine, fine, I'll make like an actual list. Not in any particular order, though, because I'm feeling extra lazy.

man I love Dany
I could have had Sarah Connor from Terminator 2 at the top but I approve on Ellen Ripley as number 1.

On the TV list I missed Zoe from Firefly.

/SK

My top 10 for TV show would be (off the top of my head, with a one per franchise rule, since many of those shows actually have more than 1 deserving woman)

10. Sun Bak - Sense8
9. Brienne of Tarth - Game of Thrones (although Sansa is really climbing up there for badass female character, and Cersei is also close in the race)
8. Jeanne Biron - Unite 9
7. Eleven - Stranger Things
6. Katara - Avatar the Last Airbender (okay kinda cheating with the one per franchise with this one)
5. Buffy
4. Sarah Manning - Orphan Black
3. Bea Smith - Wentworth
2. Anne Bonny - Black Sails
1. Korra - The Legend of Korra

I don't watch enough movies to have a real list, but Furiosa (Mad Max) and Lisbeth (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) would definitely be on there.

agree Sansa's really coming into her own!
Athena

Yes to Eleven!
I have a wall of fame in my house dedicated to bad-ass females. It contains three characters - Kara 'Starbuck' Thrace, Leia Organa & Ellen Ripley (no Buffy, the artist didn't do her!). Where was Leia in their list? She may not have been a skilled fighter, but she was the leader of the rebellion, and she became a General.

I'd happily add Sarah Connor, Peggy Carter, Dana Scully, Black Widow, as well as Buffy to my wall of fame 😉

Rita Vrataski was amazing too though, and I always had a soft spot for Hit-Girl.

I always wonder how they make these lists up; is it just one person's opinion or the opinion of a team of people? Some of the suggestions are a little left-field for me.

Leia should definitely be on there!
Priceless

Definitely Scully, total badass
Fuffy Baith

Peggy Carter!
I'm just gonna do TV shows (in no particular order)
1. Aeryn Sun (Farscape)
2. Faith Lehane (AtS)
3. Peggy Carter (Agent Carter)
4. Jessica Jones (Jessica Jones)
5. Zoe Washburn (Firefly; I just like her a lot more than River the insane ninja-waif)
6. Buffy Summers (BtVS)
7. Echo (Dollhouse S2 really)
8. Fiona Glenann (Burn Notice)
9. Sarah Walker (Chuck)
10. Brienne Of Tarth (GoT, I like that she's honorable even when she clearly gets frustrated and disillusioned by the fact that nobody else really is. She's principled, which is badass)

Anyanka Bunny Slayer

Aeryn Sun and Faith! Hell yeah!
Kima Greggs
Ellie Miller
Debra Morgan
Peggy Olson
Carrie Mathison

I forgot to add Carrie Hopewell (Banshee), Lilah Morgan (Ats), Diane Lockhart (The Good Wife and The Good Fight), Olivia Dunham (Fringe), Emily Bishop (Gilmore Girls), Lucille Bluth (Arrested Development). Obviously, I'm thinking badass in the non-literal sense.

D'oh! Of course Carrie Hopewell. She's great. :)
OK, here's my totally hodgepodge list:

Lisbeth Salander - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Anne Bonny - Black Sails
The Widow - Into the Badlands
Jen Yu/Yu Shu Lien - Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Elizabeth Jennings - The Americans
Black Widow - Marvel movies
Buffy Summers - Buffy the Vampire Slayer
The Bride - Kill Bills
Elle (11) - Stranger Things
Selene - Underworld series
Starbucks (Kara Thrace) - Battlestar Galactica
Brienne/Daenerys - Game of Thrones
Sydney Bristow - Alias

To these I would add:

Sydney Fox - Relic Hunter
Xena - Xena Warrior Princess
River Tam - Firefly
Lori Petty - Tank Girl
Lara Croft - Tomb Raider
Ripley - Aliens
Veronica - Final Girl
Ronica Miles - Agent Cody Banks
Lucy - Lucy
Lt.Carmen Ibanez - Starship Troopers
Helen Tasker - True Lies (who plays Eliza Dushku's mother)

I'll have to go with Zoe over River myself (Firefly) as she's tough as nails AND sane, and unlike River she doesn't hide from pain.

I'll agree with Katniss (Hunger Games) as the only reason she volunteered was to save her sister (had she actually been chosen randomly then I think she'd have just escaped to the forest figuring the only death matches she was willing to have would be against the cops), and she just will not give up. She's not just fighting to survive, she's fighting for the people she loves, and stays resilient. When she threatened to eat the poisoned berries, I think she'd have actually gone through with it (can't say the same for Peeta).

I'll also agree with Black Widow, Buffy, Mystique, Ripley (Alien), Sarah Connor (Terminator), and Dana Scully (who doesn't have the vibe, but is bad ass mentally and physically when she has to be) for the reasons given in one vid or the other.

And because I want to throw someone new in I'll add Yu Shu Lien (played by Michelle Yeoh) and Jen Yu from Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. I loved both of those tough and determined characters. Oops, I see someone else already has above. Hmmm...Lady Eboshi then. (And I loved her line, "Watch closely, everyone. I'm going to show you how to kill a god. A god of life and death. The trick is not to fear him.")

And honorable mention to Hit Girl, but I only liked the first movie because it didn't take itself seriously, and neither did I. It's amazing how hilarious it is to see her massacre thugs and mobsters, though, and I don't think I've ever seen her shot by her dad (as she wears some armor) once without laughing.

I've only seen season 1 of The Walking Dead, and I still have not seen Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (which more than one person keeps trying to get me to see and probably will one day). The 2 women listed in the vid sound like they'd have made the list if I had. And for what it's worth, I like the tricky, clever, and skillful (like say Fred in Angel) as well as the bad asses.

Now if Donald Trump was a woman he'd be second of my list.
The first one is Saya, the last vampire.

Badass is usually 90% of characters that only physically kick ass. As Ripley proves (and I approve of her being #1), sometimes all you need is intelligence and determination. Much like Dana Scully is kick ass because of her intelligence. Wish women like those would be on these lists more. Kicking ass doesn't need to be literally taken.
