Bangel Continued

I mean who else would cry for 25 mins because they made her do the break up scene in Innocence after the love-making scene?(I think...) Amazing!!! Whenever she cries I wanna cry too.

So would like for us to choose the most heartbreaking moment of Bangel? just to begin a discussion!

Well the dramatic ones obviously like Becoming II and IWRY but for me I think it's probably the end of Graduation Day.

It's not because he's leaving but the way he does it. And it's not because I wanted him to go to her or for her to run after him, I find it heartbreaking because the only way he would have possible chosen to walk away like that is because he knew it wasn't goodbye and that would always find their way back to each other. And that's why Buffy stands and watched him retreat because she feels the same thing.

I prefer subtlety over melodrama so its the quieter things I tend to find more appealing.

I think that is why Angel tells Buffy he is not going to say goodbye when he leaves and that he will just go.

^ you're right...I think they can talk to each other quietly with just one look! They communicate...In the end of AtS season 2, when Willow comes...the one thing I kept from the episode is "it;s Buffy"...that is also one of the most heartbreaking bangel moments.
Just by hearing this phrase, it makes me wanna cry. And Alyson is always great in dramatic moments.

The truth is, there are a lot of heartbreaking Bangel moments, especially now when I'm rewatching it for like 10th time, because I know what's gonna happen.

I think it all begins with Becoming. That was just a bombastic episode. The end, of course. Because she was saying before how she's ready to kill him, but she wasn't. She tried to convince herself that she's able to kill him. But when he came back, the real Angel, and when he said he loves her, all the feelings came back, and it hurted so much. Killing him meant that he's going to leave. And that's something she couldn't handle, because she was the one who made him go away.

Then her dreams after killing him. All people who knew about it saw her as a hero, who saved the world. But not her, because he was her world. And she made her world go away. And she felt guilty about it.

The next one was The Prom. When she asked "Heart? You have a heart? It's not even beating" just blew me out of track. I freezed for a moment. Angel realizing he's not the best thing for her made my world fall apart. They were my picture perfect, reflection of true love, and them not being together, just made everything go away.

Graduation Day. That distance made me cry. That look. The first time I saw Buffy defeated. She was always winning, and this time she lost. She was just standing there, like there is nothing she can do.

IWRY. It's just sad. There is no special interpretation of it, it's just sad. They got perfection, and then gave it all up. It just shows how reality is cruel, because there are other people we have to think of. We're not alone in the world, and our happines is not the only thing that matters. We can't be selfish.

Forever. Only because it's kinda of ironic, because of the title.

Chosen. Because it's the end. In one minute Joss gave me hope, but then, like usual, it just stayed at that. Buffy went to Spike. Angel went home. And no one won. They just survived.

In Angel after Angel stakes Darla. After they exchange one look Angel just walks away. The look on Buffy's face says it all.

The look on Angel's face when he knows he has hurt Buffy.

The look on Buffy's face in Enemies when Angel pretending to be bad is kissing Faith. Not a big Faith fan.

The look on Angel's face when he sees Buffy lying face down in the pool of water in Prophecy Girl and when he finds out that she is not breathing. It is heartbreaking for me that Angel at that moment can't revive Buffy with mouth to mouth because he has no breath to do it and has to let Xander do it instead.

The look on Angel's face after Buffy tells him to tell her he doesn't love her and that is the only way they can still see each other.

The whole Angel walking away thing even before Graduation Day because Angel was always walking away from Buffy.

The look on Buffy's face when she sees the arrow shot by Faith going into Angel in Graduation Day Part 1.

The love theme Close Your Eyes is just plain heartbreaking especially at the crescendo because it reminds you of when Buffy plunged the sword into Angel.

Their fight in Graduation Day pt1...just before Faith shoots him. She says he doesn't get her and he throws that box in her legs with that lokk in his face...I felt so sorry for both of them. They do love each other and yet they are harsh. Until the arrow...then all feelings come back immediately. The way he falls in her arms!

ooh, ooh that moment...
The heartbreaking Bangel moments start long before Becoming. Surely you have to look at "Innocence". That is when the heartbreaking starts. Of course Becoming follows it but the pain starts in "Innocence". That episode sees Buffy go through unbearable pain. The scene where Angel is horrid to her, the scene where she cries sitting with Willow, which had the legendary line "I feel like i can't breath". By the way i have to say how amazing SMG was during that scene and the whole episode in general.

"Innocence" isn't as emotional as "becoming" but i think it runs it really close. No one should forgot how pivotal the episode was. It showed how evil Angelius could be, ripped Buffy apart, no question it started the whole Bangel angst.

"I want my life to be with you"
"I don't"

I understand why Angel says those things but just hearing this phrase from him makes me wanna cry! Oh "The Prom" rules!!! One of the best episodes of Buffy IMO!

me too honey...and that look in his face!

"I don't"

I love The Prom so much, especially the ending, but whenever I think about it, I remember that scene. I remember their words, that were said in the moment of anger, but were totally heartbreaking.

Logically I could also mention Sanctuary as one of the heartbreaking moments...but I wasn't as sad as I was mad. Mostly at Buffy...cause she didn't even hear what Angel had to say. Also accusing of Angel being with Faith is lame! And she punched him first!

Yep, Sanctuary was not a heartbreaking moment for me. I mean, I see most of the fans are mad at Buffy, but I'm not mad at either one of them. I just can understand expression on her face when he hits her. That's just about their relathionship, she was always the stronger one. Something more. She has been always saving him from something or someone - Spike and Dru, bad words of her friends, but the thing she didn't knew is that Angel grew up. In that small time he learned how to live without her. And that speach he gives her in that episode is probably one of my favourite Angel quotes.

yeah...she says that she found someone new in the end but I love the way HE answers!!! he stands his ground!
Sanctuary wasn't heartbreaking for me either. The best moment in Sanctuary came in the fallout to seeing Buffy's face when she saw Angel hugging Faith. It is one of those scenes which you can just turn on and appreciate.

"Why would she when she has a White Knight to protect her" "You hit me". Both of those lines are impeccably delivered by Sarah. David holds his own aswell as Angel appears sympathetic but is also strong enough to not be overun by Buffy's jealousy. It is totally different to IWRY in that sense because it isn't enjoyable because of the love they share for each other, it is just a really dramatic scene really well delievered by two actors who were performing so well in fronting their specific shows. The scene is different to the ones i mention below because it isn't all about sheer love.

"I want my life to be with you" "I don't" that's a tearjerker moment, very similar to "You still my girl" "Always". Of course you can add the scene in Amends in with those 2 scenes aswell. The line "What about me" when Buffy tells Angel she isn't ready to let him go. All of those scenes make you feel something inside, for me the sanctuary scene is just fascinating to watch, it doesn't pull the heart strings.

Good way to interrupt the fight. I say. And Buffy says Angel in that way she always does when something happens to him. Aww sweet.

Bangel certainly contributed most of the heartbreak in the first seasons of BtVS, but how about the moments that made you smile? One of my favorites is from What's My Line, where she's kissing him in vamp face and she says "I didn't even notice."

How can it be that no-one mentions the beautiful scene in When She Was Bad when Buffy cries in Angel's arms?
And when Angel leaves, ofcourse. That always gets me.
It's hard to pick just one moment.

It just so happens I am watching "When She Was Bad" at the present moment.
The part in Buffy's room in WMLP1 when Angel turns around after Buffy startles him and he is clutching Mr. Gordo Buffy's stuffed pig.

How about their first face to face meeting.
Buffy:"Well maybe I don't want a friend."
Angel: "I didn't say I was yours."
