Bangel Continued

Angel left to start his own life. To find a meaning. Redemption. And to grow up. And to allow Buffy to grow up.
He didn't knew he'll start a relathionship with Cordy. Life doesn't tell us what's going to happen if we make this or that move. He had a right to fall in love with anyone with who he wanted, he didn't intend to fall on her, that's the beauty of love. Just look at Buffy, she fell in love with one of her enemies. We don't know with who are we going to fell in love with.
Angel and Buffy are still kids who are trying to change the world. Make it a better place. And they won't be happy until they succeed. But I don't think the evil is going to truly go away forever. They just have to see beyond that. And they have to risk a lot of things if they want to be together.

I agree with crazysoulless.

PB, you're right in saying we don't choose who we fall in love with, but by the end of Angel Season 3, both Angel and Cordelia were ready to start a relationship together. They were planning on meeting and I think it's obvious what would have happened.

Not once (that I can remember; on an Angel rewatch and haven't gotten up to this yet) did we see Angel struggle with his feelings or think about the reasons why starting another relationship is a bad idea. There isn't a difference, as crazysoulless pointed out, to why he would be able to start a relationship with her and not Buffy.

I also thought Cordy's reaction to realizing she was in love with Angel wasn't very Cordy-esque. All throughout her time in L.A, she had made it clear she saw what happened between Buffy and Angel, she knew what Angelus could do, yet she just accepts the fact she's now in love with him and wants to be with him, despite all of that.

Not to mention the entire season, we just had Fred, Lorne, and then Groo running around saying Angel and Cordelia were in love. It would have been way more realistic and believeable had they shown just Angel and Cordelia finding out they loved each other on their own and then struggling with their feelings up until Tomorrow.

It all is just very rushed and really just doesn't make much sense to me.

That's why I believe cangel was forced...cause everyone around them claimed that they had feelings for each other...and so long the viewers could not see that.

It was incredibly contrived. Even if you don't like Spuffy at least that was organic and realistic with their emotions and actions. And the writers never tried to force the other characters or the fans to think a certain thing.
I still don't understand you guys.. Angel didn't had a right to move on with someone else, but Buffy did?
She had a right to sleep with Parker a to ruin something that was at one point to precious to her just because she didn't liked how her past turned out to be? She had a right to fall at Riley and go to L.A and tell that to Angel just because she was mad because he decided Faith needs help? And she had a right to sleep with Spike and to fall in love with him? Probably she did, it's her life. We can't fight our feelings, but she never thought she can't do that because she still loves Angel. She was only affraid that people are going to hurt her again. She was right. People are going to hurt us all our life, we just have to decide who is worthy to hurt us. Buffy never ever had a thought about Angel, because she knew she loves him, but he's not around. So she moved on. She moved on with that feeling, but she needed someone. So did Angel. Yes, he partly left for Buffy, but he left for himself too. When he left Sunnydale, he didn't knew Cordy is going to move there to. She did. They became friends. They fell in love. Probably, I don't want to argue with that, I'm not Cangel fan and I don't belive in it, but the fact is he cared about her. They needed to proove they're right for eachother. And they can't do that just sitting in the corner and waiting for time to pass.

I think it doesn't make any sense for Angel to move on. He left Buffy for reasons that had nothing to do with not being in love with her. Why do the reasons he left Buffy not apply to Cordelia? If he thought he could be with Cordelia than why was it so important to "move on" from Buffy? Wouldn't that just put him in the same situation? Being with someone that he can't sleep with, that is human and will age and die, that is a young woman with her whole life ahead of her while he is old enough to her ancestor, etc.

Angel leaving Buffy and then starting a romantic relationship with someone else in my opinion defeats the entire reason he left Buffy.

Buffy did not really try to move on with Scott. It was a "fake" relationship. It was a chaste, passionless front. He was really gay and she was tired of everyone thinking she had to "find the fun" and was also trying to convince herself that she could keep a distance from Angel. Scott was right when he said that the fire in her had died and she wasn't "full of life" anymore. It was because she still was in mourning. Pete referred to Buffy as "Manic-depressive Girl."

I wanted to give you repuation point but TPTB wouldn't let me so I am quoting you to say that I agree with your post.

I think the writers wanted a love interest for Angel and chose Cordelia because she was an established character on the show and so the writers wouldn't have to create a new female character for Angel to "fall in love" with. I put that in quotes because I didn't really believe Angel loved Cordelia and I saw no chemistry between them. But that is just me.

Didn't we find out later from Jasmine that Angel and Cordelia were under a spell and so was everyone one else?

Actually the reason they had Angel fall in love with Cordy is because she was supposed to be the Big Bad instead of Jasmine. They wanted the emotional factor to make it harder for him to have to kill (or stop) her. But Charisma got pregnant; and they did the Jasmine storyline instead. Or so I've heard. I'm not sure if there's any truth to it.

I've heard about that as well. The writers admitted that is the reason for C/A. Cordy was going to be the Big Bad of S4 and Angel was going to kill her but since CC got preggers, she instead slept with Connor, birthed Jasmine, and Connor killed Jas.

yeah you are right...but the pregnancy changed the plot
It would have been interesting to see Cordy evil minus the jucky Connor thing. They would probably have played the new "demony parts" angle. that'd've been cool.

Although I think it would have been plenty hard for Angel to kill Cordy even without being "in loove" with her. I mean she was pretty much his best friend of friends

Even further than that, the reason C/A was initiated at all is because the network put pressure on Joss for Angel to have a love interest. The employed the same tactic with bringing Spike over to Angel in S5. If they hadn't, the show was going to be cancelled.

I didn't know about that one! Stupid networks!!! Though I did love Spangel in S5.

Thanks Kean for elaborating on what I said a few posts back.

Yes Angel cared for Cordeilia but Angel cares for everyone. We saw the same caring with Fred.

By the same token Fred could have been Angel's love interest as well. She was just as much a friend as Cordelia was, and Fred was protective of Angel as well. Not that I didn't like Funn.

If you compare the chemistry of Bangel and to Cangel well in my mind its a no contest. I'am not saying Charisma and David didn't work really well together because they did, but to me it just came across as a good friendship.

With Sarah and David so many scenes were so intense and filled with angst that it was obvious how strong the feelings were between them. When the characters tried to be friends it didn't work showing they belonged together as lovers, whereas Cangel could always operate as just a really strong friendship.

Trying to get back to Bangel in Bangel club. We never got to see Buffy and Angel ice skating together. That would have been fun and romantic as well.

I would like to have seen them dancing together at the Bronze. We only got to see that in the weird dream Buffy had after she sent Angel to He**. What other things would you liked to have seen Buffy and Angel do in the same category as Ice Skating together.

I wanted Giles to take Buffy to that Ice Show she wanted to go too but it would have been good too if Angel took her, she really wanted to go after all :smile3:

That would have been neat to see and too bad Buffy didn't think about that. It would have been a date and a good way to spend Buffy's birthday together. I wanted to add that not just in the ice skating category either.

True, but Fred already had her hands full with the Gunn and Wes. Angel would have been overkill.

I always wanted to know what happened after the show fades out in Amends. Where did they go? What did they do?

Also, I would have loved to have seen more of their bickering and teasing of each other that we saw pre-Surprise. I understand why it didn't happen after, everything was so emotionally wrought and tense, but I missed how playful they could be together.

I loved in IWRY how Angel tried to start up the playful teasing with the axe v stake comment. But she was too hurt thinking about the last time they were in the sewers together.
Another potentially interesting Bangel moment would have been Angel going around to Joyce's for dinner with Buffy :biggrin3:

A trip to the Cinema would have been nice to see aswell.

Angel having dinner with Buffy and Joyce would have been such a great episode. Oh my Goddess, that would have been some conversation.
I miss the bickering, teasing, flirting pre-surprise. Nobody did it better than Buffy and Angel. I thought it was funny whenever Buffy brought up Angel being a vampire. That always got him.

It did. And they made it funny. Like in WML Pt.1 when Angel said he's never gonna be a normal kid, and Buffy didn't minded that, she turned that into something funny 🙂

And everybody was always making jokes over the fact that Angel was not breathing.
My mom was looking through her jewelry today and showing me stuff; she had a Claddagh Ring! 😛 I begged her to let me have and she did 😀 I was, like, so happy when I saw it, lol.

I know it's more of an Irish thing, but the Bangel fangirl in me couldn't resist 😛

I really want one of those. Or two of them so I can exchange them with someone like Bangel did.
