Bangel vs. Spuffy

Oh god. Even when I was Spuffy I HATED the idea of Spike and Buffy ending up married, Spike human, happy together, kids, etc. Blahh! :biggrin3: Lol, seriously though, I REALLY don't like that idea. I've read some fanfiction like that (completely by accident) and although it's well written I totally can't stand it, Spuffy is not meant to be fluffy imo. 😀
xaphania agrees: Nah, Spuffy can be fluffy. Also, are you permanently Bangel now? :O

It can be, and I do enjoy sweet Spuffy like in Touched, but I dislike seeing non-fluffy characters turn fluffy. It's so IWRY, lol. I must be the only bangel out there that doesn't LOVE that episode... Sorry. 😀

As for your last statement, theirs is a forever love.

Honestly, spuffies, we respect your opinion, but it's obvious that Spike is at his best and most heroic right now with Illyria and Spider at his side. Not Buffy. So you guys are just gonna have to move on. :smile3:

On the other hand, Bangel had MAJOR foreshadowing, and a fantastic chance of working out. :biggrin3:

Yep. Fantastic chance. Too bad they let it slip through their fingers.

Spike/Illyria. He keep her sane. Or as sane as she can be.
Just popping in briefly to state the obvious; Bangel wins. End of story. As Lyri said, you can't mess with DESTINY. Duh.

You're all deluded, lol. Off to go to continue reading my Bangel fic.. *whistles as she walks away*

(9 days to go...)

You know what? Joan is a very good Bangel fan and knows the truth!!! So I guess we all follow her good example! :smile3:

Just remember that you said that when her month is over.

Obviously I'm referring to S8 here. 😀 And so, I'm slightly confused as to what you're talking about...?

See, here's my thoughts: I think that Angel and Buffy were meant to be, obviously. Of course, the problem with this thought is that they tried and tried and tried to make it work, but it never did. For a while there I thought that it was a sign, a sign signifying that Bangel just wasn't going to happen. But now I've realized...

Buffy's Cookie Analogy: She said that she wasn't ready for a relationship yet. So, imo, that's why Bangel, despite their efforts, never really got a happy ending. She wasn't ready yet, so they weren't supposed to. But now, I'd say that she's ready, so once Joss sorts this whole mess out, the inevitable is bound to happen. Afterall, this whole thing has ALWAYS been about Buffy and Angel. No matter what, their destinies are intertwined. 🙂

Of course I will remember. I am referring to her being BANGEL and supporting BANGEL. When her month is over, she is gonna be past redemption once more, but she deserves honour for trying to recognise the value of BANGEL even if it is for a month! 🙂

Bangel wins! End of story. They're epic.

Epic, sure. Interesting? Fresh dynamic? Development? Believable?

Erm... No. 😀

(Or at least they don't have any of that in MY opinion. :biggrin3: )

LOL! They're my OT3. What's hotter than a Buffy sandwich?

Lol, well, Angel/Spike/Buffy threesomes SEEM hot in theory, but I must admit, I generally find them to be pretty icky... People sandwiches= Gross gross gross imo. :biggrin3:

I always thought it was pretty easy to see what they (buffy&angel that is) saw in each other, so them getting together seemed perfectly believable. Buffy in S7 seemed to believe in Spike without him really giving her a good reason to, especially considering he tried to rape her not a few months previous.

Bangel was love at first sight. Buffy claimed to be "In love" with Angel after having three short conversations with them, not to mention she was already "In love" with him before she knew that he was a vampire, or rather knew ANYTHING about him. Even in S2 Buffy admitted that she knew nothing about Angel. Angel claimed to be in love with Buffy from the first moment that he very creepily watched her from his car, back when she was still an obnoxious airhead.

What Buffy saw was a tall, dark, and mysterious stranger. Angel saw a cute yet powerful young girl. I can understand why Buffy would be drawn to Angel (Angel -> Buffy is still pretty creepy in my eyes), but love? I see it as infatuation since they knew nothing about each other. I don't find love at first sight to ever be believable.

What is it that you thought they saw in each other?

As for S7 Spuffy, she had every reason to believe in him. Spike loved Buffy unconditionally for many years, and was willing to do most anything for her. He even died for her. On extension, Buffy still had feelings for Spike, which led her to keep giving him chances. As for the AR, that was a bad year for both of them. They both made mistakes. But you have to learn to forgive and move on. Past is past, and done is done. 🙂

As far as this debate goes i can't see it ever being settled. I've said it before and i'll say it again both ships are great for different reasons.

Bangel is and forever will be all about passion. Their love for one another was almost instant and even after years apart they struggle to fight their attraction.

Spuffy is about love growing over time and a friendship potentially turning into something more. Buffy obviously had feelings for Spike, she loved him yet if we are talking about pure emotion and attraction then i think Bangel comes out on top.

However some people prefer the love that grows over time and think Spike is better suited to Buffy and could make her more happy which is a valid point. Everyone has their own opinion, mine changes regularly.

Interesting. I've always found SPUFFY to be the passion 'ship, where as Bangel was the romantic first love.

Spuffy was always the more passionate 'ship for many reasons. They had moments like in Tabula Rasa or Smashed when it was pure and straight passion. And, of course, the epic hand holding scene in Chosen when their hands were on fire, which, of course, signified the flame of passion between them and Spike giving Buffy her passion and fire back. 🙂

Bangel was love at first sight. Most of it was slow and sweet, after all, Buffy was a bit young for the crazy passion. 😉 They had their passionate moments like in IWRY (Although, technically... Never happened. 😀 ), but passion never really seemed to be the more prominent characteristic.

In conclusion, Spuffy, as I've always said, is about realizing that the person who once meant nothing to you really means everything to you. 🙂

I don't think you have to know somebody or know their past to love them. You can fall in love with their mannerisms, their looks, or their smile. Buffy and Angel had a good bit of contact by the time she admits she loves him in the Angel episode.

Spike did love her, but he was still prepared to do things like chaining her up or letting Drusilla kill her. His egg scheme in AYW, the AR, he had proven again and again he was evil. When he got his soul back you couldn't really be sure that just because he got his soul back he'd suddenly be a model citizen. (TFEMayor says something like 'so what, you thought you'd get your soul back and everything would just be Jim Dandy?' TFE obviously thought Buffy would show more reservations when dealing with Spike rather than just blindly trusting him.) I suppose the act of getting his soul back might have moved Buffy so much that she started loving him (even if she didn't realize it) and that's why she so vehemently defended Spike for the rest of the season.

I think Bangel was more about passion then Spuffy. The scenes you mentioned in "Tabula Rasa" and "Smashed" wasn't passion in my eyes, it was more about lust and a desire just to feel close to someone, no matter who they were. Buffy didn't love Spike in season 6, Buffy just viewed their relationship as a way of escaping from her own life. She needed somebody and Spike was desperate for that someone to be him. Spike saw it differently, for him it was about passion.

Bangel was always about passion. In "I will remember you" they fight so hard not to give into temptation but they can't. Angel loses his soul because of the passion seen in their relationship. They couldn't fight the urge any longer to make love. That's passion. Their love was romantic and sweet but it was also very passionate. Spuffy doesn't have that passion until season 7.

I absolutely believe that you cannot love someone you don't know. You can lust after them, be infatuated or obsessed with them, interested in them. But you can't love someone you don't know. At 16, though, you can THINK you love someone you don't know (I remember that well from being a teenager).

Buffy did at least somewhat know Angel by the time she admitted she loved him.

Angel says something like "I loved you from the moment I saw you" (I think?) but personally I think that's just him being romantic. He was interested, yes, but once he got to know her then he knew he loved her.

You can THINK you love someone at 16 and you can also KNOW you love someone at 16. Hence why I'm with the person I fell in love with then at 21.

While I agree that you can't wholeheartedly love someone without knowing them, and why I take the love at first sight thing with Bangel with a pinch of salt, the fact she was young when she loved him does not make that love anything below the love someone older feels.

I think that what most people don't understand is that of course they didn't fall in love the moment they looked at each other. Angel beheld Buffy and to him she was innocence, a girl about to become a Slayer. She was his hope for redemtpion. He loved that hope. And then he loved the person.

Buffy was a teenager, yes and it was more than obvious that she got interested in him. Then she developed feelings. In "Angel" we can see that it's strong. In s2 they start realise how serious this is, and so on.

Agree what you say about Bangel not being instant but it didn't take long. Infact i'd say it took about 2 meetings for Buffy to realize just how strong her feelings were for Angel
