Bangels-- About Spike

I like the Spike character a lot, he's one of my favourites... except he got lame in Season Six when he had a series of affairs with Buffy and he was obsessed with her. He only got his soul back because of an obsession. Sorry, but that's my honest opinion and it hurt me in Angel Season Five when people thought he could be the subject of the Shanshu. Besides that, he was a very cool character (Not including any crap that IDW wrote after "Angel:After the fall Issue 17")

I only like Spike in Seasons 2 till 5 of BtVS and Season 5 of AtS.
Gotta agree with Kean & Elefteria. He lost a lot of his character in Season 6. I've been recently rewatching S5 of AtS and I can't even describe how much I LOVE Spike in it. I loved it, how quickly he recovered his old form (now ensouled version of BtVS S2); thanks to his [long required] independence from Buffy.

I agree about the independence bit.
Not a big Spike fan myself, he's very overrated.
I liked him in season 2 of Buffy but throughout the show he went from bad to silly.

I don't really care about shipping or any of that, I just personally hate Spike as a character. Hated him when he was bad, hate him when he's "good". I think despise is a better word actually. I don't like James Marsters himself much either. I find him to be the most overrated character in the whole Buffyverse (along with Xander but that's another story for another time).

True, but Angel had a whole show where he was allowed to be Angel. Just Angel, with no Buffy constantly attached and guiding his character. That helped a lot to separate him from her, and to make it possible for even people who hated Bangel to like Angel.

This is a very important point you bring up - I would never have liked the character had he not moved on from Sunnydale. For me, by the time he left, he had become, not boring, but his story with Buffy no longer kept my interest.

It funny how both characters changed for me; Angel as Angelus was totally more interesting than Angel. Spike post his Initiative Chip and falling in love with Buffy, is when the character becomes compelling. Spike in his only evil persona was a fun character as was Drusilla - but both were very narrow in range of interest. Drusilla never become a character that was interesting to me, where Spike with his transformations only become of greater and greater interest. Ultimately, Spike become the most compelling character of all in the entire Whedonverse.
